And how will they do this coming season?
I'm an Arsenal fan, and I think we're looking good for the new season.
Henry has signed a new deal, we have signed Rosicky, and I am certain that we will also sign -
Saviola (£4m)
Curtis Davies (£10m)
Yaya Toure (£7m)
With a brand spanking new stadium to play in, I cant wait :D
I'm an Aberdeen fan in the Scottish premiership.
But I like Liverpool a lot, I've been a part time fan since the early 80's.
I don't think Arsenal will win the premier league this season, more than likely Chelski.. as per!!

Yeah, we've got real quality football here in the states. :p
Can't wait to see how bad the MLS All-Star team get romped by those devils from Chelsea. Although, DC United did beat the crap out of Scottish League Champs Celtic 4-0 yesterday. Not sure if Celtic was playing their A squad though.
Anyway, my teams in Europe are Manchester United and the Prem. newboys Reading (mainly because Convey is on their team). Oh yeah, I follow Fulham a bit too, with McBride and Bocanegra.
Unfortunately, I think ManU's days of winning are slowly coming to a close. :worry:

Liverpool, Steven Gerrard is without a doubt the best player in the world. (Even better than Ronaldhino!) IMO. We've been winning a lot of trophy's lately. the Champions league and FA cup Semi-Final's matches between Liverpool and Chelsea really established Liverpool as the biggest club in the country (again IMO). And the FA cup/Champions League Final really just summed up Liverpool's dominance.
I think Liverpool have an excellent chance of winning the Premiership this year, we beat the Champions in the FA cup, over the years Liverpool has been making a steady climb to the top. This year it looks like the Premiership will be won by Liverpool.

Wow, I admire your positivity mate, hehe
If I may be so bold, to be dominant, you must first be consistent, and whilst Liverpool have been winning trophies recently, their league position has, until last season, been lower than a dominant team should be.
As for the best player in the world. Step forward Mr Thierry Henry ;) :p

Very good point, however the same can be said for Arsenal, all teams go through patches where they are the greatest, in the 80's it was Liverpool, then Man U then Arsenal then Chelsea. The difference is that Liverpool don't just sit back like good little boys and except their time has passed. They fight back and as of late they have proved they can't be silenced. Until last season our League positions were dissapointing, but our Champions League victory has awakened the Liverpool squad once again. We can come back from anything that anyone can throw at us. That's what makes a dominant team.
For the last few years Arsenal has beaten us in just about everything, but as I mentioned before we have now over taken Arsenal in the league Beaten both the runners up and the Champions (Man U and Chelsea) in the FA cup and won the FA cup it's self for the Seventh time. I respect the Arsenal squad they are one of my favourites, but even you must admit Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool are the better sides.
To me the moment Liverpool turned itself around was the 2001 FA cup final against Arsenal, when all looked lost again, Liverpool proved they were still the best by coming back and beating Arsenal 2-1.
And as for Thierry Henry he is one of the greatest players in the world, but to me he doesn't have what Stevie G has. Leadership Skills, Defensive Skills, The ability to score from ridiculosly long ranges and the Ability to change the entire tempo of a match. (The 2006 FA cup Final as an example)
But then again this is all my opinon.
However what is a fact is that Liverpool are the most succesful team in England.
Five champions league victories and Seven FA cups says it all really.
P.S Belive it our not I do actually like Arsenal a lot they are my number 2 team. But to me Liverpool will always be number 1.
Marvster
07-15-2006, 09:46 AM
Some very good points there mate, in fact the only ones I wouldn't agree with are Thierry not being able to score from long range - Roy Carroll will tell you different ;) and the ability to turn a game - We're always barracked as being a "one man team" - that's cos Thierry is a match winner.
If Arsenal weren't to win the title, I'd sooner see Liverpool win it than Chelsea or United though ;)

If this is how you view it, then Arsenal are a very inconsitent team, top of the league then dropping down to fourth. I also think your forgetting our FA cup victory this year. Also the fact we finished the premiership this year higer than Arsenal.
Liverpool aren't the team that are always winning, but when we need it the most we always win. That's just a fact, when all looks lost Liverpool will always come back, that doesn't make them consistent. It just proves their skill. Arsenal have gone from a tremendous winning streak, to a bit of a losing streak. Oh well at least there consistent.
You still haven't answered my question, if Arsenal and Wenger are so good, why have they never won the champions league?. Since Steven Gerrard became leader of Liverpool we have been winning Trophies. Rafa Benitez has reshaped Liverpool from a laughing stock, into arguably the best side in England/Europe.
We can argue all we like, but one match doesn't prove on team is better than another, so we really don't know who the best is. All we know is that Liverpool and Arsenal are contenders. But if you wish to look at it in statistics you've only won the Premiership more times than us. We have won the Champions League (The big one) more times than Arsenal (5 times more). But as I said we don't know who the best is, all we know is it's between Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool.
P.S. When I say "Performed well" I mean put on a good match, not constantly win.

