So the hype has begun. In fact it began years ago.

Due for release summer 2008. Sean Connery is confirmed, as is Natalie Portman who will play Jones daughter apparently.

Rumours say that the film will be based in the 50's which will see a departure of the ever present Nazis in the 3 previous films.

Rumours also say that all (or at least most) of Jones love interests will appear if only for a cameo. Jones' bird from the first film will play a more central role according to a movie webpage i read.

Im just glad that Connery is gonna be back in it. Ford and him had excellent screen chemistry in 'The Last Crusade'

I agree. They were good together. I'll be glad to see them together again. You know, IMDB lists the working title of this movie as "Indiana Jones and the Ravages of Time." Lol. I just can't imagine that being the title. Sounds to me like someone is making fun of Mr. Ford's advanced age.

Hey Pauly, wasn't it you who did a Goonies/Lost crossover vid?

But back on topic, so Portman is to play the next generation of the Jones family? Richie mentions that Indiana's lady from 'Raiders' will play a more prominent role in this film. So is she to be Portman's character's mother?

I was excited when I learned of the announcement... Five years ago.

Now I just feel this will never see the light of day. Harrison Ford has even expressed that if the film isn't finished by two years, he will be no part of it because he isn't getting any younger obviously.

Either they actually do something about it now or just dump the whole thing and embrace the trilogy that we already have. I honestly don't care about Indy 4 anymore. Esspecially since David Koepp is involved in the writing which makes me less enthusiastic about the film.

Sean Connery aged very well. Ford just looks...tired. I mean, listen to some of his recent interviews. He talks like he just woke up. It's very sad, because he was quite a handsome fella in the other 3 movies.

George Lucas said Friday that filming of the long-awaited “Indiana Jones” movie will begin in 2007.

Harrison Ford, who appeared in the three earlier flicks, the last one coming in 1989, is set to star again.

Lucas said he and Steven Spielberg recently finalized the script for the film.

“It’s going to be fantastic. It’s going to be the best one yet,” the 62-year-old filmmaker said during a break from preparing for his duties as grand marshal of Monday’s Rose Parade.

Exact film locations have not been decided yet, but Lucas said part of the movie will be shot in Los Angeles.

The fourth chapter of the “Indiana Jones” saga, which will hit theaters in May 2008, has been in development for over a decade with several screenwriters taking a crack at the script, but it only recently gained momentum.

Lucas kept mum about the plot, but said that the latest action flick will be a “character piece” that will include “very interesting mysteries.”

“I think it’s going to be really cool,” Lucas said.

At the inaugural Rome Film Festival in October, the 64-year-old Ford said he was excited to team up with Lucas and Spielberg again for the fourth “Indiana Jones” installment. Ford said he was “fit to continue” to play the title role despite his age.

Ford played Indiana Jones in 1981’s “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” 1984’s “Temple of Doom” and 1989’s “The Last Crusade.”

I can't remember, but didn't Henry Jr. and Sr. drink from the Holy Grail and gain immortality in TLC? Or was that botched when what's-her-face tried to run off with the Grail?

Just because...they're going to be a bit older in this chapter.

It will have been almost 20 years since that movie in real time, so that would put them in the 1960's if that translates over to the movie. That should be fun.

I've done some searching - eager to find out more about #4.

It seems Lucas announced only days ago, that shooting would begin in May 2007. http://pro.imdb.com/title/tt0367882/news

And the successful script was finally pulled off by screenwriter David Koepp (Spider-Man, Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds).

Additionally, the title of Koepp's script has been unreleased, which means the new film will most likely NOT go by the previously announced working title: Indiana Jones and the Ravages of Time.

Imdb Pro lists the three majors connected with the film. George Lucas, Steven Speilberg, and Harrison Ford, everyone else is still TBC.

But it seems Karen Allen (Marion Ravenwood), Sir Sean Connery (Dr. Henry Jones), Natalie Portman and John Rhys-Davies (Sallah) are all listed among the rumours.

