I can think of a few of my favourites:
- A Walk in the Clouds (such a sweet movie - the part where (1) he's outside her window singing, (2) the part where they come into the house after crushing the grapes...(*sigh*)
- Jerry Maguire
- Say Anything (I'm sure I speak for a lot of girls, when I say Lloyd Dobbler is one of the sweetest and most charming characters - I love the scene where he's outside the window with the boombox)
- You've Got Mail (that scene at the end, where they hug and she says something like, "I wanted it to be you...so bad" or something like that...)
- The Princess Bride - Oh hell, I'd die if a guy said to me, "As you wish"....(*sigh*)
- Pillow Talk - anything with Rock Hudson & Doris Day makes me swoon
- Come, September
- Breakfast at Tiffany's
- Bringing Up Baby- this isn't that much of a romance movie but it does have a tidbit
- Live A Little, Love A Little - I loved this movie! It's an Elvis flick where a woman is obsessed with him and tries to keep him in her house...(no, it's nothing like Misery)
- Sweet November- this was an alright movie despite the lame reviews...
That's pretty much all I can think about now...:)

"Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" is one of my current favorites, although if I were to go for a straight out romantic movie I think my favorite is "Emma." I have no idea why. Just something about that Mr. Knightley I guess.

3. Sleepless In Seattle - I never get tired of this movie!

Titanic!!!!!! My alltime favourite movie, too!!!! I cry when the opening music comes on, I'm that bad!
Uh, also, Moulin Rouge! So beautiful. Also, I think Nicole Kidman looks the prettiest out of all her movies in Moulin Rouge!
I love Pearl Harbor, not really romance, I know, but it is kinda, and I love it.
Ever After. We almost did a film review thing on this in English, but my stupid teacher decided we'd do Anne of Green Gable instead.
Kate and Leopold. This is timeless.
The Wedding Planner & Maid in Manhattan. These are awesome!!
I have a ton more, but I don't remember them all, so I'll probably be back later lol!

I pretty much agree with anyone who said Moulin Rouge, Notebook, Say Anything, and Titanic. These films rank high on my list.
I don't think I've ever cried at Moulin Rouge or The Notebook, but I have cried at Titanic. That's the only movie that I get really emotional at. I lose it everytime. Especially at the end when Rose dies and goes back to the ship...

Also adored Love Actually far more than I thought I would (added bonus of Mr. Firth!).

He says, "when you realize that you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start right now..." (or something like that). It's just great!

In honor of the upcoming Valentine's Day, let's resurrect this thread!
My favorite romantic movies are:
Amelie - about a quirky loner who tries to help people and falls in love.
Secretary - you think it's just gonna be a kinkfest, but it turns into a sweet love story.
Love, Actually - one of those movies about lots of different people. Just plain cute.
And finally, Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India - it's an Indian movie, obviously. About this little village in the late 19th century, and the British gov't is squeezing them dry, and they'll cancel taxes for three years if they beat them in a game of cricket, and an English woman helps them learn how to play. Not strictly a romance movie, but there's some in there. And it's musical and colorful (and about four hours long!). Watch it!
Edit: Oh yeah, I really like Moulin Rouge too.

I'm generally not one for the sappy McSapperson movies...but I loved Ever After...I really want to rent Amelie. I know they have subtitles, but is the language barrier still a problem?
juicyfruitgome
02-05-2006, 12:37 AM
I've heard that there are some puns in the original language that didn't translate well into English, but I've never had a problem enjoying the movie because I don't understand French. I think it adds to the charm. You should definitely rent it as soon as you can. But a word of advice - if for some reason you don't think it's that great the first time around, give it a while and watch it again. The first time I saw it I didn't really like it, but I watched it again a couple of months later, and fell in love. It definitely gets better with repeated viewings.
And I really like Ever After too. I'm not a huge Drew Barrymore fan, but the movie was good.
