Are there any other Sims 2 fans out there? I finally got a copy of the game and I'm loving it. The original Sims was a lot of fun, but I'm finding that this is completely different and more interactive. :w00t:

Yes, my sister bought our copy when it first came out and at first I didn't like it becuase my Sim can die:( .But after playing it, I was hooked. I love it. It's the best game. I wish they would put out more expansion packs. The College expansion pack one was a brilliant one. Open for business was hard for me to get into though.

Yup, I love the Sims 2. I was a fan of the first Sims, but I like this one a lot more. I like all the interactions and all the extra items. And that they have an aspiration meter and stuff. And I actually do like the life stages even if they die. This may sound kinda mean, but I get bored with playing with the same Sim over and over again.

Yeah, I have a mac, and so the university expansion pack like just came out (I think?). Not sure if nightlife is out yet, could be. But I'm getting those later this week!

Mostly, I just mess with boolprop cheats and make the most twisted storylines ever. It's fun. :D

I didn't ever really have a taste for The Sims 2. The original can't be beaten. The new one is 'too 3-D'.

Aw, that's really sad! I didn't Mac users have it delayed. Why is it delayed??

Boolprop! That is so good. I use it mainly to speed up the pregnancies and 'age transition'. Maxmotives comes in handy as well

I  the sims 2 and the sims. I thought university was the best expansion pack. But I allso enjoyed Nightlife and Open for business, the only problem is it take so long to load the diffrent houses and neigboorhoods.... I get so bored in between.

I haven't had a chance to play it yet, but I own the PS2 version. (My laptop can't handle it else I'd have bought the PC version a while ago)

I'd love to play Sims 2 with the University expansion pack. Maybe one of these days.

tutorials are overrated. ;) I have more fun figuring out the ropes on my own unless after hours and hours of playing I'm still hopelessly confused. THEN I go to tutorials and the like. ;)

I've played Sims and Sims Bustin' Out on PS2, as well as the Deluxe Edition for PC... so I'm hardly new to simdom. I don't expect to have many probelms.

I can't wait until finals are over so I can go home and play it. *sigh*

I agree ^ I can't stand tutorials. But anyways, I LOVED the original Sims and have all the expansion packs. Great game. But I love the Sims 2 also! Unfortuatley I have none of the expansion packs, but all this talk makes me want to check out University.
In Sims 2 I used to make myself and my friends or family and stuff, but my current project is basically recreating all the Losties!! My people actually look a lot like them too XD To me anyways lol

You should definitely buy the expansion packs! THey not only have new neighbourhoods, but they have new objects and hairstyles. It's a really great addition!!

Yeah! On the Sims2 website, you can register your copy and people have actually made the Losties. I swear they're so similar! I uploaded a Kate one and she's so identical! There was a Sawyer one but they emphasised the eyes to make him look evil..

I got the "Open for Business" expansion when I got the Sims 2, but haven't even opened the box yet. After I play Sims 2 for a couple generations, I plan on installing that expansion. Have any of you played Open for Business?

Pauli27
06-13-2006, 12:13 AM
Yeah, I've got Open for business. It takes a while to understand what's going on because the instruction book is very brief. I have only opened a business from my house and have not bought commercial property. The home business part is really interesting for a short time, but I ceased the home business after it became too stressful for my sim. (Or me.) I now don't play the business side. I just play it the way I did before installing Open for business. However, I do like the additional objects, hairstyles. My rating for Open for business? 6/10.

Oh really? I'll check that out, theres a couple characters I couldn't quite capture the look one (Kate being one of them, I guess because shes my favorite I'm being hard to please lol) My Jack is pretty good though lol Thanks for telling me about that.

I reckon University/College one is the best expansion pack personally! It is overall the best one. It's got a great new neighbourhood, a new age (young adult), new objects (drum kit, guitar, bass). When your college sim graduates they also are allowed exclusive new careers (showbiz, natural science, paranormal). it's great!

But if you're anything like me, and you love the objects, get all the expansion packs, they all have new ones.