Oh god, I always thought writer David Koepp was overrated. Now that he is doing Indy 4, by default he NEEDS to write better material on Indy 4 than anything he has ever done in his career because the first three films demand it. I just always thought his writing was underwelming and got an undeserved spots in hollywood (Spider-Man, Mission: Impossible, ect) just bacause he's one of Speilberg's puppet like how Ron Howard has Akiva Goldsman.

Sean Connery has told Scotland on Sunday that he is considering returning as Dr. Henry Jones in the highly-anticipated Indiana Jones 4. He previously played Indiana Jones' father in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade back in 1989:

The new Indiana Jones film is due to shoot this summer, and after being approached by Lucas, Connery admits he is seriously considering it.

Asked directly if he thought he would be back in front of the cameras this summer as Dr Jones, he answered: "Perhaps."

Choosing his words carefully, Connery then added: "At the moment there's nothing decided. I haven't got the script. Everything depends on the script."

Filming is expected to start in June for a May, 2008 release.

I hope you returns he was a great character in the third film but I guess it all depends on the script

Cast Update for Indiana 4!

Cate Blanchett has signed on to star in the fourth installment of the "Indiana Jones" adventures. With David Koepp's screenplay shrouded in secrecy, it is unclear what character Blanchett will play.

Harrison Ford already has boarded the project, which will be produced by Lucasfilm and directed by Steven Spielberg.

This update puts the cast number up by one so far only Harrison and Cate are confirmed to be in it. No news on the Clint Eastwood story I'm afraid. :(

Oh and Shia LaBeouf (Transformers) might also star in the next Indiana film as the son of the adventuresome archaeologist to be played once again by Harrison Ford.

Looks like its Pirates 3 all over again producers don't want to give us anything.

Indiana Jones 4 producer George Lucas talked to USA Today about the highly-anticipated film, to be directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Harrison Ford and Cate Blanchett.

Lucas told the newspaper that shooting begins in Los Angeles this June and then it's on to several top-secret global destinations. Lucas teased that one will include a waterfall.

Lucas said that Ford's age (64) won't be a problem. "He's not running in any of the movies. He's either on a horse or driving a car or a motorcycle. And he'll play his age in this movie with what's appropriate. The chases are more suspenseful than speedy. Like the rolling ball in the first film — it's not that he's running that fast, it's that there's a giant ball coming at him. And he will get beat up, which is a tradition for us."

Lucas, who also is in pre-production on a "bare-bones, action-heavy" "Star Wars" live-action TV series, said there'll still be plenty of action in "Indy 4," the official title of which he hopes to keep under wraps until the first trailer hits theaters around Thanksgiving.

Sean Connery has yet to sign on as Indiana's father, Dr. Henry Jones, but Lucas said, "We're still trying."

It wasn't his idea to cast Blanchett as Ford's new leading lady, he added. "That's who my director wanted, and I always bow to the wishes of my director," Lucas said of Spielberg. "I approved it because she seemed like a good idea. When I met her at the Academy Awards, I told her, 'Hey, you work for me now!'"

Good news for the trailer looks like they won't keep us hanging like they did for Pirates :w00t: sure hope Sean Connery joins I.J 4 was a great character in The Last Crusade

Shia LaBeouf, one of the fastest-rising stars in the world of film, has now been set for the new "Indiana Jones" movie, it was announced today by Steven Spielberg and George Lucas.

He will join Harrison Ford who returns as the action hero, the man with the hat and the whip.

Production on this fourth installment of the "Indiana Jones" adventure is scheduled to begin this June in Los Angeles and will also film at undisclosed distant locations.

Produced by Lucasfilm Ltd., directed by Spielberg, and released by Paramount Pictures throughout the world beginning May 22nd, 2008, the screenplay has been written by David Koepp. Frank Marshall will produce the film with Lucas and Kathleen Kennedy serving as Executive Producers.

