Anybody else looking forward to the live-action adaptation of Transformers?!
I'm psyched because Michael Bay (The Rock, Armageddon, Bad Boys II) is directing this!!:w00t:
What I expect from Michael Bay's Transformers....
Massive explosions
Vehicular carnage:devil:
nice looking visuals
over the top action sequences
Overall, I'm expecting one explosive sci-fi action flick!

as in Transformers Robots in disguise?? now that cartoon had cool theme music

I just hope this adaptation isn't half as bad as what they did with Aeon Flux. That was a disaster...actually, the second cartoon version of it was just as big of a disaster.
Sometimes the best way to ruin a cool cartoon is to put some big stars in a live action movie version. They do it with comics ALL the time.
It's cool to hear that something is going on with this though.

Just the fact that it is from Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg has me excited!:bounce:
I hope for....
Fast paced action sequences
flawless CGI
Hans Zimmer composing musical score:please:
mass destruction:devil:
That's what Michael Bay usually delivers in his movies.(The Rock, The Island, Bad Boys II, Armageddon)
Stone Age
11-21-2006, 03:14 PM
That's something that bothers me too. Take a cartoon, make a live action movie version, but jam it full of CGI... Sounds like it should just be a CGI cartoon with some big star voices. Can't wait to see it, but I'm skeptical about the road they're taking with this.

11-21-2006, 03:20 PM
I think the key word here should be "live motion capture"...think Gollum/Kong ;)
This is gonna be one MASSIVE CG movie!!!!!!
My husband's so lucky he married a scifi girl :D
Stone Age
11-21-2006, 03:26 PM
Well that's sounds much more bearable than a robocop-ish type of costume.
Wagsy
11-21-2006, 03:46 PM
No, it's not going to be Power Rangers-esque.
From what I've read, it's "live motion capture", which will give the CG fluid-like realistic movements.
I might also have seen a few vids of test shots/trailers on Youtube or Google Vids.

Im kinda iffy about this, ive seen many of the transformers pictures that have been released so far and im not impressed at all with the look of them.
Below is an actual picture of Tyrese running from Scorpinok. So be ye warned
http://www.aintitcool.com/images2006/RunTyrese.jpg
Stone Age
11-29-2006, 10:15 PM
Ok...now I'm back to being skeptical... So we have Scorpinok- a giant robot that disguizes itself as a 20 foot tall robot...scorpion??
Dozens of planes, trains, buildings, cars, trucks that could almost plausably pass as real world things to pick from, and they pick this guy??
There better at least be some major carnage in the form of big ass "laser" guns and stuff. :w00t:
I'll still see it, and I'll still like it more than almost anything else coming out, but .

I must have really missed out as a kid, as far as transformers go. Everyone seems to be talking about it and I don't really get what's the fuss. Then I hear a cartoon was out and pretty big as Ninja Turtles and such.
I REALLY must have missed out then. All I watched was Fox Kids, Kids WB, Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network and none of them showed Transformers... Oh well, you can all eat your cake I suppose.

Transformers (the original one) was in the early 80's. I was a Transformers/GI Joe/Voltron/Thundercats kid. Ah, the good ol' days of cartoon violence...
Sounds like you started a little later, but those were THE shows for us back then.
There have been a load of crappy Transformer spinoff cartoons since then. There's a new series running now on CN I believe.

One question though, how can you have a car transform into a 7-story robot?
Here are the characters from wikipedia.org and what they'll transform into:
Autobots
Optimus Prime (Peterbilt semi-truck)
Bumblebee (2008-2009 Chevrolet Camaro)
Ironhide (GMC Topkick pickup truck)
Jazz (Pontiac Solstice)
Ratchet (Search & Rescue vehicle based on the Humvee design)
Decepticons
Megatron (Cybertronian alternate mode confirmed in leaked photos to be an "Alien Jet")
Starscream (F-22 Raptor)
Brawl (Tank)
Blackout (MH-53 Pave Low)
Bonecrusher (Buffalo)
Barricade (Saleen-modified Ford Mustang Police car)
Frenzy (Alt. mode currently unknown; rumored to be a boombox)
Scorponok (Mechanical Scorpion)
Anyway, Steven Spielberg and Michael Bay should deliver the goods!

