Robin Hood

Don't know if anyone in the U.K. caught the first episode of the new BBC Drama 'Robin Hood'? I thought it wasn't too bad for a first episode, and will probably be watching next week. In places the acting was a bit patchy and the whole thing was smothered in cheese but I have to admit it got plenty of laughs out of me and kept me entertained for an hour. It's supposed to be as addictive and entertaining as the new series of Doctor Who, we'll have to wait and see if it lives up to its expectation!

What do you guys think? Did you see it? Will you be watching it next week?

i missed the first 15 mins, was watching the kids ballet thing and then flicking threw the break, found RH..then i dident turn off again. i liked it!! i wasent too botherd when i herd aboutit but yah it was pretty good!!..and yes RH was hot!! :giggle:

i really liked it. Prefer doctor who in that slot obviously (though not looking forward to it as much now after billies departure). Robin Hood was well sexy, ive already got him as my wallpaper now. It was a bit cheesy but was still good. Id rather watch that then some reality tv show

I think you've just summed up how I feel in about two sentences. :eh: Hopefully Robin Hood will be the light-hearted, funny and interesting adventure that the second series Doctor Who was because somehow I don't think I'm going to be entirely keen on the new series. :shifty: So, I'm really hoping that Robin Hood lives up to its expectations!

Does anyone else love the friendship between Much and Robin? :giggle: I thought that was well set up, and they kept the atmosphere light-hearted and fun. :D


ETA: Anyone see this week's episode? Thought it was a bit...strange. Still watched it though. :rolleyes:

I think it's great. I love the chemistry between Robin and Marian. :love: She looked so amazing in that orange dress in episode 2...does anyone know who she is? I'm sure I've seen her in something before now....*scratches head*

I also find it highly amusing that Robin "Hood" is wearing a "Hoodie" :giggle: but then again I am easily amused.

And Little John. I love how they've portrayed him.

I just found Robin Hood a couple times on our BBC America channel. I dont think I could be more addicted to a tv channel than this one, except maybe ABC.

Hmmm I started watching this last year, the problem was though is that I had seen before the classic Robin of Sherwood series from the 80s (which is awesome btw) and so I had high expectations for the new Robin Hood, and its safe to say it didn't live up to it. I mean as a show its ok, but I think it could be so much better. I also hate how they've brought some modern things into the show like when Marian was doing Tai Chi in one episode, that just annoyed me. So I hope Robin Hood will be better this year but I'm not holding my breath.

It was a good episode!

I'll try and remember...

All the Black Knights were going to Nottingham, and one of them was a friend of Edward (Marian's dad) and Robin told him not to sign the paper the knights were signing, and he agreed. But he was lying. He went to see Edward in the cell and it turns out the man was in love with Edward's wife so he was pissed that Edward got the girl, so he wanted Marian instead.

So he goes to see the sheriff and says he won't sign the paper unless he gets Marian and Sussex, so he agrees. And guy goes and tells Marian to run so that the sheriff can't get rid of her (he was actually nice to her) but the sheriff is listening at the door and gets mad and shouts at guy and take Marian away in chains to the man.
Allan is one of Guy's men now so he was hanging around guy. Robin had a plan so all his gang were dressed up as a bang with instruments (that were actually weapons).
But then Robin learns the man is a traitor and he's going to sign the paper, so he runs to Marian's room and she's gone, he writers her a sweet letter about how he's sorry for what he's about to do and that there love never got the chance. And then he says sorry to his gang and runs off. They wait in the room and Much wants to read the letter but he cant read so Djaq reads it for him and they all panic because Robin is going to kill the black knights.

Cut to Robin in the room with the knights, he's dressed up as one of them. He stands on the table and throws a knife in each of their chests, they all fall down 'dead', even the sheriff and Guy. But then they get up laughing because they had something hidden under their shirts so the knife didn't work. The guards come and take Robin.

Outside in the courtyard, Robin and Allan, are balanced over a giant cauldron of hot tar, ready to fight with like these club things and knock each other into the tar. So they start to fight, then Much fires this dart thing into the guards neck, and a big fight errupts and Robin escape and the gang follow.

