The season is almost starting!:w00t: So, discuss about it here.

Predictions for my favorite teams

Detroit Lions- I think we'll do pretty good, possibly making the playoffs, but I don't think we'd get out of the Wild Card round if we do make the playoffs, we improved, but not that much.

Seattle Seahawks- I may be biased, but I think we could win the Super Bowl this year. We are basically the same core as last year, minus Hutchinson and Jurevicius, but we got Burleson.

I still love my Chargers, even thought they got rid of Drew Brees, I just want Rivers to get the crap kicked out of him the first year..they won't make it to the playoffs with him..plus their secondary still sucks

Patriots will be back this year, they'll go to the Superbowl
NFC is harder, but it doesn't matter who goes, they'll lose to any AFC team
AFC > NFC

Kansas City Chiefs for the win! :w00t:

I didn't get to follow the season last year except for catching maybe 2 games, so I'm not entirely up to date on who's done what and all that. But I'm a Chief for life, so... go KC!

I gotta back up my Pats this year. I think they got what it takes to make a good run for another ring. Their running game hasnt been as good as I would like, but hopefully that will improve this year.

Bengals will have a great season. I have been saying for years this is the team to watch. Young, strong, fast, and hungry to be the next champions.

Cowboys may not make it to the Superbowl, or the playoffs for that matter. But the team has improved a lot in the last few years. This is my wishful thinking team. I loved the Boys in their day and I hope to see them there again soon.

I agree that the Seahawks have a chance. If they can keep their heads clear and do what needs to be done.

Nah, Raiders are just really bad, they need a QB, their entire defense needs redoing, especially against the run, LaMont Jordan was a disappointment

No way. This is their year. Totally calling it!! (although I do every year ;))I go to Jetsfest every year (they have their summer practices at my alma mater) and I feel like it would be complete blasphamy if I didn't claim that it was their "year" each season!

Here's what I think. Chad Pennington (when not injured of course) is an awesome quarterback the first half of the season. Then he sucks just long enough to make sure the Jets are completely out of the playoffs, then starts playing ok again.

Bring back VINNY TESTEVERDE and his 42 year old ass!!

I love football! I didn't watch much last season though, I was too busy during the weekends to pay attention to the games, so pardon me if I'm not as in tuned as I would normally be :p but I look forward to the season starting again. My team's the Tennessee Titans (whyyy did they have to lose all their good players) and I have to root for my own Carolina Panthers, who have definitely have made major improvements these last few years, I'm proud. :D

Yes, the Panthers rock, too bad Smith had to get injured so many times, he went from best on the team to a nobody, DeShawn Foster is an awesome RB though, it should be interesting to see if Delhomme makes some better decisions with the ball in clutch this year though, last year they could have won 3 games if it weren't for an underthrown pass straight into the hands of the defense..
Plus the running game was HORRIBLE against the Seahawks in the Conference champs, even though Foster had an injury, Delhomme made some stupid plays too, I'm going to the first Saints vs. Panthers game this season, go Brees!

I'm like 6 blocks away from Bank of America stadium so it's cool, I can see the stadium from my apartment, I live right in uptown, it rocks :D

PS: LOL @ Testeverde, what was that about bringing his ol wrinkly ass back?? Might as well get someone who was actually good if you're going for an oldie, like Doug Flutie or someone

Titans lost all of their players because they were WAYYYY over the cap.

Remember the rumors that Alexander would go to Carolina? If that had happened, we wouldn't even need to play the season, the Panthers would just automatically have won the Super Bowl in my eyes.

Denver Broncos- I think that they are going to have yet another great year. I don't know if they will make it to the AFC Conference Finals again, but I hope so.

San Francisco 49ers- I really hope they have at least a 5-11 record. That would at least be better than the 05-06 season. But it would be nice to have them go over 500, but I doubt it, unless they get some really good players.

Yeah. Our starting free saftey from last year, Keith Davis, got shot for the second time in 3 years. Last time, he was out at a strip club and was shot twice after leaving. This time, he was driving on 635 in Dallas and apparently was shot by another driver on the highway. He had to pull over and let his buddy drive him to the hospital. I'm sure Parcells will be excited, since he cut Davis the first time he was popped.

