View Full Version : Where was the big temple located?

I got the feeling that after they walked into the temple
(and avoided the pit where Ben fell down) and the 'other Others' grabbed them and took them to the big temple, that this was actually off-island. Did anyone else? It just seems weird that this giant pyramid and all the people around it have just been on the island the whole time and the pyramid was just hidden by trees or something.
Maybe when they were "grabbed" in the underground temple, they were transported to hundreds of years into the past? Thoughts?

i don't think they were transported in the past nor off island because Richard sees the flare that the people in the temple fire into the air

It's not just hidden by trees, it's surrounded by the wall.

And I guarantee it's still on the island because like the guy above me said, they shot the flare and Richard could see it. Also though, the Spring--whatever it is--is definitely something that would be on the island and not somewhere else.

How did we not notice a giant freaking wall with people living on the other side of it? That's all I'm saying, I guess.

You must have missed the episode where Ben actually stated the Temple is a half mile or so in past the walls.

I think the Temple area inside the walls is independent of the time stream.

I think it's strange that they are trying to protect themselves from the smoke monster while it has already been there before. Why didn't it attack them then?

I also think it's odd that the losties have been pretty much everywhere yet they never really saw the temple or the walls until last season.
I mean they walked/took the van from the hatch to the temple so how far could it be. Granted we have no idea how long it took but there wasn't any description.
Interesting.

Smokie was in the underground catacombs, which are part of a network which run under the entire island. It was never actually at or in the Temple itself, which is the above-ground pyramid/ziggurat structure some distance from the outer wall.

And didn't Ben actually say that the remaining "others" were at the Temple. I believe I remember Ben saying this when he was handcuffed and being transported by Jack & Co. to get rescued.

You must realize that, even if they changed the direction they were walking by just a few degrees, after a few miles they would be in a completely different place. It would take a VERY long time to explore every inch of the island.

Notice the Temple folk didn't make a circle of ash (wth?) around their sanctuary until after they learned that Jacob was killed? Smocke (Smokey + Locke) may have been bound to protect/ not harm anybody in the Temple as long as Jacob was alive.

this is exactly my thought. MIB wants to go home. His home is the temple. The temple never needed protecting from MIB while Jacob was a live to protect it. Now that Jacob is dead, MIB is headed home (the temple) and the others know that, hence them spreading the ash and preparing for an attack.

You must have missed the bit where I was replying to "its a big island".

Thanks though.

You must have missed the bit when the other guy missed the bit about missing the bit during the bit.
