Who was the first person to mention the word 'island'?

Really curious about this. Who (and when) was the first person to realise that they were on an island. I'm going to watch all the episodes again form the beginning to find the answer. But here is my BIG question....when sayid went away to map the island how far did he get before he met Danielle....cause surely he would have spotted thee other island if he had managed to map the one they were on.