Huh. So it was just a random kind of shooting then? I mean, he didn't provoke it or anything? Damn. That's some bad luck right there. Hope he's doing all right.

How do you feel about Parcells? When you guys first got him my BF was excited because he though he (Parcells) would whip everyone into shape, blah blah blah. Dallas Cowboys- Super Bowl bound (or at least in the playoffs this year). Of course, we are playing in the toughest division in the NFL.

No way, no way, the Cowboys are going to have a good team this year, yes, and they will most likely win the division and go deep into the playoffs, however, they are NOT in the toughest division, I'd say the 3rd or 4th toughest..

Which division are toughter? The obvious is the AFC West, which is usually the toughest in the league, it was last year. The Chargers and Cheifs both were better than every NFC East team, the Broncos are contenders for at least a Wildcard just about every year, and this year is no exception

Which other division is tougher? The NFC South. It's a no brainer, especially with the Saint's offseason, and the Bucs emerging stars Williams and Simms. This division will probably be the toughest in the league, tougher than the AFC West. Carolina and Atlanta will be just as tough this year as they have been, I'm not really a fan of Atlanta, I think Vick is totally overrated and he'll never win a superbowl but he is still good at best, they have a great O-line and their defense is pretty good, Carolina is the no-brainer.. New Orleans will be the team to watch this season, depending on how well their defense plays, they will have a high power offense will Brees-Bush-McAllister-Horn-Stallworth all on the feild, anyone who says that isn't sexy is a fool..

After those two I would say the NFC East, I hope the Eagles do well because I like Donnavan McNabb, especially after the entire TO debacle.. I dislike the Cowboys but I think they'll win the division.. Sheli Manning will fail to make the playoffs cause he is an overrated piece of trash who can't throw an accurate pass to save his life (The Panthers MURDERED 'em) That was highly enjoyable, however Tiki, the man, Barber will lift then into 2nd with a wildcard spot that they'll just lose anyway

So if I had to rank em..some can go up or down

1. NFC South
2. AFC West
3. NFC East
4. AFC North
5. NFC West (I'm putting my faith in Arizona like I did last year, they got Edge so hopefully they'll do SOMETHING this year)
6. AFC East
7. AFC South
8. NFC North (no brainer)

Who will win each division?
NFC East - Cowboys
NFC North - Bears
NFC South - Aints or Panthers (Both will make playoffs, easy schedules - The last game of the season will decide who gets 1st place)
NFC West - Seahawks

AFC East - Patriots
AFC North - Bengals
AFC South - Colts
AFC West - Chargers (I'm putting my faith in Rivers, I'm still a mega-chargers fan, even though they gave Brees the boot, they're schedule last year was HARD and they missed the playoffs by a game they should have won, they're schedule this year is a lot easier)

Well I think The AFC South is just horrible, the Colts aren't going to be as good as last year and you have the Jaguars, Titans, and Texans who have made no progress whatsoever, Texans probably did the dumbest thing ever by letting Reggie Bush go.. No one would argue against the NFC North being the worst, the best team has a horrible offense, the Packers, Lions, and Vickings are all teams either in transition or limbo, therefore the AFC East is no where near as bad as the other two, plus the Dolphins may be better than they were last year, they made a mistake taking Culpepper over Brees, Culpepper is washed up, the Jets and Bills still suck..so the AFC East has the Pats and the Dolphins who are contenders, they only missed first place by 2 games the other 2 divisions have only 1 team

Yeah it makes sense when you break it down like that. But I still dont think that the Dolphins can even compete with the Pats at all. I dont think (despite reports) Culpepper will be able to make it this year, surgically replaced knee or not.

And I hate playing Devil's Advocate, but I'm not counting the Jets out yet. I wouldn't be surprised to see Clemens out there, as apposed to Pennington, or Bollinger..and whoever the other guy is. Hold on.......Ramsey.

How do you feel about Parcells?

