Default The polar bear 1.02

All right, this is the question everyone's asking - what's up with the polar bear? Does anyone have any theories?

I've got something in my head about how they found tropical plants in the Arctic once, so it could have something to do with shifting plates and all of that. If that's the case, there may actually be a "bear village" on the island as Sawyer said. I don't know... I'm confused.

i've read a lot of theories about it, but i'm not quite sure what i think yet. i've pretty much decided to give it a few more eps before i try to 'connect the dots' on anything... it's all still over my head. ;-)

couldn't it be 'albine', I'm not sure what is the word, the genetic problem, where the skin has no color?
or, are all polar bears albine?

I think you'd be able to tell if the bear was albino- the eyes would have been red, its paws wouldn't have had any color, et cetera. I don't think polar bears are albino, their fur's just white as a means of adaptation- they can blend in with the snow and hunt more effectively.

but it didnt show the bear, did it?
we just saw a part of it, and, as it was dead, his eyes could be closed...

Well you could see a bit of its eyes, and it's nose and mouth- I'm not 100% sure but I think that, if it was an albino, those would all be sort of pinkish in color. Either way, I still wanna know what a bear's doing on a tropical island

As of right now, the only solution I can think of is too fairy-tale like, which I hope this show won't turn out to be. I love the polar bear mystery. Maybe the weather on this island is not normal (remember the sudden storm?) and there are certain parts that are really cold.

I had a dream about the whole polar bear thing on the Tuesday night before the ep- and I swear, I heard nothing about it before! so I was kinda creeped by it all.

I read a theory (and this ties in with them hearing the French woman on the transiver) that the island once was a testing ground for them which why it a) might not be on any map and b) that the polar bear was an experiment gone wrong. Basically the polar bear is on the island for an experiment by the French and it went terribly, terribly wrong. I think this is definitely a great and plausible theory that I have to agree with. The only other thing I can think is supernatural.

One of the most intriguing theories that I've seen is here by gblvr on livejournal. I think especially when considering the issue of battery power. How could a message broadcast for over 16 years? What is the power source? Those questions are tied in with the question of the polar bear. Perhaps expanding the theory a bit to not only include bands of time, but to layer different principles (time, climate, etc). That's a pretty scifi theory, but it definitely gives a lot of food for thought!

Then again, the entire thing could be a sort of alternate universe, where polars that grow very very large are native to tropical islands. Of course, those theories would require extensive co-theories on how other pieces of the weirdness fit in.

I'm not too crazy about the government experiment theory. Conspiracy theories are so hard to work with. However, I do think that the theory with references to the artic is quite fascinating! I would love to hear more.

Lucy, I'm puzzled about the sudden storm, too. It only rained during that brief period, but I doubt it's connected to the bears (or whatever else is out there - maybe the polar bear is just a red herring to some other Big Bad) because the survivors saw the forest moving and heard It and the weather stayed perfectly normal. Ahh, still so many questions! I love it.

I actually love the conspiracy theory!! It's realistic, yet has the science fiction in it. I'm just not a big fan of this show going the way of fantasy.

Default Comic book & the bear

Another thing. If you recall the kid was reading a comic book earlier in episode 2. The first page they show him looking at is a big polar bear..........hmmmm (I still had the show taped and confirmed this.)
