Okay, a quick couple of things before you get started...
Importing/Making Clips:
Say you have some clips or fave scenes, or an episode you'd like to make a clip from on your hard drive, before you can make these a part of your video, you have to import them.
If you already have clips you would like to use...
- Open up Windows Movie Maker
- Select File > Import Into Collections
You'll then be faced with a screen where you can select the clips you wish to import.
Select a clip, then select the 'import' button and you'll notice you clip being imported into WMM and divided into smaller clips (this is okay, it makes it all the easier to make the video exactly the way you want it.).
After it's finished importing your clip, you'll notice it's placed the clip in it's own group in the 'collections' tab. You can see that in the first attached image in this post. [TUT1].
If you have an episode you'd like to make a clip from...
- Open up Windows Movie Maker
- Select File > Import Into Collections
You'll be faced with the same screen as above, only this time you select you episode. It'll take a while longer, because obviously the file itself is much larger. Now, after you've done this you may be thinking:
But the scene i want is split into X number of clips... Don't worry! Select the clip you want and drag it down into an empty space in the storyboard view. Select the next part for that clip, and do the same. Then goto File > Save Movie File and follow the wizard, and it's done! You can then add that clip to a custom collection if you choose to.
Once you have imported your clips, you can begin!
Step 1 - Importing Your Song!
Once you have a song in mind for your video, you import it just like you would with a clip: File > Import Into Collections and select your song.
Step 2 - Adding Your Song To Your Video
At the bottom of the screen you'll notice a button that says Show Timeline or Show Storyboard - depends on what view you are in. If you are in the STORYBOARD view switch to the TIMELINE view. Locate your song that you imported in the list of collections, select it, and drag it onto the timeline. Be sure to drag it to the very begining as you can see in the second attached image in this post. [TUT2].
Go back to STORYBOARD view, and locate your clips in the collections.
Step 3 - Adding Your Clips
Ok! Select each clip you want to use, in order, and drag each one into a blank square in the STORYBOARD view. Now, once you've added a fair amount of clips, you can give it a preview. However, more than likely you won't want to hear the audio from the clips over the song you chose, so go back to TIMELINE view. You'll notice some options on the left: Video (with a little dropdown containing Transition and Audio), Audio/Music & Title Overlay.
Now, it's this Audio section you need to focus on to remove the audio from the clip. Right-click on the section underneath the clip you want to edit the audio for, and make your selection from: Mute, Fade In, Fade Out or Volume. I've highlighted where to do this in the third attached image in this post. [TUT3].
That's pretty much it! You can also add in video effects and whatnot by right-clicking on your clip once it's in the STORYBOARD view and selecting VIDEO EFFECTS.
Odd Hints/Tips:
Filesize:
Depending on the length of your video, and your chosen settings when saving, it may be quite large in filesize. It's a good idea to use something like Real Producer (http://www.download.com/RealProducer-Basic/3000-2189_4-10312356.html?tag=lst-0-1) to convert it.
Auto-Save:
It's quite often that during the video making process, for what could be a million reasons, the programme will freeze up or crash, and you end up losing your video. A good thing to be sure of is to goto Tools > Options and under the 'General' tab you'll find an option for auto-recover. I have mine set to 1min just to be safe.
File Types:
Another thing is, real media files cannot be imported into the programme. Most MPEGs, AVIs and the such should work fine however.
Anyway, i am in NO way a pro at this and i've probably missed/forgotten something... i'm just hoping it's of some help!! If you have ANY questions or some helpful info or tips to add, feel free to reply or send me an email/PM.
I'll work on finding some resource links for you all later :)
Have fun!!
Wow...I finally know how to mute the clip so the music only plays....Thanks!
Question...lets say there is a part where you want to have blank screen for several seconds....how would I make a clip to where it would do that? Do you get what Im saying? lol
Miss Blue
10-25-2004, 02:40 AM
yay!
do you mean like an intro where it fades to/from black?
See....there is a break in the music for like 3 seconds and I want the screen to be blank black during it....its a bit after some music plays. How would I be able to get a fully blank clip?
Miss Blue
10-25-2004, 02:51 AM
hmm, well, for a fully blank one i'm not too sure (i'll check it out) but since it's not a long break, only 3 seconds, you could try this:
right click on the clip before the break, choose video effects and select 'fade out to black' and then right click on the clip after the break and choose video effects but this time select 'fade in from black' -- that may do the trick.
if it's still not long enough, try choosing 'slow down, half' for one of them.
Ok will try....slow down half is that an effect?
Miss Blue
10-25-2004, 02:54 AM
yes, sorry it is :)
its in the same list.
you could also find a clip with a blank bit in it, cut that into a seperate clip (select it, and in the preview pane on the right scroll forward to where the blank bit begins then hit the 'split clip' button which is second from the right -- which creates a new clip in your collections list) and use *that* as your blank, and slow it down.
LOL I so did that! And then I trimmed it to stop right on the beat.
I swear I picked the hardest concept to start out with lol. *face palm*