Yeah, I ended up getting alllll the expansion packs for the original Sims. I'll probably end up doing the same here, I just wanted to know which one to get first XD Thanks for the opinion and info. The new age thing sounds awesome, I didn't even think of them adding something like that!

Yeah, the 'young adult' is an amazing addition. It's a good "fill-in" time between Teenager and Adult. I'm glad you got the expansions packs and my info helped in some way!! It's a great game!

If anyone has nightlife can you say please as i have it and i aint seen a vampire on it yet!!!!!! :(

You serious?? Vampires are usually found in the Nightlife neighbourhood. Get your sim to visit one of the community lots in the Nightlife neighbourhood at night;) . It's always dark there. You usually see the vampires at night time. Just don't get TOO friendly with the vampires, because one of my sims did once and they got bitten!!:giggle: There is no warning that your sim will get bitten, the vampire you get friendly with just bites you when your hanging out with them! There are cure potions you can buy though!

You'll see a vampire! They're not hard to miss!;)

I got a tip from EA games that having your sim eat cheesecake before "Try for a baby" may result in twins. Is that true?

Pauli27
06-17-2006, 03:31 AM
I've heard of that one, but I have not tried it. Many people on the Sims2.com forums believe the cheesecake way is the best way.

I always get twins when my sims have the same aspiration (ie: family + family)

Yeah, I have, I think we have mentioned it in earlier posts of this same thread. If you register your copy of sims at EA Sims2 website, you have access to downloads of sims people have made.

A simple search reveals all the Losties have been made! It's really weird some of the ones that have been made, they're so identical. I had a Sawyer one and he looks evil because his eyes and brows are emphasised.

The worst thing about The Sims 2 is the time it takes to load up.
I have all the Sims 1 expansion packs, I paid about £100 for all of them
and now i can't use them which is kinda annoying.
im thinking of uninstalling the sims 2 for a bit then putting all the old ones back

but the Sims 2 is fun to make people cause its more realistic

my fave expansion pack for the sims 2 would be uni, cause its the only one ive got, heh

and my fave for the sims original would be superstar <3
but i love the music in hot date....

oh and on holiday is ace

as is unleashed...

i didnt really like makin' magic, its a bit weird...
house party is cool, and so is livin large, god i ahve to install the old one again!

Iv got Uni and Nightlife but I never play them cause my computer isnt very updated and it takes long enough to just play the Sims 2 original game, but I like having the expansion packs installed cause of all the extra stuff on them.
And I have lots of downloaded content too, it makes the game funner.

Realy? It doesn't take that long for me, if you have a lot of custom content it can take longer to load, try placing the custom content on a diferent hard drive then TS2 (if you can)

A good website for custom content and mods is http://www.modthesims2.com/

I absolutely LOVE The Sims 2! It's the only computer game I play. I used to play The Sims but I like Sims 2 a lot better. I unfortunately don't have any of the expansion packs as of yet but I plan on purchasing Sims 2 University when I have time.

bashveank

I think that the uni is pretty pointless... not that it's not a good expansion pack, but the university itself isn't that fun.

Pauli27
06-18-2006, 11:15 PM
Really? Wow, this expansion pack is my favourite and best one. If not for its "gameplay", but for the additional features, ie: objects, age and jobs. What don't you like about the uni/college expansion pack??

bashveank
06-19-2006, 12:01 AM
Oh I absolutely adore the expansion pack, just not the university itself, young adult is a great idea, but it's a lot more fun to play adults or teens, plus young adult is too long a phase, it gets pretty boring after 3 generations have passed and and my sim is still a freshman. Dorm life is pretty nice though, it's that pesky studying 24/7 thing that brings it down.

