I feel like since I've been following Michelle's career for over three years (and run the website) that it's like I have something personally invested or something...lol. But, realistically, they could kill her off anytime so, I won't get too attached to the character....not yet anyway. ;)

....well, anyway, I haven't formed any shippiness yet for any of the Lost people....it'll take me a bit longer to make my picks, so....*sigh*.....man I wish we didn't have to wait like 5 months for a new frickin season after next week....

I read somewhere that Michelle's character did survive the crash along with three other people in the tail of the plane....so she will be around in season two.

Not sure yet if JAna has any chemistry but....she is obviously interested and not afraid to show it....which is a very different approach than Jate has taken so far LOL. Should be interesting to see how Kate reacts....

Cool av Ka3na! I've always known why I favored Michelle and people like her (i.e. Angelina Jolie, etc) as my fav actress....she just....holds the screen....the camera loves her. She can be surrounded by 10 people and she's the one you notice...few actors have that....combine that with Matthew's excessive amount of likeability.....and it could/will be....interesting....:)

I don't think it's a spoiler, it was in a EW review of last nights sode. I think it's pretty positive...
But I suppose what we should really talk about is Jack's meet-cute with future Lost regular Michelle Rodriguez, introduced in this ep as Anna Lucia, one of these flirty see-right-through-you types that immediately get under your skin with presumptuous personal questions and observations, which, because she's smoking-hot Michelle Rodriguez, soon to be a regular cast member and therefore someone the show wants you to like ASAP, we let her get away with without wondering why Jack doesn't flag down a cop, or at least worry that he's being targeted in a John sting. Anyway, she and he swap banter about Jack's dead dad, she tells him, ''The worst part's over,'' then licks her fingers (what was that about, anyway?) and walks off, leaving us all to think, ''I wonder if Evangeline Lilly is sweating her leading-lady status on Lost right now?''

I'm sure she will work her way into the J/K/S triangle and I'm kinda anxious to see what's gonna happen with her and Jack (although I won't agree with those two being a couple, obviously). I like Michelle and I like that she's a tough girl. Ana Lucia will be a very interesting character.

I'm not sure if I'm ready to make a pronouncement on whether or not I love or hate Ana based on one brief encounter, but I certainly think the character has promise. I thought she was a bit rude, but not in a malicious way. I'm the sort of person who it would never occur to them to approach a stranger and strike up a conversation, so part of me finding it rude is just my personal bias. Still, it seemed to me that she was trying in her own way to comfort Jack, so I have a hard time finding fault.

I do have one little quibble - I agree with the EW article in asking what was with the finger licking thing?:confused:

Ana Lucia was a very interesting character, very cute and charming. I think Michelle did very well in the part. Wahoo for her joining up on the show, if she did... if not I hope she does.

I think she'll be an interesting character. I didn't think she was rude or nosy at all. When I'm stuck at the airport, I strike up conversations with people at the bar around me. I would especially be inclined to do so if the man looked like Matthew Fox. I didn't think it was weird. I thought it was refreshing after seeing Kate jerk him around with her coniving ways for 40 days. The contrast between her and Kate should be very interesting.

I've been a big fan of Michelle since I saw her in Girlfight, so I am thrilled that she's joining the cast. No offence to Evangeline or her fans, but I find Michelle to be a much better actress and I'm really looking forward to seeing how Jack reacts to Ana's presence on the island. I thought their brief scene together was fun and sexy, and this is coming from someone who has liked Jack and Kate from the first episode.

Since Kate seems so preoccupied with Sawyer, it may be best for Jack to be with a woman who is interested in him alone and isn't affraid to show it.

Mrs. Darcy, I totally agree with you. I've loved Jack/Kate from the start, I'm a MAJOR Jack/Kate shipper, but at the same time I would TOTALLY love to see some Jack/Ana. It just seemed clever and she seemed like a really great actress to me. Plus we do kind of need some more girls on this show, and she'd be an awesome new character.

