Ok, so there's a Yankee thread, and no Red Sox thread? That make me upset.

This forum is huge, so I can't be the only Sox fan here.

I've been a fan since I was 10 and been to 4 games (one game every year for the last four years). I hate how hard it is to get tickets to games. I volenteer with Special Olympics sometimes and they got a bunch of tickets to a game this year. That was the only way I could go this year. It's impossible!

I really wanted to talk about Jon Lester. He went on the DL last week because of a sore back. After a bunch of test, they say he's got "anaplastic large cell lymphoma." Can someone please explain in simple terms what that actually means? I did a search on google and I got all these things on how to identify it, and what treatment there is, and who can get it, but nothing about what it is (and when I say that I mean something that someone other than a doctor can get). I really don't want our 22-year-old rookie to be out. He was 7 and 2 this season. He's not someone I want to lose. ETA: Nevermind, I got it :(

Well I can relate on how hard it is to get tickets to games. I'm a Cubs fan and it is very tough to get tickets, always sells out although I do go to about 5-10 games a year. I feel for the Red Sox because we are both "cursed" teams (despite the 04 World Series by the Red Sox) I like the Red Sox but they should have offered Damon more money. They say there is a new curse upon Boston, "The Curse of the Idiot" aka Damon. I think it's pretty funny. I am a big Matt Clement fan, eventhough he barely has played this year. I wish he would come back to the Cubs. Sucks Boston won't make the playoffs, you can't get better then Yankees-Red Sox in the ALCS.

i think the curse is bs, Im a yankee fan and they lost in 04 not because of a curse, boston played better baseball in the end. In the 03 season the yanks played better baseball than the red sox. Both years, 2 huge come backs. One for the yankees and the other for the red sox. Theres no curse. The best team wins a ball game. Oh and by the way GO YANKEES!!!!!!!!

But this season is a wash. Everything has been going downhill since that series against the Yankees.

It doesn't help that big papi and Manny are hurt, and Jon Lester has cancer in his lymph nodes.

I had a hard time watching the games in August. It was so hard because they just couldn't win. I didn't get it. It was insane.

Varitek and Nixon are back, though :w00t: I think they're both going to play today, and Gonzalez played yesterday. The team's slowly coming back. You know Ortiz wants to play too, but the doctors aren't letting him. I still don't get what's up with Manny. Is it just "Manny being Manny" or is he seriously hurt? How long is Papelbon out? I heard a week, and I hope that's it. We can't lose him too.

I worried for Papi he is my hero. Poor Lster he had so much potential and a full life in front of him.

We've been expecting that for years. It just never happens. No one wants to pay $20 million for a lazy, semi-good outfielder. Yes, he's a great hitter, but no team wants to deal with him.

Yay, baseball season!!! My favorite time of year. I certainly appreciate the RED Sox even though I'm a huge supporter of the Cubs. I'm a bit bummed since the first game I'm planning to go to is v. the WHITE Sox on 5/18 but I can't wait!!!!!!!:bounce:

i've been a sox fan for awhile. i live in massachusetts after all, so it's hard not to be one. even though tickets are hard to come by, i still manage to hit one or two each year.

i'm a bit disappointed the red sox opened with a loss, but i'm glad baseball is here. with baseball season comes great weather and i'm definitely ready for that!

I just watched the highlights on Baseball Tonight. They really killed Seattle. I didn't know Josh Beckett was playing for the Sox now. He's one of my favorite pitchers and it doesn't hurt that he's cute :giggle:

Went to my first game of the season on April 24th, and it was a great time even though the Sox had their asses handed to 'em. Sat in the right field grandstand courtesy of my father's associate, and didn't pay a dime for the tickets.

HUUUUGE Sox fan here :) I just got back from a road trip. My dad and I went to San Diego and watched the Sox take 2 out of 3 from the Pads...and then we went to Seattle....where they got swept....but it was still AMAZING! That brings my season total to 8 games this year. I also went to Schill's start vs the Yanks on June 2 where they won 11-6 and Wake's start...3 back, I forget the date, but he pitched REALLY well and they won 2-1. GO SOX!!!!

You sure about that after tonight? I see no way Dice-K and Wake come out with dominating stuff. Matsuzaka-Westbrook is a tossup. Wakefield hasn't pitched at all lately -- lord knows how the back is doing. Our only obvious advantage is Papelbon over Borowski, but that's rendered completely meaingless by our idiot manager who still seems to think that going with Gagné is justifiable in high-leverage situations. Either way, it's tough to lose when you've got Papi and Manny sporting an ungodly combined OBP of like .700.

Monday night should really tell which team is going to win this thing.