Pauli27
06-19-2006, 12:04 AM
Oh yeah, i feel young adult is too long. There's like 4 different phases! Most have mine have dropped out or have influenced other people to do their schoolwork:giggle:

I was so excited when my bro bought The Sims 2 and we unloaded the first Sims game and started to download The Sims 2. It took us about 10 minutes to do it. So, when we started to play, it was soooooo slow! When we went to one of the neighborhoods to look for a house, it took forever because it was slow and we started to get so frustrated with it when we finally got to actually play with it.
My bro was so peeved that he unloaded it and downloaded the first Sims game. I'm much more happy with it, unless someone has a solution for it.

are you sure your processor is fast enough for the game? The whole reason I don't have the PC version is cuz my laptop's processor is far too slow for it, and thus would make the game run like that.

You need pretty high system requierments to run the sims 2.
When I first bought it I played it on my aunties computer and she has a awesome up to date computer and it ran awesome.
I got home and tried to install it on mine and it was impossible I didnt have the proper system requierments.
I had to wait a year until we got a new computer to play it at home and even now the game runs slow sometimes and the graphics aren't great.

Yeah, you're right. My bro's computer isn't exactly up-to-date and neither is this computer that I'm using for the internet. I found out that they have a version for GameCube and I read the reviews on Amazon.com and its been getting some bad reviews because you're not allow to get married or have kids in that verison which sucks.
It looks like I have to stick with the first verison of the Sims (which I don't mind) and wait to get a updated computer or not, lol.

Not a cheat, but a secret thing you unlock. Let me try and explain!

As you know there are the ASPIRATIONS: Romance, Fortune, Popularity, Family and Knowledge (and Pleasure for those who have nightlife expansion).....Well, there is a Grilled Cheese Aspiration where your aspiration is all about the meal: grilled cheese!:giggle: You get points for eating grilled cheese, talking about grilled cheese etc!!

To get this Grilled Cheese Aspiration, you have to have the ORB object. That object is that big round thing from your aspiration prizes your sim can use to change their aspiration. If you use this when your aspiration level is green or below it, then your aspiration will change to the Grilled Cheese aspiration.

Pauli27
07-10-2006, 07:06 AM
Yeah, the Social Bunny comes when your Sim's "social need bar" is low! I felt so bad when that happened to me. So when the social bunny comes your sim can do most of the interactions with it until your sim regains a little bit more on their "social need bar".

At the risk of sounding completely stupid I probably shouldn't ask this but:

Do you need the original Sims game in order to play the Sims 2? I have the original except I lost the packet when I got a new computer so I couldnt install it as I didnt have the activation code, my friend gave me theirs but now it wont seem to start installing at all, I cant even click install, all this nonsense about the scanner comes up ... anyway, babbled a bit there, so can I?

Oh and I love it, I played it at a friends once, the children are so much cuter in the Sims 2!

:w00t: you don't? fantastic!

Well when I click install it comes up with a message saying "you're scanner is not properly connected". So I plugged it in then I tried again and it said "please click scan" so I didn't and it was scanning something for about 15 minutes and finally said "could not be scanned".
what does it need to scan anyway?

bashveank
07-10-2006, 02:18 PM
Scanner? that's strange, try installing from the setup.exe file on the CD, if that doesn't work try uninstalling your scanner from add/remove programs in the controll panel and from the device manager (right click My Computer and click Manage)

I did that with the original Sims. This time around, the only familiar part in my game is that I've simulated my own family. I actually got a little choked up when my baby Brianna suddenly turned into a child, then a teen, and is now just a few days away from being an adult. *sniffle* They grow up so fast... :giggle:

I know, it's so sad that they die:( One of my teens ran away from home. I just wanted to see what would happen -game wise- if my teen didn't go to school, picked fights with its siblings and parents and snuck out at night.

If you use this when your aspiration level is green or below it, then your aspiration will change to the Grilled Cheese aspiration.

i know it's a couple of pages behind, but thanks! i'm really gonna have to try that some time.

Can anyone tell me if there is a [working] vending machine available for download and use in Open for Business? I've been looking around for one, but not having much luck.

Hey I've got a question... Someone has Lost skins for Sims?? Can you send me a link to some web page to download them...? thanx a lot! bye bye :D

I have only used the official Sims 2 site for Sim skins and the like. http://thesims2.ea.com/exchange/search.php?view=new&search=1&asset_type=sim

Just do a search in the "Find a Sim" box for "Lost" and a whole heap of Losites are there! Or for specifics, just do a search for eg: Sayid and there are about 4.