Loved him at first, like everyone else in Dallas. Now he's just kind of getting old. If it doesn't happen this year for him, it ain't gonna happen for the 'Boys. He seems to be trying for the quickest fix every year, which is going to hurt us in the long run. But I do think he's still a great coach when it comes to gameday. And I wasn't excited at all about having Bledsoe here, but like you said, he proved us wrong. Nevertheless, he's still a statue in the pocket so the offensive line has to play well for Dallas to do anything this season.

As for our wounded safety Keith Davis, I'm thinking that he's hiding something about the whole incident. On the 911 call played on the news yesterday, he couldn't describe anything about the shooter, just that his car was blue. The whole thing seems fishy to me. I figure he just doesn't want to be on Parcells bad side, so he's playing the innocent victim. He was probably in some altercation prior to the shooting, and just does not want to get cut again by ol' man Parcells.

OK. Didn't realize you were a Patriots fan. I can respect that, and I even like 'em a bit myself. You've got Tom Brady at the helm, and he's a Michigan Wolverine, which is my main football team. ;)

Maybe we can start actually discussing football now and refrain from the general 'hate' comments. Let's start with the rookies. Which rookie QB do ya'll think will actually get some PT this year? I figure Vince Young will get in there pretty quick, since Volek is the starter. Not that he's horrible or anything, but it's only a matter of time there. Clemons at the Jets or Leinhart at the Cardinals might also get a shot this season.

Just read your comments Czar, and you were the one who called out the Cowboys as the '# 2 douchebag team' after I responded to a question about Parcells. I believe that means that you began the hatred pal. I didn't brag about the past until you decided to start ripping on the whole Dallas organization for no reason, other than your personal opinions. And yes, you're entitled to your opinion, I would just rather hear about actual football and not why you hate the Cowboys. And yeah, TO is a douchebag and Jerry is a ruthless businessmen, which makes him a douchebag too just like every other corporate exec. And most of the time I too hate Parcells, but you have to admit he's a pretty damned good coach.

Anyway, Leinhart does have a good shot in Arizona. Lord knows they've got a couple of great receivers he can throw too. And with James in the backfield, they should be pretty set. Warner's pretty washed up anyway, so I figure Leinhart will be in there by Week 6.

Who will win the AFC?

As for the team that will challenge Indianapolis for a shot at the Super Bowl, most people will go with the New England Patriots or Broncos as the obvious choices. But here's just a hunch that, only a year after Bill Cowher finally broke his Super Bowl jinx, good friend Marty Schottenheimer leads the Chargers to the AFC title game and gives the Colts all they can handle in a classic playoff game.

That ain't happening. :p I missed almost all of last football season so I don't intend to miss a damn thing this year. Which also means I'll be camping out in here a lot and, if you can't tell, I backread everything I miss. ;)

...and yes, that also means to keep the fighting and name-calling out of here.

Can't wait for preseason to start, just over two weeks till KC takes on the Texans. :w00t:

I'm going to be high up (I'm essentially now a poor college student), but I'm at one of the endzones so that will be awesome. I'm going to be living in Denver, so I'll get to see my favorite football team in action against a great team. And plus, it will be my first football game. Although I wish I could have gone to Broncos-49ers game, since they're actually going to be playing each other in the regular season for once and they're my two favorite teams. GAH. But I can't, since I'll be back in California during that weekend. Oh well. I'm so excited!! Plus, the game is 4 days after my 18th birthday, so it's like a birthday present to myself. :boogie:

Are you a UT fan? I went to A&M, so I do have some love for the Chargers. They've got two Aggies in the defensive backfield (Kiel and Davis). Davis has fallen off due to injuries but I think he's still got a chance at a decent career. I think Kiel will continue to be a solid safety.

Edit: Nevermind. Looks like Davis is now a Niner. At least Kiel's still on the team.

About Jammer, he was pretty amazing when he was at Texas. I always thought he could be a star corner in the NFL. I read that he was thinking of switching to free safety, which would probably be a better position for him. If he makes the switch he could have more of an impact. Was a starting corner at the end of last season?

I root for UT when they're playing an out of state team but my son's an Aggie. They haven't done much lately so hard to get excited about.