I'm thrilled with the official news that Michelle is joining the cast. Given what we've already seen of her in the flashbacks, Ana Lucia seems like an intelligent, strong-willed, and passionate woman, and I certainly approve of her taste in men.

I am very open to her character, just not as romantic lead to Jack. It's really good that they are bringing on another capable woman to the front and center, as the show right now is gender lopsided with all the real skill lying in the hands of men, with the exception of Kate, who they've tagged with the label of criminal. I'd love to see Ana Lucia as a freedom fighting, kick-ass "bring it" to the Others kind of character.

But as a romantic lead to Jack, that doesn't make any sense, as she just doesn't seem like the kind of gal a man like Jack would be drawn to. I can see someone like Sawyer or Sayid being more into that type of person than Jack. And I'm not against a female giving Kate a run for her money where Jack's concerned, but the Ana Lucia-Jack thing just doesn't work for me. Their scene in the airport lacked any real chemistry IMO.

I think she's probably equivalent as a potential leader, but I don't see her as having an equivalent personality to Jack. From what little we saw of her in the airport, I think her personality has a whole lot more edge than Jack's does. From what they said about her being modeled after that Cuban freedom fighter , I like that aspect. But I think she will lead in a completely different manner than Jack and potentially butt heads with him on what is the right approach to survive. I think she will want to take a lot more aggressive approach than Jack does.

I can totally see her as the go-to girl for the other group of survivors. She's not the type to just sit back and see what happens. I hadn't read the spoiler part you mentioned, only the research on who her character was modeled after.

I had forgotten about the doctor part. That is a really good point, and as for Ana Lucia considering Jack sexy, I can sure understand that! I think most women consider him one hot property.

Michelle Rodriguez rocks, she's great at playing a tough chica. I loved the Fast and Furious, Blue Crush and S.W.A.T.

I can't really form an opioion of Ana though she was in a scene for like 5 minutes that's not enough time.

I was just wondering if they hired MR because I have heard that people think EL is not strong enough as an actress (yet) to be the lead female. Because even in the short scene MR was in she kinda of reminded me of Kate.

For people who have not seen Michelle in Girlfight, she has a lot of range as an actor. Unfortunately, she's been typecast as the tough chick, but given good writing she's fantastic with quiet, emotional scenes. I'm very excited about her role as Ana Lucia.

Even if Jack and Ana only become good friends, I'm looking forward to seeing more of Foxy and Michelle on screen together.

Everyone is assuming that they will find more survivors who were in the tail section, such as Ana Lucia and Rose's husband, Bernard. All we know for sure is she is coming on as a regular, and spoilerfix said today it is as a survivor, not just in flashbacks.

I really think that we can't make any assumptions about Ana Lucia just yet. I do think that Michelle will portray the character wonderfully(whether lovable or hatable). But I don't really care that she might have a thing for Jack. She could also end up having a thing for Sawyer once she meets him. I mean, they said it was going to be a Sawyer/Kate/Jack/Ana love square. So she isn't exclusive to Jack. She could end up caught between them just like Kate. And besides, if Jack does end up with her, it could lead to Jate, because Kate would get jealous and realize how much she wants Jack. :D Optimism, peeps!

Tonight is the first time I see the scene between Jack and Ana. I tought they have good chemistry and he wasn't annoyed by her. Like I been hearing all along. I didn't find her annoying and the licking thing didn't bother me. Jack had a twinkle in his eyes while he was withe her and he looked pretty happy to be talking to her. He had this great look while he was watching her walk away. It was pretty good. I think they'd had a great test run.

I'll give her chance. Hell, I'm giving her chance just because she's latin. We latin people don't have many latin characters on tv. I can't wait to see what's going to happened with her.