The knights have already signed the paper, and the man is leaving with Marian and he now owns Sussex, and the sheriff is pissed and he rides him out to the forrest and kills him, and Guy takes back Marian. Robin is on the edge of the forest looking sad at Marian, and she rides off looking back at him.

i felt so sorry for Robin at then end thoughcause Marion was just literally riding off into with Guy the look on his face was just so :(

I actually am liking Marian and Guy scenes more than Robin and Marian scenes at the moment! There is real tension and development and it makes me feel so sad for Guy because Marian is obviously going to be with Robin in the end and you can see he really would do anything for her...(but then again so would Robin). Guy is showing himself to be a much more multi-dimensional person than I first thought and seeing him so torn over his loyalties made me really sympathize with him! He has now become my fav character! I love baddies with a soft side! :faint:

BTW if anyone has missed episodes I can tell you where you can find them! Just PM me! (I live in Australia so I make it a point to know these kind of things! As with Lost I don't like waiting half a year to see it!)

i didn't like it first when he got it out the bag i thought he was gonna trick the sheriff into thinking that was " Lardener's Ring" but when he gave it her i don't know i just didn't like it

I really loved the finale up until they went to the holy land, which by boat/carriage would have taken probably months..and they seemed to be there in one night! And then the king tried to kill them and eww it just got ugly.

They've killed Maid Marian
The legend of Robin Hood is re-written as the BBC kills off the heroine in the Holy Land.

It should have been the culmination of an exciting second series of the BBC's re-vamped legend of Robin Hood.

A double Christmas episode would see Robin finally meet up with King Richard and warn him of the Sheriff of Nottingham's dastardly plans.

And even though fans had been warned a major character would be killed off, few were expecting those closing minutes would be filled with Lady Marian being stabbed by Guy of Gisborne and subsequently dying.

If that wasn't enough to upset the traditionalists apple cart, salt was rubbed into the wound when Will Scarlet announced he was staying in the Holy Land with Djaq.

What's going on
This re-visioning by the BBC hasn't gone down well with fans of the original legend.

"I'm devastated," said one contributor to the BBC's messageboard. "So is my 7 year old daughter who has avidly watched every episode. You should have seen her face when Marian was killed. How can the BBC change the ending of such a well known story?"

Another wrote: "I'm sorry but what on earth is the BBC thinking??????? You can not change a legend so why kill Marian? I think the writers should buck up their ideas and bring Marian back somehow because otherwise I'm not going to watch it next season."

Series 3
The word is that actor Lucy Griffiths wanted to quit her role to further a career in Hollywood. But with a third series of the show commissioned, should she have been allowed to die?

After all, back in the 1980s with Robin of Sherwood, they switched the actor playing Robin Hood from Michael Praed to Jason Connery.

So will a new Marian be waiting when Robin returns to Sherwood Forest?

This is what the BBC has to say on the matter.

"Lucy Griffiths has been on a fantastic journey with the show and is now exploring other opportunities. Her portrayal was romantic and feisty at the same time. She is certainly the Marian for this generation.

"In the future Robin may find a different love but no one will ever directly replace Marian."

Sorry, I should've explained what I said with although cause I certainly did not mean that I would accept another love-interest for Robin. (certainly not :shock:)
But I meant that I would still watch the show even if it is in the hope that Will and Djaq will return or that it was all just a dream.

If any of you have season 1 on DVD you should watch it again, that's what I did and it made me feel more positive, I can now see that we had lots of lovely R/M moments which is more than some ships ever get so we should be thankful for that. Plus we've still got the Outlaws (I'm hoping Will and Djaq will return) :)

I want Djaq and Will to return too. It's not the same without them. I mean I was thrilled when they told each other that they loved eachother (scene was slightly corny but I'm ok with that.) but saddened when they decided to stay in the Holy Lands.

And I wasn't getting mad at you Mellisa, I was just upset about Marian, and trying to use another ship to show the same meaning in it.
