And Sawyer asked for a "little kiss", that was WAY more than that, when I watched the episode I wasn't a Skater yet, I only became one after watching the complete 1st season (which happened in a week) and while I was thinking "wow, that's hot" during the Skate kiss I was also thinking "ok, she didn't have to kiss him like THAT.....and for that long!" She obviously got into it, and as the script said, even tho it didn't have to because it was obvious for everyone who saw it, they both felt something!

Skate. Voted hottest TV kiss for a reason. Cinematically it was shot better, no gimmicky spinning around in a circle, no 'this is meant to be romantic' music, just two people connecting when they least expected it. It didn't need any window dressing because the kiss spoke for itself.

The looks before and right after said it all. They had not expected to feel what they did, and it scared them both. The sock to the jaw was perfect. For me it was the most emotionally charged kiss I have seen for a while. No it wasn't soppy or romantic, but it was real, and compelling. :)

Even though Kate was somewhat forced to kiss Sawyer, she wasn't all grossed out and disgusted by it. She calmly accepted, and once it was happening, you can see both getting lost in the kiss. Those two have the greatest chemistry.

As for Jate, well...since she hasn't slept in days she thought that Jack was Sawyer, and once she realized it was jack, she was like, WTF and ran away.

It had real intense, romantic chemistry behind it, as opposed to the Skate kiss, which wasn't entirely voluntary (and I just don't find blackmail hot or romantic) and doesn't have the foundation behind it. I see Skate as purely physical, whereas Jack and Kate do have the romantic foundation that I think you need to make a relationship work.

Precisely, which is why I wish Jate hadn't kissed then. Jate's kiss should've been so much better and for me it was a letdown, I wanted a Jate kiss with both of them into it and as passionate as Skate's. The weird music blaring and Kate running away afterwards really put a damper on things IMO.

I think Kate was well aware of what she was doing, but the thought of being that close to Jack startled her. She doesn't think she's good enough for him, don't forget. That's a bit misleading though because they're not equivalent moments..You have Skate's kiss immediately after she stops kissing him & Jate's when she's stepped back after some time...

Her reaction following these can potentially be due to the fact that Tom rejected her & made her feel guilty/sorry for kissing him. In the same vain, perhaps she presumed Jack thought it was a mistake when he did not & thus ran off in embarrassment.

In addition, Kate genuinely cared for/loved Tom..She let her walls down & gave into her feelings during an emotional moment. It's plausible that's what happened w/Jack as well.

The topic of the thread is which kiss you like better..there's bound to be discussion as the whole thread reflects..so I thought it ok to give my perspective on the kiss I voted for.

Skate. I think there was a lot of chemistry and feeling behind it, but I preferred it mainly because I liked how it was the spark in the beginning of what was to come in their relationship. How it caught them by surprise, even after the conditions in which the kiss took place, and how the intensity forced Kate to put a lot of effort into pulling back.

However, I may possibly be the only Skater who actually liked the Jate kiss, although obviously to a lesser degree. :o It was intense, emotional, and I really felt for the both of them. I felt so sad, and it was sweet when Jack hugged her, I thought that was a well-deserved moment for them, and I admired Jack a lot for the way he acted towards Kate in her present emotional state of mind.

I'll explain further.. I think it all comes down to the fact that in this present moment in time there are only two kisses to compare. One in episode 8 of season one for Sawyer and Kate, and the other for Jack and Kate in episode 9 of season two. This to me says, quite simply, that there is no comparison to be made. The two couples were in completely different stages to their relationships, so although we can on a basic level say which kiss we preferred, I think the much more interesting comparison would be after a kiss between Sawyer and Kate now, or another time in the future. Where both have progressed to a much more important, emotional and deep phase of their relationship- where a kiss means so much more. Although it may have been intense and showcased a lot about the connection for Skate (IMO) in Confidence Man, we can't ignore how their feelings towards each other then couldn't rival how far Jack and Kate had come by What Kate Did.

But that is a personal opinion.

I'll explain further.. I think it all comes down to the fact that in this present moment in time there are only two kisses to compare. One in episode 8 of season one for Sawyer and Kate, and the other for Jack and Kate in episode 9 of season two. This to me says, quite simply, that there is no comparison to be made. The two couples were in completely different stages to their relationships, so although we can on a basic level say which kiss we preferred, I think the much more interesting comparison would be after a kiss between Sawyer and Kate now, or another time in the future. Where both have progressed to a much more important, emotional and deep phase of their relationship- where a kiss means so much more. Although it may have been intense and showcased a lot about the connection for Skate (IMO) in Confidence Man, we can't ignore how their feelings towards each other then couldn't rival how far Jack and Kate had come by What Kate Did.

But that is a personal opinion.

When the skate kiss happened, they hadn't been in the jungle, or island for very long, so not much emotion, nor feelings were put into it because they didn't know each other too much. The same could be said about skate when problems happen in their relationship, Sawyer outs her as a criminal and humiliates her... she forgets about it, Sawyer cons her and uses her emotion for him against her, she forgets about it, Sawyer does lots of things that are just swept under the rug too. I think that is b/c she has a good friendship and understanding with Sawyer and that is it. We saw how she reacted to Jack in HP..... she was torn and wanted him badly. After Sawyer hurt her it was like nothing happened. Why you ask? b/c with Sawyer she keeps him at a distance. She never lets anything Sawyer do bother her b/c as long as she leaves him at the friend level he can never hurt her.... where Jack she has let down her guard unknowingly and when he hurts her it has an affect. That tells me she has opened up to Jack more. She also misunderstands and cant tell why anyone like Jack would love her after all she has done and has been told by Wayne she does not deserve anything good. So her fear in that moment of how close she got to Jack and Happy and vulnerable caused her to run. Through misunderstanding of Jack seeing Sawyer sayu he loves her and her taking care of her and Jack hanging out with Ana during the war caused her to say she regretted the kiss to finally be done with it. She expected him to agree and for them to move on and think that her feelings were not real. She wanted Jack to agree but he didnt and this shocked her and had mike not interrupted I think we would have gotten another jate kiss. than all the drama happened afterward and now you have more angst.