Great tutorial! I don't have the patience to make vids, so I worship those who can. I'm looking forward to seeing what vid makers come up with for this fandom.
Ok I made one....check the vid thread to view it!
Errr....ok how do I make it into a file everyone can view and how would I go about posting it on this forum??????
Just when i think I finally got this lol....
Miss Blue
10-25-2004, 09:24 PM
is it posted here? or do you need somewhere to host it?
unless you mean it's been saved as a wmv file and you need to convert it..

For future reference, you can insert images as well. So you could create a black .png file (I heard it's better to use .png instead of .jpg in WMM? *shrug*) and adjust the time on it so that it will last as long as you want it to.

What kind of stuff do you need in order to even get episodes on your hard drive??? Because that's my problem! I know how to make videos, but I always have to rely on others for clips!
Miss Blue
10-26-2004, 03:29 AM
thats a good tip Karrie!
TrishaLyn... you need to have downloaded one, or captured it.
Thanks karrie! Nice to know for future reference...
Oh and how do I make it into an mpeg? IS this possible?
Edit: Also wheres a good place to host it..can Lost Media do it? I can send it in an email for now if anyone wants towatch it.
Miss Blue
10-26-2004, 09:14 PM
google search "convert wmv to mpeg" and that should help... i used to have a programme but i have no idea what it was called! :( that's how i found it, though...
Okay. I have some time to kill, and this seems like a fun thing to do. I have a question (for now) -- once I have an episode imported into clips, will it always be there? Or will have I to do this everytime? Cus it says it'll take 20 minutes just to do one episode.

after u have made ur vid u have the option of saving a back up of the clips.

Its there every time. I found that out while planning my second vid. I was dreading the importing...and ya they were still there.

yep they stay there :)
I just spent the past 2 hours making a video, and just accidently hit the delete button. I'm gonna go cry now, because I can't figure out how to UNDO it. *sigh* I hate computers. It was so good, and now it is gone. Just thought I'd share my misery.
OH no! When I was making mine my computer froze and i sat for 3 hours trying to talk myself into rebooting. Well first the program froze and I pmed Miss Blue in a panic lol...does it save automatically?? I asked. Then my computer went. For hours I tried to determine what to do until I said screw it and hit the off button. I share your misery gina...but mine had a happy ending because it did save....but not the last few things I did. Which means there is an auto matic save thingy on there. Any way of trying to see ifit did it for you?
Miss Blue
10-28-2004, 09:38 PM
okay regardless of my slow connection at the moment, i'm trying to browse the board... :)
gina! im so sorry to hear that :( perhaps like mentioned here, it may have autosaved or something?
*hugs* sadly this happens to all of us i think, its a first-time-making-a-video curse or something :(

Oh yes finally a a tutorial on how to make music videos. I have to try to this tommorow thanks so much!
Jenn, nope. Nope autosave for me. I have a different version than the one in the example because mine isn't quite the same as the pictures. Alas, It's gone.
*hugs* sadly this happens to all of us i think, its a first-time-making-a-video curse or something
I hate curses. They suck. LOL
Heh...well look on the brightside. You know what you are doing better now and should be able to recreate it in no time.
I had this happen to me on blends TOO many times to count. I go all the way to the end an my computer goes wacky/turns off/hates me and I loose it ALL!!!! But then I go to recreate it and its even better.
Think positively.....
Ahem okay. I started over and everything was okay until *dundundun!!* it won't save. It just sort of freezes. I swear, if this doesn't work I'm giving up on videos.
Any suggestions?
umm you said you have a different version so I dont know....but are you going to save project as?
HEHEHEHEH! *manical laughter*
I saved it as a project, reopened it and then saved it! It's a bit jump, but hey, it's my first go at it. Now, I must find a place to host it, bwahahaha...