It was a picture-postcard day, three years ago at Ehukai Beach, where the film "Blue Crush" was being filmed. A still photographer started to shoot stars Kate Bosworth and Sanoe Lake walking down the beach carrying surfboards.

But Michelle Rodriguez, the third member of the star triumvirate, wasn't in the shot, so a producer asked the photographer not to shoot yet. "It might upset" Rodriguez, the producer said.

"Someone said that?" Rodriguez, 27, asks. "That's pretty nuts, but I guess I had an attitude. Well, sorry about that."

Rodriguez is back living on the North Shore while filming ABC's hit series "Lost." Rodriguez plays Ana-Lucia, who was introduced to viewers at the end of the first season. She returns this year as permanent member of the cast and will be featured in episodes three and four of the new season.

"I told these guys, the producers, that I want to be part of this world, this show in Hawaii, because Hollywood wasn't my thing at the moment," she said. "I was tired of the monotony of it all."

If you're placing bets on survival, the feisty and outspoken Rodriguez would have to be high on the list, but will that personality transfer to the Ana-Lucia character?

"I don't how long it will last because with these guys everyone is expendable," Rodriguez says. "I'm a regular until I'm not a regular."

Producer/co-creator Damon Lindelof described Ana-Lucia as "no nonsense, matter of fact, a take-charge kind of girl."

"It's the way I've been in most of my films," Rodriguez said. "I see Ana-Lucia as a good girl but willing to be a bad girl if it involves survival. She's not your martyr type."

Rodriguez's breakthrough role was an award-winning performance in the feature "Girlfight," for which she won the 2001 Independent Spirit Award for best debut performance and the 2001 National Board of Review Award for breakout performance. Additional film credits include "S.W.A.T.," "Resident Evil" and "The Fast and the Furious," plus the aforementioned "Blue Crush."

"Ah, 'Blue Crush,'" she says. "I liked doing that film, but at the time I was at a place in my life where I just wanted to party ... and I satisfied that in Honolulu. Now I'm in a place where I want peace and quiet, and I satisfy that living on the North Shore."

Rodriguez was discovered at an open casting call in New York City, one of 350 hopefuls considered for the lead role of Diana Guzman in "Girlfight." She trained as a boxer for five months preparing for her role.

Reminded that "Girlfight" director Karyn Kusama wanted a young woman who radiated the powerful, surly charisma of a young Marlon Brando, Rodriguez laughs.

"Surly? There you go again. Not so much anymore. I've been in this business six years, and now I like being at peace and happy. I've learned more about myself and to be myself."

Ana-Lucia came to "Lost" last season, sharing a drink with Jack (Matthew Fox) before the two boarded the ill-fated airplane. Supposedly, she is a survivor who crash-landed on another part of the island.

Lindelof has alluded that Rodriguez's character could create a love triangle that includes Jack (Matthew Fox) and Kate (Evangeline Lily).

"That's interesting ... but honestly I haven't the slightest clue because so far this season Jack and Ana-Lucia haven't met," she said. "Here's what I think: The guys want to see how our chemistry will evolve because maybe there'll be more chemistry with other characters."

Born in Bell County, Texas, Rodriguez, of Puerto Rican and Dominican descent, moved a lot during her childhood, living in Texas, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and New Jersey. Now she's in another distant location, thousands of miles from her Los Angeles home.

"If you're in between the A and B films and the work had narrowed down like 30 or 40 percent, well, it's not the same as three years ago when I had lots of movies thrown at me," she said. "In the process of things slowing down, you get stuck with a kind of monotonous, corny plague of scripts, and I go so fed up with it and needed something else."

Rodriguez spent a weekend watching the "Lost" first season on DVD before meeting with producers. "I like that the show focuses on Earth's unsolved and undiscovered mysteries," she says.

There have been some surprises working on "Lost," she says.

"I am so used to being pampered -- like being picked up, someone coming to my house, knocking on my door, waking me up," Rodriguez said. "Here, they tell you to make sure you have a computer so they can e-mail you about changes and be on time."