What have been your personal highlights of this season?

Evi: Kate had so many good moments this year that it's hard to choose a solitary "best". For last season's, it would have to have been delivering Claire's baby. This season? It's probably a much simpler moment but it has the same implications - when Kate told Jack "I'm sorry for kissing you". To me, both of these moments show Kate releasing herself from the psychological shackels of guilt she keeps herself in and standing on her own worth. She is demonstrating that she will be strong and resolute on her own accord - indepndent of Jack - but without putting up, or hiding behind her tough-girl protective mask. That's the ultimate challenge for Kate if she ever wants redemption: to believe in herself and be vulnerable.

Josh: I loved Jack and Kate's kiss. They really captured that moment, how it should be and that's tricky.

I've always found it difficult to compare the two kisses because they were so different, almost completely opposite. They happened at different times and triggered different emotions. Personally, I liked the Jack and Kate kiss more because I've been a supporter since the beginning and had been waiting for it for so long.

I'm a skater and so obviously liked the skate kiss more. But even if i wasnt i wud still think it becos it was so intense and full of chemistry. The way the couple looked at eachother afterwards was really meaningful. No offence but kate ran away with a look on her face which said omg i shouldnt have done that , when she kissed jack. Also the jate kiss had alot of camera effects and romantic music to make it a special moment. Whilst the skate kiss was in an akward angle and sawyer had a bloody face. I still thought the skate kiss was better and didnt need any effects as it didnt lack chemistly.

Honestly, the first time i saw the skate kiss i was disgusted...then kate PUNCHED the s**t out of sawyer...which made it totally fine because as sexual "hot" as it may have been...a big ol' WHACK in the end...that's so not a turn on...plus the reasoning behind the kiss are just wrong on so many levels...

The Jate kiss came out of right field...in a emotional moment Kate was looking for some form of calm from the "craziness" of her life at that moment...the one thing on the island at that moment that she could find that in was Jack...the aftershock, like most of the things that we know to have happened in her life, she ran away from...like most people she is afraid of the consequences of her actions...good or bad

Running away out of fear of what could happen because of something is a whole lot better than smackin the crap out of the other person

To be honest, I think (and I know I'm gonna get shot for saying this :o ), I think neither kiss SIGNIFICANTLY affected the status of the relationships between the characters. At least in the sense, that we can use them realistically to debate against each other. I mean the Skate kiss was very contrived and the Jate kiss was very spontaneous and irrational. The main purpose I think the writers incorporated these two events were (mainly for the audience's benefit, everyone was screaming for ANYTHING to happen to relieve some of that sexual tension) "used" were for Kate's own benefit. And before you go "No S*** Sherlock" let me explain.

After the Skate kiss, we easily saw this conflict in her; she "felt" something with Sawyer and that ironically allowed her to be more understanding of him, all the while fueling that "betrayal" idea with Jack even though they never were committed to each other. The same thing can be said for the Jate kiss; Kate essentially was emotional and not in her right mind-set and let the controlled facade slip ironically in front of the person who most needed to understand and "see" the "real" her. The betrayal her however, I might note, was not to Sawyer, but to herself, hence the OMG!-What-the-hell-did-I-just-do? face and the panicked run.

I hope that made some sense. And *shrugs* just a different perspective on it. Could be (and probably am :giggle: ) dead wrong. :D

Yes, he was holding her, but after she calmed down.. She wouldn't get out of his arms... So they were hugging.. She didn't kiss him whilst fighting, so that means something was between the fight and the kiss and that was the hug... He was calming her down, by hugging her.. And kate always runs away... Also from people she love...
And tongue doesn't mean anything.. It was hot, that's true .. But it hasn't got a meaning... espacially not if she's forced to kiss him... And he's tight to a tree... Okay, the skate kiss was hot... I actually quite liked the Jate kiss, but I just don't see how it was obvious that she wasn't sorry. Obviously Jack wasn't because he said so, but she could have said that she was sorry for running away if she wasn't sorry for the kiss.

I know that Jaters say she wasn't sorry and she was scared of her feelings and running away, but I think that she genuinely regrets that it happened, even if she just regrets the way it happened. And since this isn't a Jate/Skate debate thread, just the kiss thread and they've only had one kiss, I don't think it meant anything at that point. I just don't think its fair to say that the Skate kiss meant nothing and the Jate kiss had meaning behind it, because I don't think either Kate or Jack were thinking, or even had time to enjoy it or know what was happening.

The Skate kiss was just more passionate and there was alot behind it IMO. Not love right then, but it was the start of something - of Kate realising that she had a lot of common with a guy that understood her. Remember right after he was stabbed. She didn't run away, she was there when he woke up, and she said that she had been reading his letter over and over again trying to figure him out.

A lot of people even not shippers said that they were going to kiss again. Denying is useless...between jate there's romance but between skate there's nothing only friendship, that's why they didn't talk about the kiss. If that kiss really meant something maybe they wouldn't have to talk but at least something more should have happened but nothing more happened...instead even if Kate runned away something between jate heppened: Kate spent her time with Sawyer but she was always and I mean ALWAYS thinking about Jack, she was jelous of Ana, she wanted to come back in the club, she ignored Sawyer in tha last look...well maybe they were going to analyze their kiss because there was something to analyze... ;)

And I don't know if you watch Veronica Mars, but she runned away whe she kissed Logan...conections...
