The best one you could find is called iMovies but those only work for Apple.

Hell I hate it when WMM says it can't import a song or video even if it is the right type. WTF?!

Thanks for your help Jen!:hug2:
And it is the fourth (I think) one that I have done but the first to actually involve vid clips...the others were pic vids. And so much easier I have found.:giggle: :o
Don't be too excited about the vid. I have seen yours and they are great!!
*mine..not so much*:o :D

ETA...and Tim...I have that problem as well so I call on a certain Care Bear here at the forum to help me out! Me and technology do not see eye to eye. :shifty:

lol

Well thank you...but I'm sure yours will be amazing!

Oh, I have a question....I wanted to make a vid and I put the song in and started putting my clips in. Then I replayed the thing to see what it looked like and the song was totally off. I played it again and it kept changing...like the clips wouldn't match the song like it did when I first started.

Am I the only one this has happened to?

That happens to me like every other vid I make. I usually just end up giving up on those vids  I've got so many that I've started but never finished because Movie Maker goes all funky...

hi foxy! im not sure what specific application you have in mind, nor do i claim any true expertise on the subject, but the few times i have dome some video editting i used a free prog. called virtual dub:

http://www.virtualdub.org/
http://www.virtualdub.org/features

take a look/read and see if it might work for you! good luck! ;)

edit:
also checkout their forums, they're quite helpful with technical stuff:
http://forums.virtualdub.org/

oh yeah! i almost forgot - if you are willing to spend around 60 bucks, CompUsa sells a "high speed USB video grabber" (SKU#318714) which allows you to capture video from other sources, like a vcr or videocamera, but if the source is analog the quality sux.

anyway, with that kit comes a free disk for ULEAD video editting software, which is also a pretty good/simple/cheap video editor. ULEAD also has a very helpful online forum (http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/). the same disk/program also contains a pic editor similar (though not equal) in quality to photoshop, but i have found it complicated to use. but it is free and has some real in depth layering/filtering processes if you have the patience to learn to use them.

hope that helps! :)

yea mine does that a lot too. but then it usually recovers the file i've been working on it isn't that big of a deal unless it doesn't recover a certain clip that took me ages to cut to the length that i want it.:shifty:

OMG, Windows Movie Maker is the most frustrating thing in the history of mankind!!! I think it once crashed on me about 10 times in 30 minutes...that's when I decided that I'm never ever going to try and use that useless piece of software ever again.

u got that right. It always freezes. I use Windows Movie maker to make my own animated movies, believe it or not. It's a hard process, so i won't go into detail.

WMM does freeze alot, but i put up with it, how? I don't Know:eek: But i use WMM all the time to make my own animated shows, but its a frustrating process, so i won't go into detail about it. I even made an animated show loosely based off of the one and only 'Lost'.:)

I have a love/hate relationship with WMM. I love it when it works, vids are a lot of fun... but when it's being an assclown, it makes me want to throw my computer (in a caring manner, of course.) Aislynn here at LF is pretty much a WMM Goddess, so I PM her when things aren't working right. :giggle:

(Double posting because this thread is stuck on stupid and I'm attempting to detard it...)

ive been TRYING to make a vid on Windows Movie Maker but it wont let me add a title, or words to my thing! it just freeezes when i do! and it wont let me view it unless i save to comp and hit "play when saved" or something like that.

Sawybean: Do you mean, like a title page before the film and a ending page? I think all you have to do is create the title in Photoshop, import it, and set it as the first clip, for however long you want it.

Want to hear something that really sucks? I spent the whole night making a C/C music video, but then my computer froze up and I lost EVERYTHING. I only had about 40 seconds left to complete! I'm really mad right now.

No. Only what was saved from the other night, and that's about 8 seconds. :(

I have the same problem :( Is this feature not available on WMM?

and also, is it possible on WMM to have text displayed WHILE a video is playing, like over the top, displayed like subtitles sorta thing? :eyes:

AVID is awesome...but wayyyyy too expensive.

Vegas is cheaper, though still costs a fair bit. It is well worth it though. :)

Hence the importance of saving your project every now and then. I feel for you because this has happened to me before. The weird thing is that WMM usually auto-saves the draft of your project, so it's a bit surprising that you lost everything.

