Looks like Ian has jumped on the Vampire bandwagon after the massive successes like Twilight and the HBP tv show True Blood. According to this article (http://www.jaunted.com/story/2009/4/9/85749/40114/travel/%27Twilight%27s%27+Rival+Vampires+Set+Up+Shop+In+V ancouver) he is now in Vancouver to shoot a new TV series called the Vampire Diaries, this articles talks alot about Twilight Sequel, New Moon but still it is reporting about Ian's new tv series:

VAMPIRES
'Twilight's' Rival Vampires Set Up Shop In Vancouver

Last week when we wrote about fan furor in Vancouver around the shooting of vampire sequel "New Moon," we suggested another production could sneak in under the radar and get a lot of work done while local teens were distracted. And look, someone was listening! Specifically, the CW, which is moving in with its own vampire show.

The network behind Gossip Girl recently ordered a pilot called "The Vampire Diaries," based on a '90s YA series by L.J. Smith about a girl in a small town who falls in love with the mysterious new guy in town only to discover that he is a, say it, vampire. "Dawson's Creek" creator Kevin Williamson is executive producing and "LOST"'s Ian Somerhalder has been cast as one of the vampires. And guess who was just spotted hanging out in Vancouver this week? So the network isn't just jumping on the bandwagon, it's biting the scene too.

The latest locations for "New Moon" -- which will probably have to switch high schools after news of its setting up in one suburban school hit the internets -- probably haven't already been added to Vancouver Movie Tours' three-hour backlot tour, but the minibus-based group pairs footage from movies like "X-Men" and other CW project "Smallville" with their real-life locales. Bonus: Way fewer screaming teens at each stop.

And another link in this article here leads to more (http://www.pinkisthenewblog.com/2009/04/ian-somerhalder-surfaces-in-vancouver/) about Ian's new role in the new series.

Ian Somerhalder Surfaces In Vancouver
Why, hello there!
April 7th, 2009

Former Lost hottie Ian Somerhalder has been out of the limelight for the past year or so but has just this week surfaced in Vancouver, Canada to press the flesh and sign a few autographs for fans. Last month we learned that Somerhalder has signed on to appear in the upcoming new series Vampire Diaries which is set to debut on The CW this Fall. Methinks that this surfacing is just the first in a slew of new sightings leading up to the debut of this new CW series:

Ian Somerhalder, who played Boone on ABC’s hit “Lost,” has joined the cast of the CW’s drama pilot “Vampire Diaries.” Variety says that Somerhalder is set to play Damon, a smug vampire who can go from playful to evil in a split second. Also joining the cast are Zach Roerig (”Friday Night Lights”), who will play the jock Matt, and Kayla Ewell (”Entourage”), who will play Matt’s sister. Previously announced cast includes Nina Dobrev and Steven R. McQueen. “Vampire Diaries,” based on a series of books from Alloy Entertainment, centers on a woman who falls for two vampire brothers - one good and one evil.

Thank Jebus, this man deffo needs to be back on the TV airwaves. I’m thinking that The CW is hoping that Vampire Diaries will be the Twilight of TV. They’ve scored a real boon (pardon the pun) by getting Somerhalder on board. I’m sure his return to television will be heralded by all the fangirls/boys out there how have been missing his rosy-cheeked countenance on the small screen. I am very much looking forward to more Ian Somerhalder in the weeks and months to come.

And yes there's new Ian pics there...he looks great I gotta say, I wonder how this series will look like.

Ian Somerhalder on The Vampire Diaries: Why It's Not "Twilight on TV"

Buzz up!
Vampire Diaries
Ian Somerhalder admits he was hesitant to jump on the vampire bandwagon with The Vampire Diaries (Thursday, 8/7c, the CW). "It was like, 'Oh wow, it's Twilight on television,'" the Lost alum (R.I.P., Boone) says of the CW's new vampires-in-high-school drama based on the young-adult novel series by L.J. Smith. But after he read the pilot script — he specifically cites the show's voiceover — he understood it better. "Kevin Williamson (Vampire's executive producer) reinvented television for teens," he says of the Dawson's Creek creator. "His ability to mix these two genres is what makes it different."

Somerhalder plays Damon Salvatore, a 170-year-old vampire who follows his brother, Stefan (Paul Wesley), to Mystic Falls, their small Pacific Northwest hometown. Stefan is there to woo Elena (Nina Dobrev), a young woman who resembles his late wife; Damon is mostly just there to torture Stefan. "Damon's just lonely, bored and pissed off," the actor says. Why is Damon so angry? The premiere episode indicates that there is bad blood (heh) between the brothers for some unmentioned past transgression; specifically, Damon promises Stefan "an eternity of misery." "For someone to say that to another person, they must have done something really horrible, something to warrant that kind of promise," he says. "Those things are fun to find out," he teases.

Damon doesn't appear until late in the premiere episode, but his presence will loom large over the series. "He's very divisive, exceptionally smart and, unfortunately for Stefan and everyone else, very, very powerful." In the very near future, Somerhalder says, Damon will insinuate himself into a very central role in Mystic Falls.

The busy actor, who is shooting Diaries in Atlanta, will head to Hawaii on Wednesday to shoot the first of three episodes for Lost's final season. "Everyone's coming back," he says, but admits that he too is in the dark about what executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse have in store for Boone, his presumed-dead character. He won't even see the script until he arrives in Hawaii. "I truly have no idea," he says. "Those guys are on a whole other level."

Best Performances of the Year

#23. Ian Somerhalder, The Vampire Diaries

Think vampire romances are corny (love is eternal, yada yada)? Watch how Somerhalder, as Diaries' snarky Damon, rains on every parade d'amour with razor-sharp wit, cruel acts of vengeance and a certain studly swagger.

I gotta say Ian is SO much better as Damon Salvatore than Boone. He's flat out sexy, hilarious and well a complex character all wrapped into one..and quite frankly he reminds me of S1 Sawyer.... absolutely LOVE his character on The Vampire Diaries.