She admits the self-discipline is something she needed. "I'm here and I'm ready, and I will be 10 minutes early," Rodriguez said.

So far, being the new kid has gone smoothly. "I'm pretty much like the girl up for adoption; I want to be accepted," she said. "The cast has done a great job, and they know it and I'm definitely the outsider.

"But I'm like a gypsy, always ready to pack."

Her facial expressions and the way she delivers her lines make me glued to the screen. I really admire her. I love that she choosed the tuff girl roles. I personally think she's a great character, but perhaps I'm biased because I liked Michelle Rodreguez as an actress way before I even knew about Lost. I agree, I've seen some pretty messed up descriptions of Ana. I mean why anyone wants to write pages upon pages on why they hate a fictional character whose been on a TV show for only about 5 episodes is beyond me. I've read some really disturbing comments, and while I know people are kidding they just come across as sounding stupid. Then I hear people saying that they are sure that Ana is not redeemable, that she is and will always be a cold heartless b**ch, that she's ruining the show for them. Some of them talk about her like she's a real person they know in real life or something. And what's up with all the hate for her on how she acted in the airport? Exactly La Mer. I just don't get it either. Some people are obsessed with everybody getting along. Lost is not summer camp. Is unrealistic if everyone gets along, it would be boring. The show needs drama. The airport scene with Jack, she didn't do anything wrong. At the beggining I thought that Jack was annoyed but it didn't last long. He was happy to be talking to her.

About the character bashing: I don't like some of the characters on the show and you don't see me bashing anybody. I don't see the point. Why would I want to talk about how much I hate a character time after time? It just take the fun out of the show.

Ok I have to admit I wasnt the biggest Michelle fan but I have read her interviews and she seems really down so earth ( and I liked her the best in Blue Crush ). Me too, I just find some of thier comments amusing now. Some of them just sound stupid. There's no use in argueing with them, they'll never budge. I really don't think that the episode was aiming for sympathy from the viewers... it just showed why ana is ana... and i don't really know if you agree with me on this one but so far, AL's backstory is the most tragic one in my opinion...

Thanks:) Yeah, I think Ana's past is mostly definitley a tragic one. And although I find many of the characters' pasts are tragic in different ways, hers is most definitely the or one of the worst. I can only imagine what she must be going through and after last night's episode I do feel really bad for her. And I felt the backstory really did explain why she's so angry and untrusting.
Count me in, even though I can't really say I love her character yet, but I do like her and feel she is a very interesting addition to the show.

I don't understand the Ana hate either. She has been a bitch at times and I am still a bit upset at her for killing Shannon, but I won't always hold it against her. She has a dark and complicated past and just needs to find happiness again.

She is a physcho killer and a bossy as hell leader but I sure love AL. She is not to everybody's tastes but for me she is like the anti-hero and I think she will find her redemption on the island. Kind of ironic that the show is called Lost because I think she is the most lost out of all the characters on there.

I used to not like Ana at all, but after seeing the last couple of episdoes, espically "Collision" I've changed my mind. I really like her character and she bring a tough girl to the island. Plus, I felt so bad for her when we found out that guy killed her unborn baby. I can totally understand why she can't trust anyone.

I love Ana, and always have. Yes, she's rough and tough, and would probably blow the 3 little piggies houses down, but she's also for loving, kind, and compassionate. Without her, the tailies would be screwed and Goodwin would be alive. Without her killing Goodwin, you can be the the other tailies would be dead and Michael, Jin, and Sawyer would have had nobody to save them.

Without her, and her actions, Sawyer would probably already be dead.

Shedding light on a 'Lost' villain

Plenty of television viewers are discussing Michelle Rodriguez these days. That's no accident; her character on ABC's "Lost," the brooding, broken ex-cop Ana Lucia Cortez, became one of the most intensely hated characters on television this fall in a few short episodes.