Btw, I don't really understand what your problem is about the audio/video thing?! What do you want to do exactly?

LovelyLight
05-21-2007, 12:35 PM
Know-it-all. :p

Well, I'd like some clips to have audio and others to have none. Like, I don't want the dialogue playing through the whole thing, only on a few clips. But, if you change one to audio, they are all audio clips.

05-21-2007, 12:47 PM
I used to have a love hate relationship with mine because it did come in handy quite a lot in the past, even with all that freezing that comes along with the program... until it started crashing every single time I try to do anything. Just shutting down.
So yeah, do I hate it? Hell yes.

to muggle28: I haven't used it in a while ( :shifty: ) but if it's doing that... can't you just import the movie, then save the project, then first delete the clips which you need audio-less and save those which are supposed to be with audio to your computer, then open the project again and now delete audio ones, then make the others audio-less and save them too?
Nevermind that if there is a less annoying way, I have no chance to check for the alternatives.

Same here. :( When it asks me if I want to send an error report to Microsoft, I am like "Hell YES!!!!!!" :banghead:
But I always have to just unplug my desktop because my whole pc freezes. And I mean frozen. Nothing budges. Just stuck.:blank: :sigh:

I don't even go near WMM... I'm down with simple, but it's just too simple. Plus it's made by Microsoft. I have used it once or twice, but only as a last resort to convert videos that I couldn't open with anything else. I have lots of video software on my computer, so when problems arise, there's a good chance that something on my computer can fix them.

Ulead Media Studio is good for beginners... it's actually my favorite thing to use, although I'd be embarrassed to admit it to my fellow film school alumni. Simple and reliable

Then there's Adobe Premiere, which is hit-and-miss, Final Cut Pro, which is good, and Avid, which is really just for pros, in my opinion. Why I have it, I can't imagine

WMM is *really* annoying, it would simply crash each time i wanted to preview the click... like *all* the time!

I just upgraded to Windows Service Pack 2, and along with it I got an updated version of WMM. I only have one more clip to add to my music video, but I want the last one to be sound along with the song. But only the last clip. And whenever I try to do something, WMM expectedly freezes up. So, I can't experiment, but if someone else could help, that would be great. :)

Anyone have any good suggestings for a movie maker on a Mac? I know there's iMovie, but I'm looking for something a little nicer with more choices and effects and such. Plus, it won't let me load any clips I download online. I actually miss WMM when it comes to importing clips.

Makeshift Python
10-03-2007, 08:56 PM
Well now I am looking for something other than WMM. iMovie would be fantastic if only there was a compatible version for PC. I just got frustrated because if a video has a different aspect ratio, WMM will alter it by stretching or squeezing the video to fit its ratio as opposed to just making the original picture fit like YouTube does.

oh my god dont get me started on WMM that is the most stupid annoying freeziest thing in the world! you try and do one thing and you end up sitting there for 20 minuites waiting and praying that it will do something and not freeze and you almost always end up screaming at the screen in the hope that it will hear you and do as you say and then you have to unplug the computor start it all up again and then start the whole movie making process again only to find it freezes 5 minuites later!! I HATE WMM with a passion.

Does anyone know how to get songs from iTunes to WMM? :banghead:

First off, when I go to import them in, I can't even find my iTunes songs. so I dragged a song into a folder, but it says it won't work, because it's not the right filetype. It's a m4a file! Shouldn't that work?

Boarhunter
11-24-2007, 06:39 PM
m4u's never work for me for anything. Isn't iTunes and just all iPod stuff made to work with mac's and stuff? WMM is a windows program, so i doubt it will work. maybe if somehow you convert the m4u file to a WMM compatible file type...but i don't know how to do that.

Caroo
11-24-2007, 06:48 PM
To convert a mp4 song into a wmm song you can either use a program named 'soundtap' that taps the sound off your computer (not with a micro or anything, just from the PC itself) or a converter program to convert audio. (you might google around for that, I can't name one from the top of my head)

but Soundtap is definately the easiest way, just download the program, play the iTunes song, and you have it in the right format.

Yeah those files won't import into WMM. I usually burn iTunes songs I want to use onto a cd and then rip the cd onto my computer through windows media player. The ripped songs should work.
