Did anyone catch that in "The Lie" Sawyer stepped on a dart identical to the one he stepped on in "Tricia Tanaka is Dead"? What, a cute way to foreshadow the time travel, or something else?

That's looks nothing like the dart his first pulled out in season three.
They are not identical.
He stepped on a stick in "The Lie".

Yeah, he definitely stepped on a twig this time around, but I too find it odd that they even showed it in the first place. Unless its some sort of inside joke/easter egg amongst the crew or something. It just seemed rather irrelevant to film. When it happened in season 3 I took it as just a means to get him and Kate to stop for a moment so they could have their dialogue, here though, just nothing about that scene from a story point of view nor writing point of view made it relevant. Could easily be reading way too much into it, but I just find it strange.

Maybe it was just to show us that Kate pulled the dart out for him, and Juliet didn't even offer to help with the stick

I definitely agree that it wasn't a dart this time around, but maybe it's a circular thing anyways. Locke was shot in the leg while time traveling, preventing him from climbing the tree, causing the same situation as season 1 just a different injury/impediment. I don't know what the significance would be of stepping on the dart/twig but I think it would have to have some or it just seems pointless otherwise.

I guess when he lost his shirt. :D Yea, those dart step-ons certainly mean something.

i'm surprised no one here said:

His toe is going to get infected, he'll have it amputed- uh oh, 4 toes!
He'll travel back in time when natives lived on the island and thinking hes some sort of God they build a staute for him with four toes. the very statue Sayid saw in season 2:shock:
I dont think its very likely. but then again....

btw, i read this on another sight so it's not my idea.

I noticed that there were quite a few things happened in these two episodes which had happened before and the standing on a twig/dart could be one of these. other examples are - Locke falling backwards like when his father pushed him; Sayid waking up and strangling Jack like when the marshall woke up and strangled Kate and Sawyer woke up and almost strangled Kate; injecting Sayid- a common theme; a body falling over a balconey similar to when Hurley saw one when he was talking to the investment guy; the meat chopping had been done before; gun shot wounds; hurting legs.

It's as if it is all happening again but in different versions.

As it happens, the dart that Sawyer stepped on in TTID is quite significant. I took a good luck at it - and its feathers were black and white with an overall "angled" shape.

The feathers on the pre-implosion darts were green and red with a rounded shape.

The item he stepped on in 501/502 may have been a thorn, but I thought it looked more like a (metal) nail. Regardless, my thinking is that we're being given one more hint that there are Time Loops happening - and that for each Loop or Iteration, there will be small and large differences between one Iteration and the next.

I love this theory! It ties in nicely with the writers saying that it is going to be Sawyer's year !

He likely list his shoes when swimming back to the beach...I would think it is easier to swim with them off anyway.

I like the 4 toe statue idea....that would be cool. But I would think the island helps heal him...like Richard told Locke "..the island will do the rest." about his gun shot. Hopefully the new doctor around (Juliet) can help save people like Jack did.

Mayby it was a dart from the Swan?
But mayby it tells us that smth has changed after the time travel not like Daniel said that nothing can be different.
The dart should have been there while they were in the time after the hatch imploded and that's why a dart ended up there (like a ping-pong table etc.).But Sawyer stood on it while they were still in Dharma times ,so the hatch was unscratched then.
Then smth really changed .It was just a small thing but still. We began with a dart and next time mayby the beach camp is gonna be present in Dharma times? Mayby things may be different unlike Faraday said?

But Richard said you need to keep the wound clean then the island will do the rest right? Don't see how Sawyer is going to keep his wound clean if he continues to trek through the jungle shoeless...
