My moms was obsessed with the Beatles in their day.. She saw them on their first U.S. tour when they came to Dallas.. She's handed down alot of old items to me from them that I'm sure are worth some cash.. I'll take pics if ya'll are interested.. Lots of old magazines and books.. A square inch of carpet that paul stood on from the hotel room they stayed at (which oddly enough.. From what I remember, was turned into a Jail:p )..

I have all the anthology cd's.. I have to say those are my favorites.. I like hearing the rough cuts, demos and rehearsals.. My favorite studio album is the white album though..

Abbey Road is their best, in my opinion.

They're the best band out there, in my opinion. Other bands may rock harder or make prettier music but no one has the consistant greatness of the Beatles after Rubber Soul. (And the early stuff was catchy too!)

I've been a Beatles fan since forever :D ... My mom used to play them to me when I was very very little, so they're naturally one of the best bands in the world to me now, having grown up with them ;).
Favourite songs: She Loves You, Help!, Eleanor Rigby.. Couldn't quite pick one album out..

My fav beatle's Paul, though :). (I fell in love with him when I was 3, so there you go:p)

Well I can say that I like today's bands, not to say emo excactly but well my music taste is still pretty vast and I like the Beatles, too. That might also have something to do with the fact that my mother was a huge fan of theirs and still likes them a lot, it's cool sometimes we just listen to them and go on talking about them for quite some time.

Beatles are pure class!

Every album from Sgt.Pepper to their last one is pure genius.

On the albums before Sgt.Peppers even though theres moments of genius, theres always some songs which i will usually skip.

And all the early singles not on any album are great.

The Beatles probably influenced every band I ever have or ever will listen to. My entire family is obsessed with them, but I just can't get into their music at all. I can't stand it.

I appreciate how much everybody else loves it, and I'm very grateful for the influence they've had on my musical heroes, but I just don't get it.

I won't try to sway you . Some of their music does sound dated, but some of it is timeless.

I am curious if you like any other bands from that era. Stones maybe ?

Thanks for understanding. I'm DEFINITELY NOT a Stones fan. I'll leave it there.

I guess the closest thing would be Zeppelin and Aerosmith. I'm a pretty big Zeppelin fan. There are other random songs from that generation that I like, but I'm mostly into more modern stuff ("modern" as in early 90's bands :) ).

Since last summer I have become totally obsessed with The Beatles, they are like my favourite band, and I’m planning to introduce my form to them tomorrow but I can only play one song to them Via YouTube, what song do you think captures The Beatles best?

Locke815
03-15-2007, 03:26 PM
I think we each have different "favourite" songs Cowboy.

I could suggest the likes of,

Yesterday
or
Let It Be
or
All You Need Is Love

Then someone will post " Nah, sod that lot, Polythene Pam or Sea Of Holes are the best imho" :D

You would be best served by your own feelings for a particular song, as you can convey directly WHY it does so.

All right, I'm a bit irked that the Evanescence thread is more active that this one, but aside from that...
Sadly, I've only been a Beatles fan for a little over a week, after having no music to listen to and a random thought of "Hey! Why not download some Beatles songs?!" Needless to say, they've instantly become my all-time favourite group and I've been gathering songs, CDs, and books concerning them like mad. I already fell in love with "A Hard Day's Night" and recently purchased the DVD, while my whole mp3 player has been stuffed with their classics.
My favourite Beatle would have to be Paul, as his personality is so infectious, but I'm also very fond of John and Ringo. I haven't anything against George - he just hasn't this duende that pulls me in to who he was (in my personal opinion...).
I don't really have one song in particular that I love above all the others - it's a mood thing. Recently, though, "Hey Jude", "For No One", "Do You Want to Know a Secret?", "In My Life", "Can't Buy Me Love", "We Can Work it Out", "And I Love Her", "Oh! Darling" and "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" (yes, I realize I must be the only Beatles fan to approve of that song...) have been the most listened to.
Cheers!
-Michelle (Who just recently discovered that, yes, she was named after the song. Pssh - you'd think your parents would notify you about this before turning sixteen and becoming a Beatles fan...)