It will be the third film the charismatic Shia has done with a Spielberg connection, the first two being the DreamWorks Pictures productions Disturbia and Transformers.

"We are excited about bringing Shia into our Indy family," said Spielberg. "His talent has impressed not only his audiences throughout his young career but the directors, producers and fellow actors who have worked with him in his television career and now his film career."

"I was hoping the rumors were true, so I couldn't be more thrilled," said Shia. "To be cast in an 'Indiana Jones' film is like grabbing the brass ring and holding on for the ride. I'll do my best to meet the high standards that Steven, George, and Harrison have set and I can't wait to take that giant step in front of the Indy cameras."

This stacks up the cast list to four: Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones (duh!), Cate Blanchett (Her role is currently unknown), Ray Winstone (I've heard he's Indiana's Sidekick) and Shia LaBeouf (As Indiana's Son!)

I beleive this will help answer your question Exie: :D

The fourth installment of the "Indiana Jones" series will film some scenes in Deming. The working title is: "Indiana Jones and the City of the Gods."

An area outside Deming will be transformed through Hollywood magic into Morocco.

Folks who work in the technical side of the film business have been in Deming for weeks. A building at the former air strip in Deming has been painted blue, with a USAF insignia and the words "Home Of The Fighter Pilot" painted on an outside wall. In addition, WWII Air Force vehicles are parked nearby.

Also the plot summary from comingsoon.net:

Steven Spielberg says that the film will feature all of Jones' former babes in various cameo roles. Karen Allen is expected to be back for one soundbite, and other Indy girls who had smaller roles will be coming back. It is still up in the air whether or not Kate Capshaw, Spielberg's wife, will make an appearance. Sean Connery as Indy's father will be back for a few scenes, and the film is set in the early '50s.

Guess we can change the thread title now ;)

Broadbent Co-Stars in `Indiana Jones'

LOS ANGELES — Jim Broadbent is joining Indiana Jones on his latest adventure.

The Academy Award-winning actor has joined the cast of the fourth installment in the "Indiana Jones" series, according to an announcement posted Wednesday on Lucasfilm Ltd.'s Indiana Jones Web site.

Production began Monday on the not-yet-titled film, which reunites director Steven Spielberg, executive producer George Lucas and Harrison Ford as the archaeologist-adventurer who made his first appearance in 1981's "Raiders of the Lost Arkansas"

The movie is due out May 22, 2008.

Broadbent, 57, won a supporting-actor Oscar for 2001's "Iris." He joins previously announced co-stars Cate Blanchett, Shia LaBeouf, John Hurt and Ray Winstone. Broadbent's other films include "Moulin Rouge," "The Crying Game," "Bridget Jones's Diary" and "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe."

Lucasfilm recently announced that Sean Connery - who played Indiana Jones' bookish father in the franchise's third installment, 1989's "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" - will not reprise the role in the new movie.

The Man With the Hat is Back! For the first time since 1989, Harrison Ford dons the familiar costume on Thursday, June 21, 2007, as the upcoming "Indiana Jones" adventure begins production under the direction of Steven Spielberg. The new "Indiana Jones" movie is set in the 1950s and stars Shia LaBeouf, Cate Blanchett, John Hurt, Ray Winstone and Jim Broadbent. The Lucasfilm Ltd. production will be released by Paramount Pictures worldwide on May 22, 2008. The photo was taken by Spielberg!

The Hawaii Tribune-Herald reports that scenes for Indiana Jones 4 will be shot for three weeks at the Hamakua Coast on the Big Island of Hawaii in August. Here's a clip:

Location shooting will take place along the Hamakua Coast and Lucasfilm has opened a production office in Hilo. There is no word yet on any casting call or other local production hires.

Filming on the project, to be released May 22, 2008, started Monday in Deming, N.M., where part of the town has been decked out to resemble Morocco during World War II.