Achieving villain status among "Lost" fans wasn't difficult. All she had to do was be a demanding, increasingly hostile leader and bully Michael (Harold Perrineau), Jin (Daniel Dae Kim) and Sawyer (Josh Holloway), the survivors we already knew and loved.

So, when Ana Lucia shot Shannon (Maggie Grace) through the gut at the end of the series' first November sweeps episode, that was, to many, the last straw. Never mind that Shannon was the least deserving of sympathy of all the previously known survivors, that the shooting was a terrible accident, and that the regret on Ana's face was immediately, torturously palpable. Ana Lucia haters merely detested her even more.

And that makes the creation of her character, and Rodriguez's hire, strokes of brilliant writing and casting on the part of "Lost" producers J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof.

For even if the season has been slow -- and until this month, it has been snail-paced -- Ana Lucia has given us a poignant new reason to watch. She's a hero stewed in pathos, who can't help behaving badly.

Still, it makes me wonder what is it about Ana Lucia that has made her so uniquely unappealing to such a wide swath of "Lost" viewers. Interesting character studies of her abound, but the simplest theory is this: She's not cute.

Sexy, sure. Beautiful even. But not cute.

Think about it. Kate, played by Evangeline Lilly, is adorable. She, Sun (Yunjin Kim) and Claire (Emilie de Ravin) have such sylphlike features, you might believe they came to the island from Rivendell.

Kate is also a criminal who robbed a bank, and it has been insinuated that she committed an even worse crime, which is finally going to be revealed tomorrow night at 9 when "Lost" airs on KOMO/4. If she murdered someone who abused her or her mother, which is the main theory circulating out there, one could argue that puts her on the same level as Ana Lucia, who killed the guy who shot her, taking the life of her unborn child and leading her lover to abandon her.

That also makes Kate cut from the same cloth as Thelma and Louise, whereas Ana Lucia's a more kindred spirit with Ripley from "Aliens." Ripley was crazy in her own right, but that was acceptable because she was shooting hungry space roaches. In a situation like that, crazy is called for. Ana, on the other hand, was forced to kill other human beings -- three who had it coming, one who didn't.

In truth, many passed sentence on Ana Lucia long before she killed Shannon. They despise her perpetual scowl, her take-charge nature, her inability to be reasoned away from her dictatorial decisions in leading her fellow survivors from the back end of Oceanic Airlines flight 815.

A few episodes into the second season, the Ana Lucia hate postings littering the Internet are numerous. Some of the interesting ones are available at www.losttv-forum.com (http://www.losttv-forum.com) and www.thefuselage.com (http://www.thefuselage.com), home of The Official Ana Lucia Hate Club, and of course, www.televisionwithoutpity.com (http://www.televisionwithoutpity.com). Such threads are not particularly unique; hundreds of sites run on malevolent feelings towards TV characters.

The campaign against Ana feels a bit different in that it is, at its core, impatient and a tad hypocritical. Like everyone else on the island, her past has shaped the way she's reacting to the cruel circumstances of the present. She was a trained law enforcer who, when the plane and chaos exploded around her, fell back on her training to take charge, just like Jack (Matthew Fox) did for the primary group. She saved lives and helped organize her fellow survivors. But, unlike the other group, the Tailie group was smaller and less cohesive -- prime prey for the Others, the island's disturbing residents.

So here we have a protector, who lost a child and, in the accident, gained a chance to fill the void that left by protecting a couple of kids on the plane, only to have them literally ripped away from her by psychotic strangers.

Most people would have gone as feral as she under the circumstances. But let's put things in perspective. "Lost" fans adore Sawyer, a con man, Charlie (Dominic Monaghan), a heroin addict who leeched off of people in his other life, and Kate, a wanted fugitive. Even the soulful Sayid (Naveen Andrews) used to torture his fellow Iraqis. An ocean's worth of distance from their pasts have made them softer. Sayid himself understands Ana's regret, even if she killed the woman he loved -- who, it bears reminding viewers, falsely reported Sayid to airport authorities before she knew him, just for kicks.