What I meant to say was how can a sports car transform into a 7 story robot at more than 80 mph?!
The robot from car transition, well that may be trickey to!:shifty:
Starscream use to be an F-15c Eagle back in the day now he's an F-22 Raptor.

LOOKS really cool. Looks like I was wrong.
The original story line had the transformers crashing millions of years ago, then "waking up" in our time after an earthquake or something jolted their ship back to life. Now, it looks like they have them crashing in modern times. Minor detail, but it was a cool story point. Or it's just the way that trailer was edited together.

True, but Bay really delivers in action and stunts.
But the best part has to be that Steven Spielberg is an Executive Producer.
Seriously from the trailer, Starscream is becoming my favorite Decepticon.

I understand guys. Yes I do like Bay's films, despite everything.
I can criticise them for what they are, in comparison to so many other great film makers and entertaining films, but in the end, I still need to sit back on occasion and watch films that are purely entertaining and require no thought -- at those times, if you turn to Michael Bay, you can't be disappointed.
I'm looking forward to Transformers, and will definitely be seeing it sometime over the opening weekend.

Just came back and it's good.
Pros:
- The action is fast paced and the editing is adequate for the most part.
- The acting from ALL the cast members works well.
- The story is alright.
Cons:
-The humor (for half of the scenes) seems forced. ( I won't go into detail.) It's hit or miss.
Overall, an 8 out of 10. I'll go see it again.

summer blockbusters don't win oscars.
Transformers was a great movie but the only oscar it would conceivably win is special effects, which it would run away with.

I was not even a bit excited about this movie until two weeks ago, but then some friends of mine watched and they all said great things about it. I saw the trailer again yesterday before the Harry Potter movie and now I really wanna see it, it premieres here next Friday. :w00t:
Here is my review:
What's more explosively awesome - transforming vehicles battling to the death or a few colorful fireworks? One of two huge summer blockbusters (Harry Potter being the other), Transformers will easily be one of the most popular movies of the year, alongside the epic 300, and certainly lives up to all the hype it has been given. Die hard fans of the show and story may be slightly disappointed, but this is made to please just about everyone on an exciting level.
Director Michael Bay delivers the action he is known for, and with the help of Steven Spielberg the movie is rounded out with humor and friendly, but corny (remember: this is based on the cartoon), story lines. Shia LaBeouf (Sam Witwicky) is funny, witty, and is no doubt a remarkable star to come. Megan Fox (Mikaela Banes), who is Shia's love interest, is one of the fresher faces of Hollywood's beauties, and is easy on the eyes at the least.
A crappy, yellow Camaro known as Bumblebee is the first Transformer (and Autobot in this case) to get screen time, and he quickly becomes a fan favorite. Unfortunately since Bumblebee is a big part of the story at first, we don't see equal screen time for the other Autobots (and Decepticons, too). The visual effects are so remarkable you'd think these gigantic structures were actually walking through the environment. The last battle between the Autobots and Decepticons is filled with an abundance of action and destruction, and what happens leaves the door open for a continuance...

I'm sure they do it on purpose to stop us putting other people off watching the movie....we can particularly scathing in our criticism :p
Saw it last weekend, not bad, typically flashy Michael Bay stuff - a real attack on the senses with action coming at a relentless pace.
tbh, I was dissappointed with how the actual Transformer robots turned out. A tad too cartoony and because everything was moving so fast there was very little time to look at them properly....also a paper-thin plot but that's irrelevant for a movie like this.