Security surrounding the yet-to-be-titled film, which has been dubbed "Project X" by those close to the production, has been even tighter than around past film projects on the island.

Harrison Ford, 65, still fit for Indiana Jones

HILO, Hawaii (AP) -- He may be 65, but Harrison Ford still fits into Indiana Jones' tight trousers.

Harrison Ford is doing some stunts in the new "Indiana Jones," just with "more ice packs" and pain relievers.

Many fans are curious to see if, 18 years after "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade," Ford can live up to the physical rigors of the globe-trotting archaeologist in the long-awaited fourth installment of the epic series. The actor's 65th birthday was Friday.

Producers of the adventure, currently being filmed on Hawaii's Big Island, say there's no need to worry. Ford is as fit as ever.

"I have to say, he looks amazing," said Kathleen Kennedy, the film's co-executive producer, along with George Lucas. "He looks fantastic in the outfit."

Actually, Ford knew the hat would still fit but wondered if he could still squeeze into the pants. He did.

The action star, who first introduced the fedora-wearing, bullwhip-cracking Indiana Jones in the 1981 classic "Raiders of the Lost Ark," is actually doing many of his own stunts in the latest film.

"He's doing them, he just has a few more ice packs and a few more massages," Kennedy said.

"And a lot of Celebrex," producer Frank Marshall added.

The movie just completed the first of three weeks of filming in Hawaii, after spending a week each in New Mexico and Connecticut. The lush areas surrounding Hilo are filling in as a South American rain forest.

Lucas and director Steven Spielberg have not released the title of the film, scheduled for release May 22, 2008.

The filming has created a buzz on this normally sleepy island, known for macadamia nuts and premium Kona coffee. It's the most action since nearby Kilauea volcano rumbled to life in 1983.

The film's biggest action sequences are being filmed in Hawaii. Marshall compared one scene to the thrilling, white-knuckled truck chase in the desert in "Raiders."

"It's that level," he said.

Hawaii will be featured in about 20 percent of the film. About half will be from sets in Los Angeles. The Aloha State was also the backdrop for portions of "Raiders of the Lost Ark."

Ford, Lucas, Spielberg, Kennedy and Marshall all worked together on the first three films, so this latest is a homecoming of sorts.

"We're having a great time. It's so much fun being together," said Marshall, who has produced more than 50 films, including "Poltergeist," "Gremlins," "The Goonies," "The Color Purple," "Back to the Future" trilogy, "The Sixth Sense" and the "Bourne" trilogy.

"Nobody's worried about their careers any more," he said.

The latest Indy adventure is set in the 1950s and, in addition to Ford, stars Shia LaBeouf, Cate Blanchett, Ray Winstone and Jim Broadbent. One popular character not in the lineup is Sean Connery, who played Indy's father.

"We would've loved to have Sean do a cameo-type part in this but he's very much enjoying retirement," Kennedy said.

She promised movie fans, who have patiently waited since the 1989 "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade," would get the same level of excitement as the previous three films.

"The cleverness, the humor and the tone of Indiana Jones is very much alive and well in this movie," Kennedy said.

The producers are being very tightlipped about the movie, and the remote sets are well guarded, leading to rampant rumors on blogs and chat sites.

It took some time to get to the fourth film, partly because of the schedules of Spielberg, Lucas and Ford. Plus, they knew they had to deliver another hit.

"The bar was pretty high," Kennedy said.

Indiana Jones 4 Update!

The Associated Press reports that Harrison Ford, who turned 65 on Friday, is doing most of his own stunts for Indiana Jones 4.

"He's doing them, he just has a few more ice packs and a few more massages," producer Kathleen Kennedy said.

"And a lot of Celebrex," producer Frank Marshall added.

The movie just completed the first of three weeks of filming in Hawaii, after spending a week each in New Mexico and Connecticut. The lush areas surrounding Hilo are filling in as a South American rain forest.