I'm so sad... finally I know how to make music videos, I had some very good ideas about a Charlie video, got the song, got the first clips in visualisation... but that WMM keeps freezing in the middle of the visualisation!!! And then I have to reboot it... so my video can't go on... I just don't understand why this software bugs with my computer... grrr :(
Your not the only one..ive learned to save after every clip I add because WMM likes to freeze randomly.

This may be a really stupid question but..
Where do you get the episode clips to use to make the music vid?
I tried some but it only uses kind that can be opened from Windows Media Player and the ones I downloaded are opened by Real One Player.
Help!
Oh and when it says to look to the left options where it should say video, I dont see that on my screen....help?

Heads up for all you beginning vidders...
I've been working with WMM for about 3 years now, and only certain types of video files will import into it. Real Media files won't because they are protected somehow. Also, anything higher than a regular MPEG won't work, and unless you have certain codecs, there are certain .avi files that probably won't work either.

i've been meaning to edit/update the tutorial with this, which i will later today, because i think there's an auto-save at X amount of mins. option...

Oh, me too. It's odd, though, I did the first minute or so of the vid without it freezing. Luckily I saved for no reason at all a couple clips before it froze. Then for the rest of the time I was working on the vid, I definetely had to save after every clip addition because it froze all the time.

No, you're not looking in the wrong spot. Not many clips are made to be in .WMV format. If you're talking about clips to use in vidding, know that .avi, .mpeg, and .mov files DO import into WMM. Sometimes, you'll need some special codecs to get some working but that's a whole other ball of wax.

Okay. This tutorial was exactly what I've been looking for for a long time, so I thank those of you who came up with the idea and put it to use.
I've made my first ever music video (yay!), but I have no idea how or where to upload it to share it with anyone. Can someone please help me? I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks!

As far as I know, it's not on Windows 98 which my computer has. Thankfully, my dads' new computer has WMM and I'm gonna try to make one right now on it.
Here's hoping it works!

save as movie file... I think in most other programs it says render.
go to save as movie file then pick a size you want it usually its starts at 56 mbs or something lower it some I usually save it at 14 but depending on the avi quality of the episodes you can save higher or lower also you may want to consider the webspace you have if you don't have much it may be better to save at between 6 and 10 I wouldn't save lower than 6 or the quality would be unbearable.

Thanks for the tutorial, it really helped! I didn't even know I had a movie maker until I read the tutorial and decided to look for it.
I'm doing pretty good on my first music video. I just have one problem. I want the beginning of the video to have the sound of the clip playing over the music, and the rest just with the music. But when I use the audio levels thing, it makes the entire video either the music playing over the dialogue of the clip, or vice versa. How do I change the audio levels for just one section of the video?

if you view your project in 'timeline' mode instead of 'storyboard' mode, you can right-click underneath your selected frame (the one you wish to mute the audio of) and choose the 'mute' option.
i'm going to get right on making a resource list tomorrow if i get the chance for you all :)

Because see I have a clip that I want you to hear and see before the music starts and then once it starts the clips need to be muted so how do I do that?

Go for it vidders! I just wanted to say thats awesome, and I actually made my first video "art piece" on Movie Maker. Make sure you get it all cherried out though, Microsoft.com always have some new free downloads for it. If you get MM2, you get more transitions etc. My program now (Power Director 3) is really cool, but I really like Movie Maker for the fact that you can view the audio profile, and on mine you cant which makes editing the sound kind of difficult. Just FYI.

October Sky:
I also use clips from the internet and if they don't already work in the program you're working with, you'll have to do one of two things.
One, find a program that can convert the video to the format that Imovie will allow. The problem with this is finding a decent and free program, and also the rendering time. It takes A LONG time for this to be down.
Or two (and this is what I recently started doing and it seems to work pretty good), if you have a video output on your computer, run the output into your digital camcorder, then feed that back into the computer. If that doesn't make sense, then don't bother cause it's too much of a headache to explain.
But good luck.