I was surprised when Jammer went 3rd in the draft and I was cringing when he was negotiating so hard as a rookie. I kinda think it's not smart for a team to pay so much for a corner, but what do I know?

Good to hear! It has been difficult rooting for the Aggies lately, but make sure you follow them this year (odds are they're bound to have a winning record). They could actually be decent and have a shot at the Big 12 South, with the new QB McGee (not that I didn't love Reggie McNeal, he just tended to be very inconsistent).

As for UT, not so hard to root for. They dominate A&M in nearly every men's sport. But, at least the Aggies have a basketball team now. :)

I kinda think it's not smart for a team to pay so much for a corner

I agree. Good defensive backs are very important, but as a whole squad and not just the individual. Many teams tend to overpay young corners or get desperate during free agency and spend too much on a vet.

I think it's a little bit of Brett Favre getting old and a little bit of the Packer's lack of depth. They're defense is pretty ugly as well.. If he was on another team I think he would do better but I don't think he would win, not anymore, maybe 2 years ago.. He can't get a rhythm going anymore, this should be his last season

True, good point. Isn't the offense made up of mostly freshmen and rookies? I feel sorry for the guy that this has to be what he's gonna go out on, a low point like this. And it's not like it'll be just a low point for this season, either.

Heck I just think it's remarkable that people in the UK watch football. I thought it was basically soccer or nothing over there. :D

I'm not sure, but I think there'd be some way you can atleast get live updates of the games online. I believe my BF uses one for fantasy football.

Dolphins were way overrated this year, Dante Culpepper is okay but he isn't Super Bowl worthy, especially his first year with a new team, the Steelers showed why they were Super Bowl champs, especially their defense, the dolphins just seemed to get worn out by the end, not conditioned as well as the steelers

I'm lovin my fantasy team, I got Gates AND Gonzalez:

QB - Palmer
QB - McNabb
WR - Galloway
WR - Horn
RB - Tomlinson
RB - Dillion
TE - Gates
TE - Gonzalez
K - Tynes
K - Stover
DEF - Chicago
DEF - Dallas
D - Terrence McGee
D - Merriman
DB - Polamalu
DL - Arrington

BN - RB Addai
BN - WR Stallworth
BN - QB Rivers
BN - DEF San Diego

Polamalu got me 7 pts, I'm playin against Culpepper and Chambers, together they only got 5.3 pts lol

True, true. After losing DB Ty Law, and now LB Willie McGinest is gone, not to mention LB Tedy Bruschi being hurt, their defense is looking kinda sad. Im just not sure if trading one of their few offensive play makers for a first round pick was such a good idea. They lost WR David Givens too. Brady wont be much good if they dont have anyone left to catch the ball.

Police: T.O. tried to kill himself

By JAIME ARON, AP Sports Writer
September 27, 2006

AP - Sep 27, 10:26 am EDT

DALLAS (AP) -- Flamboyant Dallas Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens tried to kill himself by overdosing on pain medication, even putting two more pills into his mouth after a friend intervened, according to a police report obtained Wednesday.

The report said Owens was asked by rescue workers "if he was attempting to harm himself, at which time (he) stated, `Yes."'

The Dallas police report said the 32-year-old Owens told his friend "that he was depressed." Details of the police report were first reported by WFAA-TV. Police scheduled a news conference for later Wednesday morning.

The friend, who is not identified in the report, "noticed that (his) prescription pain medication was empty and observed (Owens) putting two pills in his mouth," the police report said. The friend attempted to pry them out with her fingers, then was told by Owens that before this incident he'd taken only five of the 40 pain pills in the bottle he'd emptied.

According to the police report, Dallas Fire and Rescue was called regarding someone "attempting suicide by prescription pain medication." Officers arrived to find Owens being stabilized by ambulance workers, who then took him to Baylor University Medical Center.

I was just saying that to someone else. I really dont care if it the longest suspension ever. It's not enough.

I think charges need to be brought against him, but they probably wont. Gurode will probably be afraid of rocking the boat that much.