"The cleverness, the humor and the tone of Indiana Jones is very much alive and well in this movie," Kennedy said.

- Indiana Jones and the City of Gods
- Indiana Jones and the Destroyer of Worlds
- Indiana Jones and the Fourth Corner of the Earth
- Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
- Indiana Jones and the Lost City of Gold
- Indiana Jones and the Quest for the Covenant

Computers and photographs for director Steven Spielberg's upcoming Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull were stolen, and DreamWorks Pictures SKG has asked local law enforcement to investigate, reports the Los Angeles Times.

"An investigation is being conducted by law enforcement," said Kristin Stark, a spokeswoman for DreamWorks.

Stark declined to say where and when the theft took place. Officials from the Los Angeles Police Department, the FBI and the Sheriff's Department could not immediately confirm that they were investigating.

Marvin Levy, Spielberg's spokesman, said the director was concerned that the thieves might be trying to sell the materials.

"We want to warn the media that anything that is offered is stolen property," Levy said. "We know it is out there."

Source: Comingsoon.net (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=38211)

Earlier today, ComingSoon.net had a chance to talk to director Steven Spielberg about next summer's highly-anticipated Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, starring Harrison Ford, Shia LaBeouf, Cate Blanchett, Ray Winstone, Karen Allen, John Hurt and Jim Broadbent, as well as his other projects in the works like Tintin and the Transformers sequel.

Before we met the remarkable and legendary director at the Amblin offices on the Universal Studios lot, we were shuttled to craft services near the set for lunch. While we weren't allowed on-set, which was somewhat disappointing but understandable, we did catch a glimpse of Harrison Ford in full costume grabbing a bite to eat as we left the area and that made not seeing the set quite alright. He appeared to be amazingly fit in his Indy outfit and we couldn't believe how great the 64-year-old looked as he quickly flashed his award-winning grin.

A few minutes later, we met Spielberg in a private screening room where he enthusiastically greeted us sporting his usual dressed-down-with-ball-cap look. Spielberg was gracious with his time and while he talked with us a few minutes, he was upfront about not wanting to answer any questions about the movie. Of course as journalists, we had to try and this is what we got:

Production is two days away from wrapping and the director raved about how great it was to have Ford back and how amazed he was that he did the majority of his own stunts. He said, looking back to the last film, which was 18 years ago, he couldn't tell the difference between the action star from then to now because he's still that good. He also told us that the Russians are the villains in the film and he hired Russian actors to ensure accuracy with their accents.

He went on to say that the fourth installment of the "Indiana Jones" franchise is shot on film and not digital, despite Lucas' encouragements of doing so because he is old-fashioned, and he added that if the people before him, who he considered great directors, did it on film then that's good enough for him.

Spielberg then talked about what a great addition Shia LaBeouf has been and how he's been doing all of his own stunts, too. Speaking of LaBeouf, Spielberg told us there are going to be multiple "Transformers" films that the hot young actor is signed on to do and that there's already a story for the second one, but production depends on the pending writer's strike.

In addition to Transformers and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the industrious director talked about Tintin, a project he's working on with Peter Jackson, based on the popular graphic novels by Belgian artist Hergé. He said that as of now there are only two directors with Jackson directing the first installment, himself directing the second movie, and if they don't hire another director, the two would co-direct the third. Jackson will shoot his movie in New Zealand and Spielberg will shoot in the States, and Spielberg said the two are very collaborative and that the film will be using motion-capture, which is still new to him.

As if meeting Spielberg in person and listening to him talk wasn't enough, he also signed limited edition "Indy 4" posters for all of us. It was a great afternoon for everyone, to say the least.

Yeah, that poster looks very Temple of Doom-ish, which excites me. Notice how the skull, though, doesn't look like a human skull... hmm...
I noticed that too. I just thought it was one of those stylized skulls, like, distorted on purpose. :shifty: Maybe not. :p

There was a rumor somewhere that involved something from one of Spielberg's earlier films. And the poster kind of hints at it, too. If you've heard the rumor, you'll know what I'm talking about...