You either have to import them from your VHS tape using a VCR and a digital camcorder, or you'd have to download individual clips from various websites (see resources thread just below this on the Creative main page), or you have to download full episodes from file share programs such as Kazaa or Sharaza or Torrent websites. The latter of which you'll typically have to convert because they typically don't work well in some video editing programs.

If you're someone who doesn't have your own webspace, like me, you can use www.yousendit.com... it's easy and free, but temporary... it'll save your video file for up to seven days and it'll give you a link to put in this forum so that everyone can connect to it and download it. It usually works pretty well. Hope that helps.

Thank you for the reply. I do have webspace, but it's just a free hosting service, and I actually did try to upload a video to it but it apparently will take quite awhile for someone to download from there.

Another thing with Yousendit... after 25 clicks (meaning 25 people who clicked on the link to download it) it stops working.
This is a great thread. It's nice to have posts like this. Too bad I didn't come to this board sooner when I first found out about WMM. It'd been so helpful with this post so I didn't make crappy videos.
But after a while I got the hang of it. But this tutorial really helps me out in other ways I didn't know about.

I also have a question. How do you make it so one clip fades out and the other clip shows up, but you can still see the other clip (a little anyway) over that one? Any of that make sense? If not...
So like, The first clip is still playing over the clip next to the first one and you can see both playing at the same time and then the first starts to fade away some more until you can see the second one more clearly. I hope you can understand what I'm talking about...

First let me thank you all for this tutorial on musical videos.
I have 2 problems. I use Win Me (tried Win XP but had major problems and went back to Me) and I have Win Movie Maker 1. I can't install WMM 2 because it says it will only work with Win XP. :(
Win Movie Maker 1 isn't really very good, doesn't have effects, etc... plus it loves to NOT let me save after I created the entire storyboard. I really can't count on it.
So my question is... any OTHER software to suggest ? Even the expensive ones, a friend of mine has many video editing software and he would let me install on my PC if I ask. But he doesn't do musical clips so he has no idea which one I should use. Any suggestions ?

I'll ask my friend if I can borrow these 2 softwares to try them out. I am a dedicated student and I hope to get the hang of both. :)

Hi!
Yes. On Movie Maker 2 for XP, there is a way to do that.
1) Select the clip you want to take audio out of.
2) Click "Clip" on the top menu bar.
3) Then click "Audio".
4) Then click "Mute"
And just repeat the steps, for as many as you want.
I hope this helps! :)

Hi Lost_with_Jack89!
I'm not sure if you were hitting 'Save Movie File.." or 'Save Project.." but click one that says something like "Save Movie File". It will save it in the desired directory as a WMV (Windows Media Video file).

Click EXTRACT ALL FILES and they will not be zipped anymore.
If you have Windows Movie Maker the lost-media clips might not work anyway though, I am having some trouble with the file type they use.
But if the file is .WMV then extracting the files will definately work.

Anyone have any luck getting clips to show up in your timeline using Adobe Premiere? I've been successful importing the clip into the project but can't get the video to display in the timeline. I'm using the .avi LOL clips encoded in XVID. If I double click on the file it plays fine in a preview window but when I drag it into the timeline I only get black (no video). Tried a number of different project settings but can't get anything to work, and most times Premiere crashes.
I am (by trade) a professional video editor, so I'm pretty good at making things work in video editing programs but this has me stumped and frustrated. I wish I could do this on my Final Cut system on the Mac but the codec isn't supported (and I don't feel like converting all the movies to .mov), so I'm stuck on the PC with Premiere. Tried WMM2 but it crashes more than a drunk in a demolition derby.
Does anybody know the right settings to get these videos to work in Premiere? I could make some pretty good stuff if I could just get it to work.
EDIT: Wooohoooo!!! Found out how to do it after a little research online! This is so simple it's mindblowing. Make a copy of your LOL file (so you don't mess up the original) and simply right click on the file and choose "Rename". Change the extension to .mpg instead of .avi and it works in Premiere! That's all you have to do! Unbelieveable after all the crap I went through. Now to get to work
UPDATE: Microsoft MPEG-4 Video Codec V2 seems to work very well as the codec in the project and export settings. It also compresses well (after you've exported the movie as a .avi from Premiere) in WMM2 into a .wmv. Premiere hasn't crashed at all using this codec, which is a miracle in itself, lol. Unfortunately everything still has to be rendered, because the time base of the video is 23.97 frames/second and Premiere only has a setting for 23.98 frames/second. The rendering doesn't take too long and I don't think there's a way around it.