I'm kinda glad I missed out on internet and TV this weekend as the Chargers couldn't finish the game and lost :(

Everyone hear about what Haynesworth did? Stopped on a guys face after ripping off his facemask. Well he got some brownie points from me because not only did he apoligize, he refused to appeal the 5 game suspension. He took responsability for his actions. That never happens in sports, politics, and many other things. Too bad other people can't do the same like Zidane.

Chargers need to give old Marty Schottenheimer the boot. Martyball is killing one of the best teams in the NFL. If you have the lead by only 6 points you go for the throat, you dont just keep running the ball! Idiot..no wonder he never has won a damn thing.

That is HUGE, I have to say, to not appeal. It's practically unheard of, though I did hear the union guy was gonna appeal on his behalf, but haven't heard any more about that. But there's something really wrong with him. Reminded me of that scene in American History X (awful movie, don't see it) where the bad guy stomps a guy's head into the concrete and kills him. *shudders* It was awful.

We all know the falcons are taking the bowl this year.

Agreed. I said it after their playoff loss to the Jets 2 years ago. He's the reason they lost that game, they played conservatively and the Jets were allowed to come back because of it. With all those weapons on the offense there's no reason they shouldn't be able to put up 40+ points a game. Marty needs to change his game plans after they take the lead or he's out.

He's not going to change the way he calls games because he feels that he is doing something right still. I saw him doing a post-game interview this last week after they lost to the Ravens and a reporter asked him about it and he took offense and said that he called the game the best way he saw fit. Stubborn is what he is.

No doubt. And he does win a lot of games, just not the close ones he should. I think if he had Brees in there they would have won it cause he knows what Brees can do and chances are he's not gonna blow it.

Okay, are we in an alternate universe! Titans are beating the Colts! Colts finally got a TD with 6:13 left in the 3rd.

Edit: Where are all my NFL homies??!!! They mentioned Amard Hall of the Titans a little while ago. He is from my town and played high school ball with Quentin Jammer of the Chargers. They both went to University of Texas.

Edit 2: Well, the Colts pulled it out. Gilbert Gardner of the Colts is also from my town and played with Amard and Quentin in high school, but Gilbert went off to Purdue. Gilbert and Amard were playing on opposite sides of the ball today. Hee! Angleton Wildcats RULE!

Next on the NFL: Cowboys v Eagles

87 yard touchdown! eagles by 3!

WOW a FG to tie then McNabb called a flea flicker for a 45 yard TD, eagles by 7 now!

Edit: Dallas is driving they're on the 40 yard line, just converted a 4th and 4. Need a score to tie it. They only have one time out. One hell of a game!

Edit: 4th and 18, takes 2 sacks in a row with only a 3-man rush lol.. 44 seconds, last play of the game

Edit: Good jesus! 1st and goal on the 5. Terry Glen caught the ball. There was pass interference too. 35 seconds, 2nd and goal

Edit: GAME OVER! Litto Shephard INTERCEPTION...TOUCHDOWN!!! EAGLES WIN!

WOW One of the best games I've ever seen.

Hooray!! The 49ers beat the Raiders. I didn't get to see the game and I know it probably wasn't that good of a one, but it's nice to see my other team win. They are definitely the better team of the two (look at their records- SF 2-3 and Oakland 0-4). I'm glad that the 49ers are not as crap of a team as they have been the past two years. I knew they wouldn't completely disappoint their fans this year!

Now I just hope that the Broncos beat the Ravens tomorrow, although it's probably going to be a tough game. And to add to it, it's probably going to be raining, maybe even snowing, tomorrow at the game.

The only reason I care about it is that I'm from the Bay Area. And like I said, the 49ers aren't as much of an embarassment as they have been, although the Raiders are another case.

Associated Press (10/07/2006, 8:30 AM PST)

OAKLAND, (CA) -- Oakland Raiders football practice was delayed nearly two hours today after a player reported finding an unknown white powdery substance on the practice field. Head coach Art Shell immediately suspended practice and called the police and federal investigators. After a complete analysis, FBI forensic experts determined that the white substance unknown to players was the GOAL LINE. Practice resumed after special agents decided the team was unlikely to encounter that substance again.