John Hurt is he playing Marion Ravenwood's father?

I found an interesting interview with John Hurt about Indy 4 on Premiere (http://www.premiere.com/features/4335/q-a-exclusive-john-hurt-on-indiana-jones-and-the-kingdom-of-the-crystal-skull.html) he is believed to be playing the father of Karen Allen's Marion Ravenwood (he just grinned in the interview when asked) in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, opening May 22.

Looks promising :D you can read the full interview using the link.

Indy 4 Teaser Trailer Here (http://spoilertv-movies.blogspot.com/2008/02/indiana-jones-4-teaser-trailer-leaked_14.html)

nearly half of it was footage from the previous movies, but i'll let it slide since it's only the first trailer. i definitely like what i see of the new footage, though. even if it's sub-par in comparison to the other movies, it's still gonna be good.

The trailer looks great... unfortunately, lots of trailers look great. It's easy to make a great trailer, not so easy to make a great movie.

As long as they don't overplay the humor, it should be okay. And hopefully Lucas doesn't try to make it more kid-friendly like he did with the Star Wars prequels. Frankly, Lucas' involvement is what makes me nervous about this... I know he was involved in the others, but that was before he got addicted to CGI...

They've endeavoured to make the film so much like the earlier Indy films, so much so they're even using the same cameras. This is evident from the new footage in the trailer.

GCI shouldnt be a problem, because it wasnt there to be relied upon before.

"Damn. I thought that was closer."

Lucas' involvement shouldn't worry you....after all he is the guy who thought up Indiana Jones. It was his dream to do the movies, his dog the named the character after. He should have a good influence over the film. My worry is that its going to be about something with indigenous tribes (judging from certain shots in the preview, as well as the title)....more like Temple of Doom than the other two. Not that ToD wasn't great...I'd just rather see something more like the other two.

Strider1002

I think it'll be like The Last Crusade, because it'll definitely have some family themes, and a good deal of humor, from the looks of it. And the obligatory "I'm too old for this" line that all action heroes use when they're past their prime :p

I think Temple might be my favorite, though. It saddens me that a lot of people (Spielberg included) think of it as the worst of the series. It's definitely the most thrilling one.

Hmm. Im not sure what to think. I saw it today. I only just "like" the film. It wasnt as fantastic as I'd hoped. The look and style were there, and it was certainly and Indy film. However, no kudos to David Koepp for this screenplay. The story just was not conveyed in a way that was worth waiting nearly 20 years for. The script seemed to be excuted well, but its content just didnt seem cohesive with the previous films.

Lucky the rumours I heard about the ending were wrong. It definitely teases the audience there for a second, but I doubt anything will come of it.

Oh god, I always thought writer David Koepp was overrated. Now that he is doing Indy 4, by default he NEEDS to write better material on Indy 4 than anything he has ever done in his career because the first three films demand it. I just always thought his writing was underwhelming and got undeserved spots in Hollywood (Spider-Man, Mission: Impossible, ect) just bacause he's one of Speilberg's puppet like how Ron Howard has Akiva Goldsman.

It's sad to see I was right back then. Just from the responses on the script I'm not surprised at all. Because everyone else in this film was involved I thought Koepp might have done something better for a change. Oh well. All I can hope for now is a good time at the movies, nothing great, just good fun. Still, it's a disappointing feeling. After almost 20 years there should have been a better script for everyone to return.:(Maybe I should be thankful that they didn't absolutely destroy everything that was good about Indiana Jones.

When Indy first showed up I got serious tingles. The beginning of the movie was excellent with him surviving a nuclear blast in a fridge lol that was genius. I think the dialogue was nowhere near as good as the previous movies and it really dragged when they were in the jungle in the middle of the movie. They should have given him more saucy scenes with Cate Blanchett's character. It's awesome when he flirts with the enemy. The action sequences were fun enough just not on the same level as the other movies.