What format are they? .avi, .mpg, .rm, etc....
You might need to get a file conversion program that will convert them to an acceptable format for WMM. If I knew what format they were in I might be able to tell you more.

Does the mp3 play the song twice?
Your best bet is probably to cut it or get a new download, I've never had that problem. Do think maybe you put it on the timeline twice by accident?

a couple of people (lol... lots) have been asking how to convert files. well, it will take a little bit of downloading to get the job done, so if you're willing... read on!
i am currently using winAVI to make my lost videos (several in progress right now, insperation pending). however, i had to download all of my clips off of lost-media, and as we all know, that saves them as realaudioplayer files, or the equivelent. so i searched on the internet for something that would be compatible, and i found winAVI to convert the files.
go here (http://www.winavi.com/en/download/download.htm) first. Download WinAVI Video Converter version 6.3. "Save" it to your computer. You will have to extract the files you need. Windows XP are automatically loaded with a version of WinZip, so highlight all of the files with your mouse, and then click the link on the left of your screen saying "extract all." A window will pop up, and follow the directions, making sure to TAKE NOTE where the winavi videoconverter folder will be saved.
you have now downloaded your video-converter program. HOWEVER, this is only a trial version, and in order to remove text that will appear in the vid capture, you will have to download something else... if you don't want to pay.
now go here. (http://anycracks.com/?crc_id=306718) you are going to download a PATCH that will figure out the registration key WITHOUT you having to pay. again, extract all of the documents, and now open the folder for the PATCH. there should be four files there. file_ID.diz, icu.nfo, keygen.nfo, and patch.exe.
click into patch.exe. if you have a security program on your computer, a message will ask if you want to open it. click run. the program will open. now, click on the button on the bottom labeled apply PATCH. another window will probably pop up saying that it can not be found, yadda yadda, do you want to find it manually. click yes. now go into your winavi videoconverter folder OR where ever you saved the winavi program. click on the program "winavi.exe."
there is a chance a window will pop up saying it is to large or something like that. just click out of it, and then click the apply PATCH button of the PATCH program. this SHOULD make your winavi program registered.
if you have any problems with this directions or even about WinAVI, ask. i would be happy to answer.
HINT: there are several options to convert your video files to with this program. the choices are: WMV, AVI, DVD, and RM. AVI will NOT WORK with WMM. DVD/SVCD/VCD/MPEG are sort of like a "finalization" process, to be used off a computer in a dvd player, so you won't want to use it for editing. And the files will already be saved as RM's. So obviously, you will just want to convert the files to WMV (windows movie video... or something like that)
cheers!

Well I don't actually know how to make the music softer through one part only but I know how to make a certain clip louder.
So in the timeline if you have enough room, where your clip is you should see a picture of the clip (Video), and then a space then another are below the space (Audio).
Just look to the side of the timeline to get the names(Audio,Video).
Audio is the clip's sound Audio/Video is the music.
Where is says Audio to the right, in the timeline, you should see a white line from the clip.
Right click on the white line of the clip and click Volume.
Adjust the volum meter so that it is up high enough to be heard over the music. You'll have to test it out a few times to get the right volume.
Oh god, I hope that made sense!

Ok, I looked around, but I wuickly realised that to find what i would like to know may take a while.
Anyway,
I only have WMM and I really want to give making a vid a shot, I have the clips I want to use, only they are on my computer as .avi files, I tried importing them into WMM but it said something about a codec?
I have to install something to get it to work...
does anyone know what exactly I need to instal and where I can get it from?
Not 100% sure, as I know next to nothing about WMM, but I think you need a divX player (http://www.divx.com/). I had to DL one of those to watch .avi vids on Windows Media, so it's the first thing that came to mind for me.
Aislynn
02-26-2006, 02:30 AM
Yep, DivX is the key to getting AVI to work in WMM (as well as to being able to watch AVI vids on Windows Media Player). Their codec bundle IS still free, though it's a different set-up now than when I downloaded it last year. You have to take their free trial BUT if you read the instructions on this page -- http://www.divx.com/divx/codec.php -- you'll see that you can uncheck the box for the free trial during installation and you won't have to pay for anything later.
Hope that helps! :p

