So now that sayid is 'dead', do you think that it is jacob who is 'infecting' him or the MIB (like smokey 'infected' locke's body)? Why would jacob want to save sayid, or know that sayid was the one to save ahead of time(because of the note in the guitar case)? so many questions...

I don't think neither Jacob nor the Smoke Monster infected Sayid. Let's assume they both can:

If it was Jacob who infected Sayid, surely the Others would know and would be able to notice the difference. They didn't.

The Smoke Monster, well, that's even least likely. I'd like to note that Locke is NOT infected! He's dead, last time we saw him, he was in that box! The Smoke Monster just took his apparence. If the Smoke Monster took Sayid apparence the same way, Sayid would still be a corpse.

I'm not saying that there is no link between the infections and Jacob or the Smoke Monster. There probably is. But they are not the same thing. Locke was never infected. Neither was Yemi, or Alex, for exemple. The Smoke Monster just take the apparance of dead people. Infection, however, I believe the individual is still alive. Maybe the infection is related to those two ''spiritual'' being, but not to the point that Jacob or the Smoke Monster ''take over'' the body.

Very good point about Locke's body not being taken over. However, I still think the Smoke Monster is the one "claiming" people, because of what happened to Rousseau's team. After being exposed to the monster, they all became "infected" and changed until she had to kill them all. It looks like this is what has happened to Sayid and Claire. So maybe SM has two modes of operation?

great point about the body, I hadn't thought of that. originally, I was thinking that the others answered to jacob, and he wanted sayid saved for some reason. (and now he's dead) The 'fountain of youth' isn't clear anymore it's dirty. do you think this is because he (jacob) died? is this why richard never ages?

Yeah, I don't think it's either of them either. Smokey wouldn't have been able to enter with the protection they had around the Temple.

At first, I thought Sayid would have been revived as Jacob. But now that he's "infected", it's not possible. His own people would not try and kill him.