The ending was very cliche. Seen it already in the X Files and numerous other movies and tv shows. Like we were surprised to see a spaceship come out of the mountain. I liked how they moved through dimensions rather than just through space though.

It wasn't the best Indy movie ever but I'm just really glad it's back!

I've always had problems with Koepp's scripts... at least, the ones Spielberg has directed. The Lost World was too glib. War of the Worlds was just too disjointed. Indy 4 is... well, you know.

These days, Spielberg kind of alternates between fun, popular films and serious films. And Indy 4 is obviously a fun film. But back in the 80's, he didn't seem to make distinctions like that, because the original Indy films were taken somewhat more seriously. Raiders was even nominated for Best Picture, after all. But with this one, it seems like they're putting things in just because they're part of the formula, or to wink at the fans. And they're not just putting them in, they're cramming them in. It's like a copy of a copy, they lose quality over each generation. At first they were trying to emulate films from the 30's and 40's. But now they're just trying to emulate their own films from the 80's.

Yes, you certainly did get it right one year ago! We should be thankful that Indy's character wasn't completely destroyed (even with considerably less screen time).

I too felt like the film was fun, but missing something. Something BIG! But I wouldnt go so far as agreeing with Lucus!

i guess lucas was right a couple of months ago...

def. fun and i enjoyed it, but something was missing and that "something" really left me unsatisfied...

I find it hard to believe that this film would leave George Lucus unsafisfied. It practically has his name written all over it! Who else, as producer, would have ever allowed an Indiana Jones film cross over to a film about aliens. I suppose the subject is frequent in both Lucus' and Speilberg's films, I just tend to agree with Strider, in terms of Spielberg alternating between different types of films.

These days, Spielberg kind of alternates between fun, popular films and serious films. And Indy 4 is obviously a fun film. But back in the 80's, he didn't seem to make distinctions like that, because the original Indy films were taken somewhat more seriously. The script was horrid, Cate Blanchett was divine, I loved the ending  and no film maker, I mean none, can beat the cinematography of a Speilberg movie. It's basically what THE LAST CRUSADE if it was made in 2008, with all the sight gags and over-the-top tone. Not my preference, but I'm capable of enjoying that. fun indy movie and that is about it...yes there are those that LOVED IT and then there are fans that did not like it all...

however, for the most part it was a fun summer movie to watch and it was great to see indy on the big screen again...so any way can we get The Dark Knight now...!? :D

Did you all see the two Losties among the cast, Andrew Divoff and Alan Dale? Dale is pretty obvious, but Divoff is a little harder to spot...

Just watched it again. I still like it, if a little more this time. But it still has its flaws so I'm sticking with a rating of 3.5 of 5. Above average but not great enough for a solid 4.

i saw this last weekend on consecutive nights. the first night i had planned to go see it with a date, and the second night my friends and i just decided to go see it after a night of drunken trivia at the bar.

taking it for what it's worth, crystal skull is a good movie. sure, it might not compare to the original three, but it's a great movie regardless. there was plenty of action, lots of cool scenes and stunts (albeit a lot of CGI), and the only gripe i had was the ending (which i won't talk about to prevent spoiling everything).

also, i like to think spielberg got the idea for the crystal skull from sam cassell's head:

‘Indiana Jones 5’ Won’t Center on Shia LaBeouf, Insists George Lucas

This past May, two weeks before “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” opened worldwide, George Lucas told reporters at the Cannes Film Festival that he already had an idea for a possible “Indiana Jones V,” and that it centered, not on Dr. Henry Jones, but on his son, Mutt Williams (Shia LaBeouf).

Three knife-flipping, tree-swinging, accident having months later and that idea? It’s kind of, well, “Nuked the Fridge,” Lucas told MTV News.

