I've heard they're sloppy, like he just puts 'em out to make some quick money, I'm against that :(

I have read all of those except for Nights in Rodanthe and Three Weeks With My Brother and I disagree. I think they are all very well written, and he is my favorite author. My favorites were definately The Notebook, A Walk to Remember, and The Guardian.

Are they all sappy romance novels? Does he actually change themes/characters/style/plotline?

Well, a lot of them are sappy romance novels, but he does change the characters & plotlines & everything.

Obviously, I completely disagree. Every book he puts out is original and new. The characters are all fresh and intelligent. Every plot is creative and intriguing. The biggest thing that I love about his take on writing romance is that it isn't very overdone at all, it's very laid back and real.

If you want to talk about someone who puts books out to make quick money, then we'll discuss Danielle Steel.

Haha, maybe I'll pick one up, they seem like quick reads too, I see them everywhere.. You talked me into it

Totally disagree, the way these books are written make me feel every emotion imaginable. I have cried, i have laughed aloud, i even have said 'aww' out loud in certain places. His use of description, just his whoe style can send chills up my spine it's so beautiful.

I own 'A Walk to Remember', 'The Notebook' and 'True Believer'. I have the sequel to it to read soon they're the only ones i've read so far because i don't have as much time to read now as i used to but i do love his books. I enjoyed all of thes, especially 'A Walk to Remember' it is definetely on my list of fave books.

I love his style. I haven't seen many authors better than he is at capturing every detail of a person and city. I can't wait to read his new works.

i dont know about that, but it seems to me, the only book that stands out form the rest is The Rescue.

about the notebook, bah, i didn't cry for that.

The Rescue is just... something different, something better than the rest.

message in the bottle is alright, but the rest... i dunno

I love AWTR( I liked the movie better) and The Notebook(I liked the book better), The Wedding was just beautiful, the part about the swan being Allie was beautiful and heartbreaking. I know they can never make a The Wedding movie b/c they already screwed that up in the movie. lol

I read The Notebook over the summer because it had been recommended to me multiple times by friends on line, and I'd heard good things about the movie.

It took me two days to read, and I have to say, I missed what everyone else seems to see.

It was a nice story, but for me it doesn't go much further than 'nice'. I found myself questioning recently, if it was just my individual reader response that made me not so fond of this book. (I've been studying reader response theory recently.) I was wondering if it was because I don't really have faith in the whole young love , breaking up, getting back together years later kind of story. On this basis, are there any recommendations for a Nicholas Sparks novel that isn't anything like that?

I think my main problem with the book though, I have to say, was the quality of the writing. It was readable, yes, but I felt it was sometimes forced...some of the language used was often overly impressionistic, and in fact, I felt the impressionistic language was often forced in for a more 'romantic' effect. Sparks also seemed to have problems with PoV at times. Most of the problems should have been fixed with a decent proof reader and editor - I actually nearly took a pen to it at one point.

I really wanted to like it, I really did - I'd heard such good things. But I can honestly say I've read a lot of fan fics that were better written, more developed and better edited.

I loved The Notebook(book) better than the movie, don't get me wrong I LOVE the movie but so much of it wasn't in the book and it kinda made me mad, but oh well. That's probably b/c I read the book like 5 times before I saw the movie.

As for AWTR I liked the movie better than the book, probably b/c I watched the movie 48 times(literally) before I read the book.

The Wedding was AMAZING! I loved it so much and I wish that it would be a movie but they can't now since Allie and Noah died together in the movie, that was one of the things that STILL really makes me angry.

I'd love to read some of his other books sometime too. :D

They are romance novels. There are a lot of books that he has written, the couple I have read were very good. "The Rescue" was my favourite.

I agree with Liz! about The Wedding and Three Weeks With My Brother.

The Wedding...I thought it was cute...but it's the second part of The Notebook...but truthfully it's not the best. And Three Weeks With My Brother is non-fiction...and it's pretty serious too. But I enjoyed the writing.

My personal favorite is The Guardian, but I'm just starting Dear John...and it seems different so far...I can't put my finger on why.

I've only read A Walk To Remember, and I thought it was such a beautiful, but heartbreaking, storyline. I've seen that movie and The Notebook which I loved, and is next on my list to by. Especially now I know there is a sequel! I keep meaning to buy some more of his books, but I always remember after I've finished shopping and I'm on the bus home.

I'm not into romance novels, but The Notebook and A Walk to Remember were both so truly beautiful and pure, I really can't help but love them. I sobbed my eyes out reading them, and watching the movie versions.

I've only read The Notebook, and I loved it. Nicholas Sparks is not even nearly one of my favourite authors (I have a thing for the south americans... :D), but The Notebook made me completely emotional, which is rare. I don't cry often and that book made me sob. so that's it: makes me cry = me likey. :D

^Do you mean The Choice? I got it for St. Nicholas Day but haven't read it yet. I love all of Nicholas Spark's books. I have to say that I liked the movie of A Walk to Remember better than the book but it was still good. Dear John, The Guardian, True Believer, and At First Sight were good too. My favorite is The Notebook though :cloud9:

Imo he's not a great writer but the premise of some of his stories are really lovely like The Notebook or A Walk To Remember.Definitely not one of my favourite authors but some of his novels are really special.