The Beatles' music are & were perfection. They defined an era and their contribution to music was immense. Their music is timeless & can easily transcend through many generations. I mean, you can hear the Beatles' influence in all these rock/alternative & other bands & artists today. I think that without them, we wouldn't have alot of wonderful bands we have today.

I love the Beatles. They were my mum's favourite band & their certainly one of mine. My favourite Album of theirs is Revolver & my favourite song is "Tomorrow Never Knows".

All in all I absolutely adore the Beatles

My parents like the beatles, though they prefer the earlier stuff. Afer that, my dad jsut feels that Lennon became fro too pretentious.

I disagree. Huge later era beatles fan (though I do feel sgt. pepper's is very overrated), but with a huge emphasis on Lennon and Harrison. Obviously that's not to criticise Macartney, I love some of his stuff, like fool on the hill and fixing a hole, but then on the other hand you have when I'm sixty four and the abysmal your mother should know.

All in all, awesome band. Revolver is my fave album, with Strawberry Fields, Doctor Robert and Within You Without You claiming the best song places.

Neither of my parents where Beatles fans, I just picked it up myself after listening to 1, Help! Is without a shadow of doubt, I hear it was one of Jon Lennon’s favourites because he wrote it from the heart rather then what was requested by the management, I listen to the Beatles everyday and am happily obsessed, I hate when people say The Beatles where rubbish, I mean I would mind people saying they didn’t like the music, it’s their opinion but I don’t think you can deny the genius of Paul, john, George and Ringo. The other day at school we played badminton, and because I can’t do one thing without incorporating the fab four we played Beatles Badminton when every time you hit the shuttle cock you had to shout your favourite Beatles name, mine was Paul!
To conclude this ramble I’d like to say The Beatles are immortalised through their music and Beatle Mania and even though in the end that drove them apart bringing the world songs such as “Lucy in the sky with diamonds.” And “All you need is love.” Is one hell of a way to be remembered.

Ps I’d love to know your guys thoughts on The Paul is dead theory.!!!

my beatles questions.

pre rubber soul beatles is IMHO rubbish, while post rubber soul is nearly flawless. (and RS itself is just kinda meh)

it leads me to wonder: what the heck happened? we all know early beatles are just trying to sound like american blues/rock. so did they discover/rip off some new musician/s?

and on the same note of influences I was surprised to find out that it was paul who was more into experimental music like karlheinz stockhausen and introduced it to john.
wait, that wasn't a question.
then again the beatles were known for making up stuff for the press. perhaps they were just joking and paul doesn't like that kind of music at all? I have no idea. hey jude was kind of experimental and a day in the life wouldn't be what it was without paul's section, but those are the only examples I can think of.

so what's up with that?

beatles are indeed one of the best bands ever.

I love The Beatles, they're the best band of all time, no contest.

The best album is IMO opinion Abbey Road.

The best Beatles members (in order):
1. George Harrison
2. Paul McCartney
3. John Lennon
4. Rongo Starr

If you want an introduction to The Beatles, the best compilation is probably 1962-1966 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1962-1966) and 1967-1970 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1967%E2%80%931970).

sorry, but I don't agree with you ^
George is a great musician but he was not the best in TB. Mostly songs were written by Lennon/McCartney and John was a 'leader' (unofficial of course)
I love George so much but I don't get his first place in your list...
For me The Beatles is The Beatles, no 'winners' or 'loosers' ;)

My fave (not only in the band but in solo career) is Paul
& In my opinion, Ringo is not a VERY good drummer :shifty: but I still like him, he is so funny.

I can't choose my favourite album I love them all! ;)

I don't know why I like George so much. I guess it's (of course) that he wrote such great songs, but also because he seemed to be more innocent that John and Paul, if you know what I mean. He also had the best solo carrier of any Beatle IMO, check out "All Things Must Pass", for example, that's one of my favorite albums of all time.