Asked whether he still considered Mutt Williams a strong enough character to drive an “Indiana Jones” film, Lucas was adamant that Indy just isn’t Indy without Indy. Or, to put it another way: No.

“Indiana Jones is Indiana Jones. Harrison Ford IS Indiana Jones,” Lucas said, dismissively adding about a character he helped create that, “If it was Mutt Williams it would be ‘Mutt Williams and the Search for Elvis’ or something.”

It’s unclear what changed Lucas’s mind about the character, or whether he would necessarily return at all – even in a sidekick capacity. That said, “The Search for Elvis” is hilarious.

Of course, talk of an eventual “Indiana Jones V” is something of a giant hypothetical anyway, even as Lucas continued to stroke the fire of anticipation at his Big Rock Ranch near San Francisco, insisting that work IS being done to find a suitable object for another installment.

“We ARE looking for something for him to go after,” Lucas said. “They are very hard to find. It’s like archeology. It takes a huge amount of research to come up with something that will fit.”

 I dont think they should do a fifth one, much less one without Indy.

ETA: Ah!

There's no new 'Jones' without Ford, says Lucas

NICASIO, California (AP) -- George Lucas says he's already identified the one person who can keep the "Indiana Jones" franchise going: Harrison Ford.

George Lucas dismisses ideas that the Indiana Jones series could continue without Harrison Ford.

The filmmaker scoffed at the possibility of passing the famed fedora from Ford to Shia LaBeouf, the 22-year-old actor who played Indy's son Mutt Williams in this summer's "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull."

^^^Glad to read that.

I enjoyed the 4th movie even though it was suffering from sequelitis. I enjoyed the backstory despite the cheesiness. :)

Well apparently (according to AICN), Lucus just doesnt know what he wants when it comes to the notion of Indiana Jones V.

It will work. It wont work. With Ford. Without Ford. Etc. Etc.

Well, according to Harrison Ford, he is pushing full steam ahead with a new Indy story intended for the fifth film:

There's nothing Earth-shattering about Harrison Ford's recent talk with the LA Times, but he does confirm that Lucas is indeed going full speed ahead with planning the story for a fifth Indiana Jones film.

He says, "It's crazy, but great." I'm not exactly sure the context, whether he's talking about the central idea (MacGuffin) for Indy 5 or the whole concept of a new series of Indy films starring a guy pushing 70.

Personally, the more distance I get from Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull (2008), the more forgetful if feels. Or maybe that's just my brain hitting early Alzheimer's. The problems with the movie didn't fall on Harrison Ford's shoulders at all and I could see him really doing another kick-ass Indy movie, they just need to lay off the CGI and actually involve Indiana Jones a little more. A friend commented to me when discussing the film a few weeks back that KOTCS was the only Indiana Jones movie where the ending would have been exactly the same whether or not Indiana Jones ever got involved. And it's true.

The script was flawed and so have been every other draft I read, including Darabont's, but to those who have read Darabont's script... imagine that amazing Bi-plane action sequence brought to life. There was a lot of action in KOTCS, but nothing that felt like it belonged in an Indiana Jones movie as much as that Bi-Plane sequence read.

Anyway, I'm rambling now, but all that is to say... bring on more Indiana Jones. I think there can be a really kick-ass film left in the series if they get the right person to pound out the script and can get Spielberg's full attention (and willingness to go as practical as possible).

Just saw the movie. Thought it had it's moments but overall it was pretty poor. The whole mythology wasn't interesting at all imo.
Indy didn't do much really, Marion was underused, the character of Cate Blanchett was also underused; didn't do any cool stuff. And then we haven't talked about the CGI which makes it all look fake and the other ridiculous over the top stuff.

Exactly what Harrison Ford is talking about in the interview:

Again, I say if they go for a fifth, go for the tone RAIDERS had as opposed to the more comical CRUSADE and KINGDOM. Sure they're fun, but I prefer they focus more on Indy, no more sidekicks.
