Hey I was re-watching the series and i noticed that in season 2 when locke goes down the hatch, he finds kate then desmond comes and asks "are you him?". When Locke agrees he then asks him "What did one snowman say to the other snowman?" . WTF??? I haven't heard this mention on here and i thought it mite pay to bring it up but this is definately what he says as i have put the subtitles on and thats exactly what he says! Sorry If You Have Already Discussed This!

Yes it's a code among them so the person in the hatch pressing the button will know when his replacment has arrived.

As soon as desmond arrived in the hatch the guy in there asked him this question. If he got the answer right it would mean he WAS the replacement. Desmond asked Locke because he was in hopes Locke would be his replacement.

We all now know that neither Desmond was the other guy's replacement, nor was Locke Desmond's. ;)

In the first season in Michaels flashback after his accident and in the hospital, he asks the nurse for a good joke to put in his letter to Walt. The nurse gives him the old "What did one snowman say to the other?" humdinger.

Everything is connected, I just don't know how yet.

I remember that! Well remembered biggauge. When i first heard Desmond say that I said to everyone watching, "can you smell carrots" and they just laughed at me. I wonder what that all means?

Didnt Hurley say that joke to Walt in Season 1, leading me to believe Hurley is "Him" as he "openend the box" by using the lottery numbers.
Although, I also believe he doesent know it yet.

haha i have known this joke for years and when des asked locke it i went hyper! theres so many answers to it tho like - smells like carrots, freeze and your snowballs are showing lol

The joke 'What did one snowman say to the other? Smells like carrots' is a joke Dominic Monaghan told the producers in December 2005 (it's a hidden extra on the series 2 dvd boxset). I guess they liked it and thought it would be good to use. Desmond told it to Locke when Des returned in the series 2 finale.

If I remember correctly at the end of Season 2, after Desmond asks this question to Locke yet again he is able to answer him this time and says something back to him, I'm not quite sure what he says but both he and Desmond laugh. What I don't know is how did Locke know what to say back to Desmond this time around if infact this is more than a joke and rather a secret code between those in the hatch?

When Locke meets Desmond again in the season 2 finale...Locke actually asks Desmond what one snowman said to the other?
its only then that Desmond actually tells Locke the answer...then they go on to discuss the hatch and button etc.

Good memory. I knew it wasn't a snowman joke. Just couldn't remember what it was!