Hmm... but the thing is, I can already watch .avi files on WMP, oh well, I'll try it anyway, thanks :D
Hi, 've got a question about WMM. When I make my video and want to check how it looks on that little black screen on the right It doesn't work (I can only hear music). However, when I want to see the clips I imported, ( to chose the best one for my vid) it all works just fine and I can see and hear everything that is in the imported clip. So I'm confused, why can't I watch the progress of my work? (The only way I can check what I did is when I do "save the video file" and watch it in winamp or wmp)
Hope you understood me ;)
EDIT: Ok, I've figured it out by myself, thanks anyway ;)

Hi guys,
i am such a beginner at this, but i was wondering....
i am trying to use WMM but, the files i download from various sites automatically save to a program called WINRAR. these files arent supported by WMM. I trying to download a clip from say...joshholloway site. they list the file as a wmv file which is accested in WMM, but the file automatically get saved in WINRAR< and cannot be imported in WMM. anyone know anything about WINRAR? or how i can convert these files into accepted formats?
or...is there another program i can download for free to make videos other then WMM?
thanks in advance :D

yeah, I have the same problem. Only Windows Media clips can be imported to Windows Movie Maker. All the episode clips from Lost-Media are in the "compressed/zipped" format or in realplayer format. Also, I have a few episodes I downloaded from iTunes, and it won't let me import them, either. I'm having a lot of trouble with this, so could someone help me? Thanks.

Ehm... I wanna do some real fast cutting, but it seems there's a minimum time a clip must take in the timeline. Anyway to shorten clips even more???
As for the not-wanting-to-accept-files... that SUX, don't it? However, on Google.com you can enter 'free download convert X to .avi' and you have to browse a bit and you'll find some free try-out converting programs.

WHY in the world does WMM has to crash all the time on me!??!...lol
Help?:(
I tried downloading codecs like divx ...it doesn't help. I adore movie making. And I can't even edit anything without the program just closing. Eek!
If someone out there has a free program I could download and make movies with, please tell me...:o lol..

I currently have Adobe Premiere Pro Elements 2.0 and I am having trouble playing the video and editing the video. When I import a LOST.avi file which I downloaded, it (the preview monitor) will play the Audio fine, but the video is jerky and skips and pauses between frames. This is really akward, so I thought it was the codec, but I looked all over the internet and nothing is fixing this problem. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this issue any help will be greatly appreciated! And if you need more information from me just ask away.
PS: If this belongs in another forum please move it, since I found this the best place to ask since Music Videos and Editing Lost Video Files best fits suit. Thank You

whoa so many questions! lol - im not the best at video making but i'll try and aswer some ...
irelandlover - there's lots of sites to get clips - depending on what clips you want - here are some i use ...
www.watchlost.com
www.jackandkate.org
www.evangeline-lilly.net
www.josh-holloway.com
Jate4ever - what do to import the clips is i open the compressed zip file - and copy and paste the clip into a different file. it takes a bit time, but atleast then you can import the files
*Nette* -IMO- the best software is photoshop if you can get hold of it
soso_lost- yeah it crashes on me too-it sucks:(im not sure if there's anyway togo about it -all i try and do is to click on things a bit slower and give it time to register beforemoving onto the next thing - it's annoying but ...
ok and myown question -lol- how do you place 2 clips on top of each other - not fading - but so that one can play at the side of the other at the same time - if you get me...

There should be an option on the side bar in the window of the zipped file that says "Extract all Files" just walk through that and put in where you want to unzip it to, I think most is self-explanatory.

then go to youtube

You need to put two video tracks on the timeline with each clip then use cookie cutter on the top clip and cut around the bit you want to use then if you click on one of the buttons on the track you can move it around easily without affecting the cookie cutter stuff. It's the track motion button.

a wav file? That is a audio file. If you want to post the video with the audio in it, there is a easy step by step guide in the movie maker. On the left there should be a List that had Movie tasks. If there isnt, go to view - task pane. Now under number 3. Finish Movie, either click Save to my computer, or Send to t he web.
there ya go.

To the *thinks* left of your timeline at the bottom there should be an icon...not quite sure how to describe it, but when you click on it, it will bring up a box that you can slide the sound over to music or your clips, and you would just slide the bar all the way over to music so the clips won't be heard.