Somehow Ana Lucia is less worthy of redemption because she's the most thoroughly unredeemable of women: a tomboy, and a bitch.

Then again, that's how we know her now. "Lost" is, above all, a show about revealing layers. Until now, we've had a lot of people who are pretty or enigmatic on the outside revealing the secrets within, some of them vicious and ugly. Ana Lucia flipped this around, making the challenge to Rodriguez to make us dig for some solid point of empathy. Should we watch to see whether that happens -- and we probably will -- the girl's obviously doing something right.

Amen. She hit the nail on the head with that article. I find that people have this very strong reaction to strong women who don't play the coy, helpless female game. Personally i like the brassiness of AL. I can relate to that kind of strength and determination. and if you put me through the same hell she went through, you better believe i would be just like her. i would have time to play cute girly games when people's survival is on the line.

Besides, if someone lese wanted to step up to the plate they should ahve done it but they didn't.

Like solos in a jazz showcase or operatic star turns, the flashback stories on Lost serve as chances for cast members to get a little one-on-one time with the viewer. They flex a little character muscle, show some emotional range beyond survivor’s panic, and, with luck, deepen the trust between island inhabitant and audience. Some actors — like Terry O’Quinn — use their chances brilliantly, appearing to lift the series single-handedly away from the monotonous island isolation; others, unfortunately, only get exposed for the ensemble fillers they are.

This season, Lost followers were most likely awaiting some debut back-story psychology from Season 2 newbie Ana-Lucia, played by Michelle Rodriguez. Ana-Lucia is the de facto leader of a group of wreckage victims from the tail of the plane — until recently not even known to the main cabin troupe — and a few weeks ago, it was her itchy trigger finger that bumped Shannon from the show. Last week, Ana-Lucia’s former life as a chip-on-her-shoulder cop, shooting victim and cold vigilante came into focus. How did Rodriguez do?

Television may prove to be a more hospitable arena for Rodriguez than the movies, where her Girlfight cachet mainly led her down a path of stereotypical tough-chick roles. She’s not the most nuanced actress, but she has a mesmerizing hard-shell stillness to her beauty that allows emotions like sadness, fear and vulnerability to course across her face like wind over jagged rock. I was initially wary of Rodriguez’s contributions to this fascinatingly uneven hit — she’d been all confrontation and steeliness till now — but her solo turn had heft. I love Ana. I've loved the character since her little stint on the first season. And that article in the last page just hit it on the nail. I don't really understand the reasons for hating Ana, even though she shot Shannon because I actually really liked Shannon, and i don't really want to understand. I think that this character has a lot of depth that can be explored and so much potential for storylines.

I like Ana-Lucia. I think that there is WAY too much going on with her character for people to dismiss her so quickly. Sure, it made me mad when she accidentially killed Shannon, but there was obvious remorse and inner conflict from Ana-Lucia. She's got a lot going on that need to be revealed in some flashbacks so we can get a better sense of what's going on. Also, kudos to Jin and Sun for giving her a fish in this last weeks episode. I think it's cool that she's just sort of keeping to herself, it's obvious she feels bad about what happened to Shannon. I liked the scene in Psalm 23 where Jin and Sun gave her the fish. I think she's showing a much softer side right now, and it's nice to see her smiling. I loved the scene in tonight's episode where she was playing with Vincent, and Jack said, "I see you've made a friend." And she says, "progress" That was cute. I think her and Jack could become good friends, and ^I agree, she needs a friend on that island.
I like her and look forward to seeing more of her throughout the season.

