Was the paper inside the ankh a list of names of people Jacob does not want to die (or people that cannot die) for whatever reason? The ankh is the symbol for life, and all of losties present were asked to state their names. This leads me to believe that it was a list of some sort.

I think that was pretty obvious. he was asking names and looking at back and forth to the paper, not really much to discuss. It was to identify who's friendly.

The infamous Jacob's List? Although, the 'original' Jacob's list from Season 3 did not include Sawyer... and the promo for the next episode suggested that Sawyer is no less important than any other main character.

I wonder.

Honestly, I think that list was just one Ben made up himself. He only wanted Jack so he could perform surgery and Kate to manipulate him.

That's a good point, and probably true. That said... where did Ben get the idea that Jacob makes lists with peoples' names on them? Jacob must have done this in the past.

Actually, now that I think of it, weren't the goons that attacked the Tailies carrying lists, too? Presumably these lists named Cindy and Zack and Emma... were ALL of these lists fake, or were some real and others fake?

Hmm... what further muddles the issue is Richard's absence throughout the early portion of season 3. Did he know what Ben was up to?

I wonder was it really Jacob list in the Ankh, I remember that the paper looks like modern paper while Jacob communicate with papyrus ???

The ankh represents eternal life, which explains why it was at the temple inside the guitar case. However, it also has different meanings.

David P. Silverman notes the striking example of how the depiction of the Ancient Egyptian Ankh was preserved by the Copts in their representation of the Christian cross. To this day, the ankh is also used to represent the planet Venus (the namesake of which, the goddess Venus or Aphrodite, was chiefly worshipped on the island) and the metal Copper (the heavy mining of which gave Cyprus its name).