"You still haven't answered my question, if Arsenal and Wenger are so good, why have they never won the champions league?. "
We won the Champions League when it was still the European Cup mate ;)
And anyway, that's not the point, I was talking about consitency, and you can't argue that we've been consistent, as I said, never below the top 2 in 10 years :D
Like I said, I hope Liverpool do well, but it's important to keep perspective - remember, a lot of teams have had one blinding season (Everton, Leeds, etc) and not followed it up - that's what I mean by consistency. It has to be prolonged. Sure, Arsenal had a lack lustre season by our own high standards last year, but in all fairness, it was a season of adjustment. Wenger is hugely respected in the football world, and that's because of his incredible consistency with only a limited budget :)

8ulletproof your right it seems this is Man United's season, but at this point I think any of the big four (Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool) could win both the Premiership and the Champions League; the sides are very skillfull. I support Liverpool because their the best team in Europe ;) but I also support Cardiff City because they're my local team so I want them to do well. But Sam Hamann keeps selling all our best players, like Earnshaw, Gabbidon and Collins. Hope we can sign Koumas aswell!
I'm really excited about the new season for Liverpool because I think we've got a great team this year. I can't wait to see Mark Gonzalez play in the premiership. He looked great for Sociadad in Spain so hopefully he'll be just as good here. Paul Anderson looks alrite aswell so I wouldn't mind seeing him in a few Carling Cup matches this year.

Im a Rangers fan (Glasgow) and a season ticket holder at Ibrox and i utterly cant wait for the new season under Paul Le Guen to start!
Jeremy Clement looks like a good player as does Sionko and when Ferguson and Burke come back i think we will have a top team to compete in the UEFA cup and the league.
Also with players like Prso, Boyd and Buffel on top form during pre season i think we have a great chance of winning our 52nd title this year! :)
First game of the season is against Motherwell this Sunday.
My favourite all time player is a toss up between Brian Laudrup and Jorg Albertz.
Although weve had some great players such as Gazza, McCoist, Cooper etc
this being my favourite goal from "the Hammer"

I am from Croatia and I cheer for Hajduk Split. Unfortunately, we aren't participating in any European competitions this season because we had a poor season last year. The champion of Croatia, Dinamo Zagreb, are going to be playing Arsenal in the third round of qualifying for the Champions League so I am going to cheer for them. I know, I know. People think Dinamo has no chance but this is their most complete and most talented team since Yugoslavia broke off into 6 constituent republics in the early 90's. We recently purchased some big names, German defender Jens Nowotny being one and have a top class striker and midfielder, Brazilian Eduardo Da Silva and Luka Modric. It's going to be amazing playing Arsenal. I just hope we succeed.

So, Liverpool didn't win against Sheffield like I thought they would but they didn't lose either so its not really a bad result. Its still early days yet, but at least we're through in the Champions League.
On the bright side Chelski lost tonight which is always a good thing but the bad side is Man United won again. They've looked good so far aswell considering they haven't brought in many new players. But I still think Liverpool will win the league!! :)
And as for Cardiff City well they're doing brilliantly. Joint top in the Championship with Birmingham. Ok so we've only played 4 games but still we're not often up there and I can dream can't I. The bad part is that Jason Koumas has signed a new deal with West Brom so he definatly isn't coming back. Oh well we'll win it without him. lol

Just on the Liverpool/Chelsea thing. You Liverpool fans are so jealous of Chelsea it's actually funny. Winning the champions league is easier than winning a prem crown. Porto won it a couple of years back, they wouldn't get close to winning the premiership.
Liverpool will never win the premiership in the near future because they are not good enough or mentally strong enough.
Gerard is a fine player no doubt. Best in the world though? Na your having a laugh. Until he performs and dominates at the highest level week in week out then he will never be remembered as the best. His performances for England are only mediocare. Viera for example would school Gerard any time he came up against him. Long way to go if he wants to be remembered as the best.