It's a bit hard to explain, but if anything I think all the Ana Lucia hate has made me like the character more. It seems like outside of situations where she has had to deal with some sort of traumatic stress her character is actually quite likeable. In fact, she played a heroic role immediately after the plane crash. I think most people, placed in her position as sort of a defacto leader of the tail end survivors, would probably eventually succumb to paranoia--I mean, they had essentially no shelter and they were being hunted by an entity they really had no chance against. Sure, the way she acted seemed crazy, but most people put under those circumstances would probably would have acted crazy as well.

The fact that she shot Shannon pretty much set her character up to be hated, but if you take a step back it's not hard to understand why she fired the gun--they were in a dark forest with low visibility, it was raining, they were hearing the voices of the others, and one of their party had just been abducted.

Compared to Kate, Ana Lucia can even start to seem pretty level headed and up front, which is probably why the story is starting to show Jack swaying over to this more direct and less difficult to interperate female. Hopefully over time Ana Lucia will be given a chance to redeem herself and become more a part of the community of survivors.

I know, I've noticed that too. They really do take every single thing she does and turn it into something else or look for the bad in it. For instance, in Psalm 23 at the end when Jin and Sun gave her fish, it was all "OMG! I can't believe Jin offered that b*tch some fish!" lol All I can do is laugh at comments like those.
It is frustrating though and I'm sick of hearing, "she's ruining our show" from the haters and I'm like "HOW?!" For one thing, she was barely even in the last three episodes. It's not suddenly the Ana Lucia show! lol I really do want her to get some more screen time though because lately, we've just been seeing her sit on the beach with Jack. That last scene with Vincent and Jack suggesting on building an army was good though.
I would think some would get tired of ranting and whining constantly about it. Some of them are so relentless in their hate, I just want to yell, "get over it already!" lol It's best to let them be though. They should have the freedom to express their opinions. It's just.... sometimes it gets so annoying. There have been characters in the past that I disliked, but I didn't make endless posts on how much I hated them. What would be the point in having every character likeable to everyone anyways? That wouldn't be interesting. But, whatever, I've come to accept that no matter what, some people will always hate her guts. I've been trying my best to ignore it all. :)

Ha. Exactly, and I must say the first part...100% true. There's something about Michelle Rodriguez. Even my mother and friends and such whether they really like her or could care less say the same thing, that she has so much presence it's not even funny. There's a lot of very talented and successful actors out there, but very few have that kind of presence where there could be 10 other people onscreen and they are in the background and yet you look at them only. That is Michelle. I think that's where some of the problem comes from....Josh, Matt, etc. they have their own level of presence (though on a smaller level), and as truly fantastic an actor as Matt and Terry and such are, when Michelle is onscreen with them, she really does own the scene, even if all she does is sit there and nod....you look at her. Hell, Josh is hot as hell, and Matt is an exceptional actor, but when she's onscreen with them or others SHE is what pulls you in....she's all eyes man, and they emit something that literally pulls you right through the screen and makes you want to know more about her and her character....that is, if you're the analytical and film-ish type....and even if your just superficial then there's always the obnoxiously flawless figure and natural beauty that makes you want to join a gym and get a makeover (:D), and I guess that's what pisses some fans off....they want "their people" to shine...they want Joshy to suck them in (ha, no pun intended)....they want Evie to shine and be the beauty....they can't allow anything new or overshadowing to happen....so when she steps on screen and there's like this invisible spotlight on her and everyone else sort of fades away into the background, they get pissy. I don't know if it's based in jealousy or why it's there, but it's there and they make a habit of letting it be known, and fine....that's their right, it's just quite annoying to those of us who see and appreciate it for what it is....something rare in the dime a dozen actors of Hollywood, even with the 20 mil a pic ones: star quality and true screen presence.

There's a reason why the casting directors chose her for Girlfight when they were looking for a "female Marlon Brando" type....I think that alone says it all. And that's why I hope this show opens up doors for Ms. Rodriguez to become the Hollywood powerhouse she should be. Ok rant over....and yes, Ana Lucia rocks. :D

Oh, and can I just say I loved it when she said to Jack in the last ep,

Ana: "He ran off looking for his kid again?"

