Karl and Alex

Since the writers threw us a bone and hinted with Alex's infamous "they're gonna kill your boyfriend, just like mine" tantrum that Alex and Karl and probably in a relationship, I got the OK from Marystat to start this ship again. I assume once its more concrete this will get moved to canon. Let's keep everything PG and no talk about fertility and the others PLEASE.

I must say I am pretty excited about this. I think there are so many opportunities for character developement and Alex and Karl are fun because they don't seem to be "drinking the Kool-Aid" as it were. Plus they inject some much needed youthfulness into a mostly adult cast.

The assumption that most people made was that Karl probably took the fall for Alex letting Claire go which is so romantic!

Oh also...I know someone else thought this up and I sort of hate cutesy ship names-- but go Kalex!!

"drinking the kool-aid"- as in buying into the Others actions and believing that they are "the good guys." When someone is drinking the kool-aid its a sort of universal reference to being in a cult which you think is good but probably isn't. In real life its pretty grisly cultish behavior which ultimately led to the deaths of people in the Heaven's Gate and People's Temple cults...its not pretty. OK, I've gone off on a tangent, what else is new.

On the Alex and Karl front- I'm writing an Alex and Karl friendship fic which is probably mis-caterogized by me in the General fanfiction forum. Although this isn't the right place for this for sure if anybody whos interested in Alex and thinks they know the character pretty well and wanted to help me beta it PLEASE PM me.

I'm so glad the mods let you start this ship again! After reading your fic, I'm getting really interested in these two characters. I think they both have so much potential, especially being probably the only teenagers on the island.

I hope that nobody minds that I added myself to the list. I have recently become a Kalex shipper. At first I did not like them but now I have grown to truely become quite a major fan of theirs. They are so very sweet. It is nice to see a young couple on Lost. They add a bit of that young love to the show. I also really like how Alex was willing to let Karl go for his saftey but that Karl just had to be where Alex was (despite the fact that he believes that he will be killed if Ben finds him). The way that they just can not be without the other. They are so meant to be and I hope that we get some more Karl and Alex scenes soon. :D

I've really grown some sort of liking to the Kalex relationship. They seem to truly care about eachother, and I want to see if there's deeper reason behind Ben keeping Karl in a change(unless he's just an overprotective "father"). I really loved their moments together, especially the steamy kiss in Greatest Hits. Hope they get more screentime.

anyways, I just love Kalex. They remind me of me and my neighbor, i guess. We literally used to sit in our backyards and look at clouds--the minute i heard Karl say that line, i flipped out lol

An idea just struck me - what if Karl's parents were in the DHARMA initiative, just like Ben and his father, and got killed in the Purge? The Others spared Karl, who was just a little child (5-7 years old if the Purge happened in the early '90s, which is probable), brought him to the Barracks and raised him.
Then he met Alex, they fell in love:love: , and he told her what Ben and the Others did.
It would explain his attitude towards the Others and vice-versa - and, it would explain Alex's rebellious behaviour.

The problem is that we don't know when the Purge happened :shifty:

Ben said he was keeping them apart, because he didn't want Karl to get Alex pregnant. Understanding, considering the island's little pregnant women issue. Although, he certainly didn't have much trust in Alex. But, we do see that she is a bit of a rebel.
