I have thought about the current Season and the obvious parallels to Stephen Kings "The Stand". In that Story some of the good guys where send as spies to the ranks of the evil ones.
As the Man in Black has offered Ben to join them and told him their Hideout, he could join them as kind of a double-agent! Given Bens past they would totally believe him and it would make up for a tense storyline! This could be a chance for Ben to eventually redeem himself...