What i love most about Ana is that she is not a people pleaser. She knows when she's wanted and when she's not (noticed how she stays away from the fusies because she feels ashamed of what happened to shannon?). When she does something, she doesn't seek anybody's approval, she goes for it if she truly thinks that what she's doing is the right thing...

Bottomline, Ana Lucia is indepedent. She's got a mind of her own. She is a true individual. I love that kind of person in real life...that's one of the reason that the draws me in despite of her screw ups...

Exactly... people talk about her and Jack being similar, but in a lot of ways I think they're opposites. Like Jack is determined to save everyone no matter what the odds. Which is, in general, a good quality, but as we've seen before it sometimes leads to more harm than good (i.e. The whole Marshall thing.)

Is it just me, or does it seem like they're starting to make Ana Lucia into a bit of a comic relief character? I mean in the way Sawyer is, having that sort of dry, sarcastic sense of humor. I kinda think she'd be a lot of fun like that.

Totally, and like I said earlier it's almost like her lines are meant to talk directly to the fans about the stuff they think and feel....b/c that's twice now....lol.

She hit the nail on the head in terms of how the ships work "She's hot...you're hot...it's what people do." I loved that line.

I just think they're using her slightly to speak TO the fans....and YES. That was the first thing I thought....I would not be surpised AT ALL if that line was her idea....:D

And totally agree about the Sawyer bit....had he said it no one would be calling is classless. Everything that man says lacks in tact and class....yet....the love abounds for the man. *sigh*

I've read many opinions about Ana-Lucia on polish biggest blog about LOST show and all of them were, erm, negative :D I've watched episodes: 3, 4, 5, 6 and I didn't like her too. But episode 7 made me think different about Ana-Lucia - yes, she is extremely cautionous and bossy, but this behaviour was needed to survive on the island!
And then the episode 8th came. It's one of my favourite episodes from the second season; I often compare it to "Walkabout" -> you can guess what has happened with Ana-Lucia, but it's revealed in the last flashback... I'm not a woman, but I can understand her motivation... Ana-Lucia is for me one of the most intriguing characters on island now, but her participation in next episodes is very low... hope that writers don't want to kill her or something O_o

PS Excuse me for my English - I'm still learning it :)

I like Collision a lot too. It is, in my eyes, a very depressing episode. But definetely one of the best of season 2 thus far...plus it contains my favorite Eko scene to date ("What do you want? Peace? Revenge? Justice?...)

And yeah, if you haven't noticed, Ana doesn't really have the world's largest fanbase. But hey- we all know the haters are just missing out, right? :D

I think that we can see clearly the border between understating a character and our pleasure :) Of course, AL's actions are brutal and rapid. Watching her kicking and stomping on Sawyer's wound, killing people isn't nice to watch. But it's understandable, it doesn't come from nothing! I know mothers who lost their children, this changed them - and Ana-Lucia, with her search for love and acceptance... eh, great, great character. People love Locke, who is also anti-social in his life before the crash, but there is no place for Ana-Lucia? Very strange, I'd say.

I <3 Ana-Lucia and don't understand the pointless hate for her. She rocks. And, if you think about it, she's a more intense strain of a sort of Sawyer-Jack character, and yet they both have legions. But a chick comes along and makes those hard-core decisions in face of adversity far greater than the Lostaways ever had to face- but no. Chicks can't be hard-asses. Only Jack can. Because he's, you know, God.

I really love Ana. She's just got such a spark... it's what Kate's missing. And with Ana, you never know what she's going to do next. She's so unpredicatble. The thing with her and Jack in the jungle, about the gun combination, I think it's obvious that Jack doesn't trust her 100% (though she's the one he should trust), and... am I the only one who loves her voice? lol! Seriously! It sounds very soothing. ;)