Okay I have windows movie maker and I have some Idea of how to use it BUT I have to massssive questions.
1. Does anybody know where to get clips of the actual lost episodes like not already in a music video like the actual scenes... IF YOU DO what site are they on.... Because I have no idea where to get them!!!!
2. Ok I have one clip in windows movie maker. I know that the clip is separated into all little bits BUT... (trying to find words how to explain it) ... I only want a little bit of that clip... Like it is a scene of Jack and Kate and Charlie but I only want the part of the Scene with Jack and Kate.. How do I get rid of the bit with charlie in it... Like how do I extract just that bit with Jack and Kate...
Sorry I am really bad at explaining things If somebody could help me it would be much appreciated!!!!

Yep. Another one from me. Heh.
Windows Movie Maker sort of... doesn't like me anymore. I haven't used it in a while, so it may but I'm not sure. I've deleted a lot of the movie files on my computer (around 30GBs) so that may've been the problem but before, there was a good 30GB free out of about 110GB. Now there's about 60.
Anyway. WMM, when I'm previewing, each time it lines the song up a second or two off than the last time. And that may not be a problem to some but when you're making a movie and depending on the words, it's a huge, huge, huge problem. So.
Does anyone know any video editing things like that? I obviously have a Windows computer, an XP 2004 Compaq to be exact. I know I can't get a good editing program for free; I don't mind.
Please and thanks.
And ugh. I need to change my text and stuff. It's all plain.

well gepending on how much you want to pay there is Avid (really pricey) I think you can download a free thing but it lacks some of the better features or there is Final cut pro similar to Avid and cheaper. I hope this helps. I like Avid oh to have Avid would be heaven.

That is really pricy but I don't know. Maybe I'll see if there's a free trial or something and if that works exceptionally well, maybe I'll save up for it, 'cause I used to do music videos a lot, not to mention get hard to grab pictures for icons with it instead of just pausing and rewinding with a player like I do now. Thanks! (:

Unfortunately there is a serious lack of free movie editing programmes out there. :(
I did do a post at LVI Here (http://lostvideo.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=6321) naming some free movie editors, but nobody has had any luck with getting them to work so far. You could always give one of them a try.
I think the best video editor out there at the moment is Vegas. But it's very pricey, so not too good if you're not looking to spend a lot.
There's also a few cheap Editing programmes Here (http://desktopvideo.about.com/od/softwarereviews/tp/bestinexvdsw_ro.htm)

Most of them are extremely expensive, so having it cost that much... eh. I'm not exactly sure what I'll do, but I'm selling a lot of my old Pokemon stuff from years ago that's been collecting dust in my closet so I might just buy a good video program as I don't have anything else I really need.

If you extract the files, it shouldn't be an issue getting them into WMM, that's what I use and where I get my clips from. Are you extracting them, I can explain how to do that if that's the problem. :)
SKaN0n56

nightskiesfading
10-10-2006, 09:01 PM
I'll use a file from josh-holloway.com as an example ;)
Click 'download now' on the webpage which I'm sure you're doing, and I click 'Open' when that pop up comes up. When that opens, it should have the file on it, but the file still needs to be extracted, so click on "extract all files":
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b291/_gentlycollapse/extract1.jpg
And follow the 'extraction wizard', when it tells you to select a destination, click the browse button, and choose a file folder where you want the clip to go (I usually choose my videos ) Click 'next' and it should do the rest of the work.
After that, in Windows Movie Maker, when you click on "Import Videos" Just find the folder you sent the clip to, and it should be in there. That's what I use with all my clips, and I'm able to use them fine in WMM. Does that help?

Nobody has ever answered this or known this...are you telling me then nobody nowhere knows when i can get MP3 format Lost clips....?

