I'm not sure where to put this:

Gettin’ horizontal with Maddie: 22 TV series not ruined when two characters hooked up

13. Lost (James “Sawyer” Ford & Juliet Burke)
Throughout its run, Lost has featured a few touching love stories (Desmond and Penny, Rose and Bernard, Jin and Sun), but until this past season, none of the good ones were of the will-they-or-they-won’t-they variety. If anything, the show’s major drawn-out love triangle—featuring perpetually distrustful castaways Jack, Kate, and Sawyer—has consistently been its weakest element, distracting from the more compelling mysteries on the island while providing head-scratching motivation for major plot points. The triangle became even more unwieldy when the show introduced Juliet, an island-dweller whose instant bond with Jack seemed shoehorned into the plot to make Kate jealous. What a pleasant surprise, then, when season five opened with Jack and Kate completely out of the picture, and Sawyer and Juliet left behind to develop a wary but more believable rapport. And what an even more pleasant surprise when the story skipped ahead in time (sort of… it’s complicated) to show Sawyer and Juliet living as a happy, functioning couple. Then Jack and Kate returned, tearing everything asunder. But for once on Lost, the romantic gamesmanship became something fans had a real personal stake in, not just something we suffered through in order to learn more about time-traveling bunnies.

I like Juliet because in my opinion she is the only good person among all the A-Team characters. Yes, she has killed a man, but it was in order to save Sawyer, because she knew Danny would kill him if she didn’t and she knew Sawyer was a better person than Danny. But Juliet was dragged into this whole mess and she has done what she can to survive and keep her family safe. Ben has threatened to kill Rachel before, if they can cure cancer, they can make cancer appear. Take Ben for example; do you actually think Jacob has nothing to do with Ben’s back tumor?

While the others, let’s see, Jack has pulled the trigger on Locke, he had accused his father of horrible things, he has stalked his ex-wife. Kate killed her father, yes, I get it, she was mad because she found out he was her father, hey I have a lousy father too, I won’t go to his house and blow him up. I simply pretend he doesn’t exist!

Sawyer killed a man, the same man twice! And as if he didn’t learn the first time he had to go and kill him again. I agree that Anthony was a horrible man, but it wasn’t his fault that Sawyer’s parents died, Mary was stupid to cheat on her husband, and his father shouldn’t have done what he did. And who is Sawyer to decide who gets to live or die?

Sayid, the guy has tortured people, and he said he would never do it again, but he does it anyway. And after torturing Sawyer he swore he would never do it again, but guess what? He beat up poor Henry Gale. He would torture Juliet if Jack let him, believe me he wanted to. AND, he shot a child with every intention of killing him!

Locke is the biggest hypocrite in the history of Lost, he killed Boone and blamed the island, he tried to kill Mikhail. And the worst thing he ever did was to manipulate Sawyer into killing someone for him.

So the question is, why wouldn’t anyone like Juliet?

Oh, and I meant no offence either, I like all this characters I just mentioned, well except for Jack and Locke.

As to Suliet. Let me just say something, when Sawyer was sleeping with Kate he was miserable, the woman didn’t make up her mind. She touched Jack’s belly tenderly in front Sawyer when they were dating! How is that for a good couple? Sawyer and Juliet have been together for three years, while Jack and Kate couldn’t keep a relationship for less than a year.

Juliet has made Sawyer a better man, they are proud of each other’s achievements, as you can see in episode LaFleur. They are happy together! That’s why I like Suliet!

I couldn't have said it any better myslef even if I tried. :D

I love Suliet because they WORK together. They're able to have a true, functional, and ADULT relationship that lasts longer then five seconds that made each of them want to become better people. They finally found a life to share with another person that made them BOTH truly happy, and that in and of itself is enough reason to love this couple. The triangle/quadrangle has become the essence of everything weak and ridiculous about this show and to finally see something real come out of it is what makes this couple worth rooting for.

James and Juliet are also the only two characters I've seen stuck in this mess that actually have changed and grew and wanted to become something better then what they started out as. Jack and Kates characters are FAR from being able to say the same. Just as separate characters it's easy to want to see them happy, so when you put them together like this....how could you lose? :w00t:

I have always LOVED Sawyer and Juliet as characters, their my favorites of the show, so to see them happy is all I want and if the one makes the other happy....they that's what I want to see....simple as that. :)

Couldn't have said it better.

I have ALWAYS loved Sawyer, but not always Juliet. Actually, I never saw potential for them until season five, through season 4 I saw both the characters grow (and I grew to love Juliet) they have both grown with each other, they bring out their best sides when they're with each other. Sawyer love Juliet, and Juliet loves Sawyer. She knew him when he was Sawyer and when he was James, she'll stand by him anytime - anywhere.

Following up from the original post. Do you guys see a problem with the passion between Sawyer/Juliet? I am actually curious because I have never shipped a couple before that did not have a physical compatibility. Afterall passion and lust are part of love but it seems to me that in regards to chemistry something was off between these two.

This is the problem when it comes to talking romantic chemistry. It's is such a subjective concept it's not even worth debating about. You're never going to change someone's point of view regarding whether or whether not a couple have "physical compatibility". There's no science or to it, you either feel it or you don't. You thought it was 'off', I thought it clicked. I could write a thesis explaining WHY I felt that but what would be the point? You can't really change a person's mind when it comes to that stuff. I think it's interesting how differing people's opinions are regarding the subject but trying to debate over it (such as, "this couple's chemistry is better than this couple's because...blah blah blah) is an exercise in futility.

Anyhoo to answer your question, no I saw no problem with Sawyer and Juliet's chemistry or physical compatibility. It's actually one of the (many) reasons I love these two. But that's just IMO of course. :D

"Good for each other" is something that can be said for every combination of the cuadrangle. Reciprocicated relationships are usually good for the persons in it. Are you telling me reasons such as "Juliet keeps Sawyer away from Kate" have absolutely nothing to do with the passionate love many Jaters have developed for the pairing? Are you telling me you didīt feel the tiniest of reliefs when things "clicked into place" on the island? Who are you fooling, my dears?

Suliet was a respectful relationship that gave emotional relief to two people whose love life had been hazardous and tragic before they settled together. It made me smile for a while, because I knew after seeing it that they have not spent 3 years miserable and lonely. That said, it wasnīt anything too special, and it fell apart rather quickly under duress, and not exactly because Juliet died.

I don't know how Jaters feel but I know why I developed a passionate love for the pairing. First of all, I was never a shipper on this show. Never cared for any of the romances, least of all who Kate would choose because she's the least interesting character on the show IMO. That said, I leaned slightly more towards Skate than Jate because I liked Sawyer, and when Juliet was introduced I also liked her and Jack as a potential couple. I didn't really see the potential in Sawyer/Juliet until early season 5 when I began to really enjoy their interaction. It was LaFleur that really made me fall for them as a couple though. If you didn't see anything special in their scenes then my listing what I did find special isn't going to change your mind, but I thought they were beautiful together. And I think when people say they were good for each other, they mean that they were loving and supportive of each other, something that can't be said for any of the other quadrangle pairings.

:w00t: good points this is exactly why I love them, I used to like Kate and Sawyer at first but they show Juliet and Sawyer man I loved them. At least juliet respected Sawyer which Kate never did, she always think she is better than him somehow and likes to feel crappy around Jack (who I hate)