Seriously jealous? of Chelsea? Your having a laugh. I don't dislike them because their winning, I never had a problem when Arsenal won the league because they played the best football and it was entertaining to watch. Its Chelsea's attitude to everyone else that I hate. The way they try to buy anyone who's ever scored a good goal. They don't buy players because they need them, they buy them so no one else can have them for example Shaun Wright Phillips!
As for Veira schooling Gerrard anytime he came up against him, you mean like he did when he played against him in the Premiership is it? I think you're thinking of it the other way round. Even Fabregas got the better of Veira!
I don't think Liverpool will win the Premiership this year but if this team clicks then I think they've got a good shot next year. I'm quite happy for everyone to write them off because everyone said we wouldn't win the Champions League and we did, and there's always less pressure on the underdogs.
If I'm lucky Liverpool might be playing Cardiff City next year if the Bluebirds can keep up their form! :w00t:

Hello everybody!
As I am a Frenchman, my favourite team is Monaco! In this matter I'd like to know if the French championship was a bit followed in the US or not at all?!...
But what I can say about the Premiership is that Arsenal is very well appreciated in France since many French players did or do play in this team, and also because Arsène Wenger is its manager.

Hi there!
I don't live in the US so I can't answer for them, but here in Sweden the French league is pretty big because of the Swedish players there... like Kim Källström, Elmander and the other lads. Our no 1 goalie Isaksson was in Rennes last year, but now he's in England.
My favourite French team is St Etienne, because I just love their name

At the moment the papers are just writing about Kim Källström, because he is one of the best players in our national team. Wilhelmsson is more of a substitute, so he doesn't get the headlines. But I agree with you that he is a good player.
I'm not really into Swedish football, because I think it sucks. The Swedish league "Allsvenskan" is like the English reserve league if you look at the quality of play.

Arsenal are up to 4th now with a game in hand :w00t:
Walcott and Cesc looking like the two best young players in the league, Rosicky firing both barrels and Henry and Van Persie running defences ragged :D
I am confident that we'll bag some silverware this year!

Hope so, we certainly have the squad to compete at all levels now. Rosicky has been a revelation and Cesc still puts in performances that defies his age. Walcott looks promising and will only get better. Good time to be a Gooner right now :w00t:

Clichy came on as a sub on Saturday so he's nearly ready to return :)

Yep, With Eboue and Clichy back to full fitness and Toure/Gallas central what a defence that will be. Eboue has raised the bar for RB, the guy has been phenomenal, Clichy (if he stays injury free) will add another dimension to our left side. I can't wait to see more from the beast :D

On mercenary terms..
Arsenal and Chelsea for EPL. Werder for Bundesliga.
As for national teams.. Germany and Holland. (AND SPAIN AND AUSTRALIA)
and France. (Am I a slut or what?)
Cesc Fabregas and Titi!! I hope Arsenal gets something this year, they really deserve it. And as for Chelsea, I hope they get something too, I'm really sad about Petr getting hurt and not being able to play for 6 months. I'm going to cry or something. I hope Werder get their Bundesliga cup and at least qualify for CL.

:shifty: Well this season just keeps getting worse and worse.
Fair play to United they deserved to win, it's strange that only Gerrard, Hyypia and maybe Carragher were actually playing for the club, makes me wonder if the others are too busy thinking about their next paycheck.
Also what's up with Benitez?, i've watched him for two seasons now, and from what i've seen if we want to actually contend for the Premiership we need a new manager. Benitez is the best manager to have for a Cup game. But the premiership's all about consistency. And to achieve that we need a manager who doesn't fear two identical teamsheets!.
Oh well, I can only hope Arsenal carry on winning. They are entertaining to watch.
BTW why the hell is Gerrard a winger these days!?.

Arsenal fan here. Great win against liverpool and pushes up towards 3rd though Liverpool were awful to be frank (lampard). As much as I would like to see us win the title I don't think it'll happen. We seem to beat the big teams, Liverpool and Man utd but always seem to lose to the smaller teams Man city and West ham. We're just not consistent enough. Henry doesn't seem the player he once was though I really like the look of Van Persie, Hleb and Eboue now. I'll be happy with a cup and top three.

Meh.... If both of the teams play their strongest teams in order to get there I suppose.....which United didn't today.....

I am an Everton fan, but unfortunately they don't have as much money as what we call here The Big 4 (Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool & Arsenal). I want to know what all you English think about a salary cap to make it an even comp.
We have it in our AFL and every side except for 1 has finished 4th or higher this decade. Does anyone in England think any other club has a chance of winning the Premiership in the near future or will it continued to be dominated by the big 4?

Liverpool away is always the biggest game of the season and it's the game I most want us to win! I hate them so much (as most United fans do lol).
Going by who has the better team, we should thrash them, but we all know football doesn't work like that, so I think i'd happily take a draw from Anfield. As long as we don't lose...

As you say the first 10 minutes was pure class but then the lads seem to take their foot of the gas and that gave Reading an incentive to go for it (lets face it, thats all they could do)
After Lita scored their second my nerves were twitching (as was fergie's) :D