11-06-2006, 11:17 PM
For that...you have to have your timeline showing at the bottom. And then when you drag clips down there, instead of putting it on the video line, put it on the audio line is, where your music should be. :shifty: Hope that was understandable.

well i meant like for example if i wanted the clip of "I Never" to play but i mute the audio for it and instead have the audio of "I love him" play while playing music.i hope that's a little clearer. :p
Ethan's BFF
11-07-2006, 10:09 PM
Okay, well first you'd make sure that the sound is only coming from the audio. Then you'd drag the I Never clip onto the timeline on the Videoline. (The timeline should be divided into 3 sections - Video, Audio/Music, and Title Overlay) Then take the I love Him scene and drag it into the Audio/Music line. Then you have to move it to where it's right below the I Never scene...so that it'll play at the same time.
Hope that explained it a bit better. :shifty:

i've tried doing that but the song that i dragged over to the Audio/Music spot that plays during the whole video keeps pushing the audio for the clip that i want to either the beginning or the end of the song. i can't seem to get the audio clip to be in the middle of the song that's playing.:blank:

This thread is now going to be the official thread for asking specific questions relating to making a vid, to save room from seperate threads being made for every question. So ask all your vid related questions in here, and we'll see it that they get answered for you. Seperate threads asking questions will be locked or moved into here. Thanks guys.
I've moved some threads in here, and I will continue to do so. So if your question thread dissapeared it's not chronologically in this thread.
And I thought I'd offer suggestions to people who have problems with WMM crashing, it will, basically, but there are ways to prevent it. When you're making your vid, after a while there's just too much for it to handle, like if you've got a lot of it done, and you go back to play it all, it will freeze, right? The way around this is to just not play the whole thing through after there's a lot of stuff. When you first start making your vid you can go back and watch the whole thing, but when there's too much information on your timeline, and you go back to watch the whole thing, it will freeze on you. I suggest only watching peices after it starts to get slow and freezing when you go back to play the whole thing. This way you'll be able to get through making the vid without it freezing. It may cause problems getting editing right, but you can always go back and fix that after watching the vid in Real Player or something, just don't watch the whole thing in WMM while you're making it or it will freeze it up.

I hate it when WMM crashes down every 10 minutes or so when Iīm making a vid. I have Sony Vega And Adobe premiere on my comp, but have no idea how to use them LOL. Anyone have experience with those? My first problem is how do I make clips of the whole episode, coz w2hatīs good in WMM, it makes the clips for you.
I have a question about making movies. I wont be doing any for this site--it's a different situation. :p
I've read through the tutorial and looked at WMM a bit, and it looks pretty easy. However, here's my question. I'm doing a slideshow with fancy transitions set to music for my husband's grandmother's 75th birthday party. As long as the pictures I put in the slideshow are high quality, can the movie be blown up enough to show on a screen? Like say, the size of a large television screen. Or is the Movie Maker format a compressed format?

So i find it a piece of cake to add clips to movie maker and edit them but i am completely stuck with adding a track.
Is it even possible to add a song from a CD? I have saved the song to my computer using windows media player but every time i go to import the track into movie maker it says the file is not suitable and something about copy right issues?
Can someone please help me!!!??

I have just completed making a vid, and its 3.06 minutes long and I have no idea how many clips there are (a lot though, I guess) and when I go to save the file as a movie file, the number of minutes it says it will take just keeps rising and rising (like more than 7000 minutes) and doesn't stop, but yet not one percentage has been completed yet. This hasn't happened with any of my videos before and I'm just wondering whether the file is too big or there is something wrong?
ETA: I changed it so there was only one clip, and that worked properly so I guess its just the size now. Is there anything I can do or will I just have to cut down the numbers?

You might have to convert the file to mp3 coz straight copied songs from cd usually are under some copyright protection or so .. converters can be found at www.download.com

for making your vids u can use i movie...only one problem tho...i movie can be very picky when it comes to what types of clips its willing to deal with, without having to convert them first...ther are other progrms u can use but some require 1gb of memory to run effectivly... pm me your system info (in os x click the blue apple and click on about tis mac) and i'll help you sort it out...

If thatīs possible with WMM, I havenīt found it yet. So I highly doubt that.. :(
Has anyone here used Nero Vison for making vids? For me it seems to be just as crash-able as wmm... any experience?

I'm using Windows Movie Maker and I am unable to mute the sound on my clips. I've tried several times, but the word 'Mute' isn't highlighted when my cursor is on it.

Ok I have a "huge!" problem. I made a music video with Nero Vision, so itīs mpeg, and the size of the video is way too large to host at you tube.. so does anyone know how to rezise music vidīs or is that even possible? I did get it to wmm and hopefully saving it via wmm will make it smaller..