Michael Bay Says No to Transformers 2
Transformers director Michael Bay has responded to Paramount/DreamWorks' decision to become exclusive to HD DVD instead of releasing movies on both Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD:
Bay said: "I want people to see my movies in the best formats possible. For them to deny people who have Blu-ray sucks! They were progressive by having two formats. No Transformers 2 for me!"
Will this change Paramount/DreamWorks' mind about at least releasing Transformers also on Blu-ray Disc? We're not sure, but we have a feeling Mr. Bay isn't the only unhappy one. Yesterday's press release itself concluded with a note that read, "Today's announcement does not include films directed by Steven Spielberg as his films are not exclusive to either format."

Terrible shame! Despite his "mindless, lack of story" that is prevelant in most of his films, they are all great eye-candy entertainment that's fun and enjoyable to watch. Transformers beat all my expectations and was a thoroughly enjoyable film. I honestly believe that Paramount/Dreamworks will not embrace Blu-Ray just because of Bay's standpoint, nor many other people for that matter. Such is the nature of their highly competitive nature with Sony and SP. Therefore it sucks even more that there wont be a Michael Bay Transformers 2 to look forward to. Despite his own flaws, his filmmaking style is so individually unique, that a sequel by someone else will fail to meet the first films standards.

Early Tuesday morning, Michael Bay posted on his official website (http://www.michaelbay.com/) that Paramount/DreamWorks' decision to exclusively support HD DVD and not Blu-ray meant he would not be coming back for Transformers 2. Now, he's taking it all back. Here's his new post:
Last night at dinner I was having dinner with three Blu-Ray owners, they were pissed about no Transformers Blu-Ray and I drank the kool aid hook line and sinker. So at 1:30 in the morning I posted - nothing good ever comes out of early am posts mind you - I over reacted. I heard where Paramount is coming from and the future of HD and players that will be close to the $200 mark which is the magic number. I like what I heard.
As a director, I'm all about people seeing films in the best quality possible, and I saw and heard firsthand people upset about a corporate decision.
So today I saw 300 on HD-DVD, it rocks!
So I think I might be back on to do Transformers 2!

Sounds like good news for Transformers 2. However, Bay's change of mind is questionable. After all, selling short your own beliefs for corporate competition is rather sad. Personally I'd prefer Blu-Ray over HD-DVD.

Today at a Paramount presentation of the new Transformers HD DVD, Peter Cullen said you will be seeing, or rather hearing more of him.
"I've been led to believe that there is going to be two more that I know of," Cullen told ComingSoon.net/Superhero Hype!.
When we asked if he was attached to voice Optimus Prime again, he simply said with a smile, "yes."
The first Transformers hits DVD and HD DVD on Tuesday, October 16!

recently i saw this movie a second time, but this time it was on the imax screen. these screens are some of the biggest with crystal clear images, and let me tell you, this was so much better at the imax! it's also the extended version of the movie, which wasn't much longer, but still cool.

YAY!! So we are going to have a sequel to Transformers. *dances around happily* That makes me excited.
I just seen the movie this morning and I really, really loved it.
Wish I could have seen it on the big screen where I know it was definitely awesome.

Shia Labeouf is 100% coming back for Transformers 2 :D
Fans are speculating that Starscream will become the new Leader of the Decepticons since Megatron is no more so it could mean we will be seeing more of him.
All the writers are returning including Stephen Spielberg & Micheal Bay!

:thud: I just saw this movie a few hours ago and it is one of my favorites now. A great movie all around basically. I adored Shia and Megan and also Tyrese and Josh. Almost everything looked so real, like it wasn't obvious it was fake. I wish I could have seen it in theatres instead of on my small tv. XD
And Transformers 2? :w00t:

Even watching this move for a fifth time on a 19 inch LCD montior, I still get excited by this movie.
Transformers, Autobots, Decepticons, Megan Fox/Rachel Taylor:drool:, and everything else about this movie.
This is what THE BEST Summer Action movies are all about.

Watched it for the first time since the theaters lastnight. Forgot how great of a movie it was! Still think the writing could have been a little better near the end, rather than Megatron and Optimus just throwing one-liners at each other during their battle.