Can anyone tell me if there is a [working] vending machine available for download and use in Open for Business? I've been looking around for one, but not having much luck.

No, I have never come across a vending machine! Can you tell me more? Wow. So is it something people have created? Or is it included in Open For Business. Wow.

In the original Sims, I had downloaded a Pepsi vending machine at the Sims Exchange at EA's website. I've not been able to find one for the Sims 2. People have made vending machines by tweaking the appearance of refrigerators, but they don't work. Your sims can't buy food or drink from those. They're strictly for decoration. I want a working one like I had on the original version of The Sims and I'm not having any luck at all. It would make things so much easier if I could give my sims a vending machine for snacks while they work or shop. I guess I'll just have to stick to making break rooms equipped with a fridge for staff.

Yes that's right. www.sims2.com the official site has released stills of the new Pets expansion pack. Our Sims can now have pets just like in Sims 1.

Are you all excited?? I couldn't control them in Sims 1 but I'm ready for them this time! It says it is coming "this Fall" which is you Autumn, which means Spring for me (as I am in the Southern Hemisphere..). Yey!

Oh well, serves me right for using this one when there's a shiny new one ten feet away

Anyway they were all at http://www.modthesims2.com/ you can find almost anything there.

You get a helicopter by reaching the top of the "Business" career (Business Tycoon). However, you can't operate the helicopter:( . It just picks you up to go to work and drops you off from work. It's a little fun addition though.

I used to think that university was the best expansion pack. But these past weeks I am starting to LOVE nightlife. I have them all of course.

Have you all heard about the new Pets expansion pack (http://thesims2.ea.com/) coming out soon?

I've got all the expansions and really looking forward to Pets!
One thing I'm a bit worried about though is having pets on the same bar as sims. You can only have 8 people in a family (and I think that they should raise it to 10 anyway) and having large families with lots of pets and kids is going to be impossible. Perhaps they could have a seperate bar for the pets, maybe on the left hand side of the screen, opposite to the human sims bar on the right side.
I think nightlife is the best expansion too - and sims Vampires are sooo great :D

I have to confess that I´m addicted to (playing and creating custom content for) Sims. I even created an LOST Neighbourhood, with all them characters).

Pets was indeed a funny expansion (though not as enjoyable as Nightlife, at least for me) and I agree with whoever said University was a disappointment, pretty pointless.

I have the Holiday one and to be honest, it's quite pointless. It just gives extra items that can probably be downloaded for free off some fansite. I guess if you like writing Sim-stories using photos taken in the game then it would be quite nice for a Christmas-themed chapter, but I haven't properly used any of the items in game play.

I was looking forward to Pets making me really like The Sims again, but after a week or so of playing on it I got quite bored with it. I think Nightlife definately added most to game play, followed by OFB even though I'd say that one is a bit more complex and complicated than any other expansion pack there has been for The Sims.

I am bringing this topic back to life! I was an avid fan of the Sims way back in the day and then an avid fan of The Sims 2 when it came out. I bought all the expansion packs and I played the original, University, and nightlife. I bought Open for Business, but rarely played it b/c I got caught up in school and work and other stuff....I played those games sooooo often before that though. It was ridiculous. I was obsessed. I havn't played in a very long time so I think I need to purchase Pets and then I need to get Seasons when it comes out so I can start playing again...even though I don't have time...oh well it's soooo much fun!

Hey! :waves:

I´ve been an original Sims fan for a long time, although it´s been a while since I played it last time. I have a few questions and I´d be very grateful if someone could help me :eyes:

a) I have original Sims version till Sims Unleashed (including that one). I was wondering how many more games after that one have been released and in which order? I know for MakingMagic and Superstar, but i´m not sure which one of them came first.

b) I´ve been trying and trying, but I couldnt install Sims2 game on my PC. Well, I could install it, but I couldnt play it. My friend told me it´s because my memory was too low. So, I thought about delating original Sims to clear up some space and install Sims2. But, I´m not too experienced around computers, so...would that help? And...is it worth deleting Sims to get Sims2?:p

c) How many games of Sims2 have been released? And, again, in which order?

I really really miss playing those games, so...if anyone can help... :please:

haha i also used to be so addicted to the sims. i have bought all the expension packs of the sims 2 and whenever their is another one released i still buy it, even though i don't play it anymore. their was a time i played hours a day, but now i just got too much work for school + my obsession with lost is much bigger, so all my time goes to that. i do have two younger sisters who still play sometimes, so it's not like we buy it and it just lies there. We recently bought something now, it's called "face factory" and you just have to make a picture off yourself, put it in the game and then you can make yourself as a sim. well, it should, we still haven't figured out how it works exactly.

my last project i made on the sims was the lost island :D combine your two obsessions, it's very funny :p i made a new town and then i made al the charachters from lost (well, not all of them, but the most) and then i made the differend parts of the island, the beach, the otherville, the jungle... but i never got it finished, cause school started again and now i don't have any time anymore... + i'm getting too old to play it :p

Do you have multiple drives? Try placing the CD in some of the other drives.

Or you could just search for a Sims 2 no-cd patch, even if you don't need one, at least it'll keep your CDs from getting scratched.

If those don't work you probably have a bad installation, try reinstalling it (but first COMPLETELY remove it, as in, even after running the uninstaller, manually delete My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2 as well as Program Files/EA Games/The Sims 2. Then open regedit (through the run dialog) and delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/EA GAMES/THE SIMS 2)

If that doesn't work you're CD is probably bad, you should be able to take it back to the vendor for a replacement, or possibly mail it to EA for a replacement if you registered it.

EDIT: I have only 1 disc i didnt buy it, but my friend burned it for me - it couldnt fit on cd, so she saved it on dvd.

 Stealing's bad kids, this is why publishing studios have to put copy protection on their games and endlessly screw over the consumers who purchased the game legally.

Try cleaning it. If it's got mega scratches then there are kits to get those off too.

You can take it to a computer store to have it refinished if it's really scratched up.

I'm a Sims addict! My cousin introduced me to the original about 8 months before the new one came out and I basically did nothing but play the game for days. I still do that though; I take a break for about 2 weeks and then I'm obsessed for a few days. When I'm really into it I can play for hours into the night and not even feel myself getting tired.

I've done the Lost characters a few times, usually just as the characters living in a regular neighborhood, but I'm currently attempting an island neighborhood. You can't choose to make your sim sleep on the ground or go to the bathroom in the 'jungle' so I let them have cheap beds, toilets, etc., but pretend that it's just cushions and various things they found :D. I've found a lot of ways to play it the 'island way' even though there are separate lots and sims need electricity to survive.

Although, it's a little disturbing when you accidentally let SimSawyer and SimSayid get their relationship score too high, and they start having a pillow fight :blank:

The Sims 2 = Awesomeness.

I am insanely addicted to this game. It's quite pathetic actually. I have all the expansion packs except for Free Time, which just came out.

Seasons is definitely my favorite EP. I just love the lighting during the different seasons and weathers. So beautiful.

I'm kind of bummed, though, that Free Time is the last expansion pack they're making before releasing The Sims 3.

I'm a Sims 2 addict. Because I actually have Free Time even though it just came out. :o

Now I have all the EP's and a few of the stuff packs, but I already pre-orded the Kitchen and Bath stuff. :giggle:

I love that you can play basketball and other sports. I haven't started any hobbies yet (because real life gets in the way sometimes. lol) But I love some of the extra stuff they have like being able to put a bunch of magazine on a coffee table or adding some office supplies to the desks.

I also like that you can take 3 friends with you when you grow up. So when you make friends with someone has child they grow with you. So you don't have to make all new friends as a teenager.

This game is way to addicting. Although I'm the one that plays for weeks at time then I won't play for months. It's strange. :shifty:
