i think eko is the first one to be thinking long term here, he's building a permanent shelter most probably. Which will be awesome. I hope by the end of the series we will have a functioning community of houses on the island...not just a bunch of shrapnel tied to together to make a tent....honestly

I'm guessing it's something more importent then just a shelter. Since he was so secret about it, and if everyone really needed a shelter for a serious situation they can always just pile up in the hatch.

I think hes buidling a trap of some sort. To catch zee island monster! because why would they need a shelter there are tens and caves and a hatch. ifr its a church ill be kinda mad but i have a feeling thats probably what it is.

Eko was in this episode long enough, considering that the ep had nothing to do with him. What they need to do is consistantly give him a scene or two, instead of leaving him out for a few episodes at a time. Still, it could work out better this way - they have managed to maintain his role as the most interesting character in Lost this season.

Has anyone else noticed that in just about every episode since the one where Charlie babynapped Aaron that he's been a jerk? Seems like everything that comes out of his mouth is something sarcastic or mean. Are they trying to make us dislike him? I thought he would want to try to redeem himself to everyone, make him seem like a better person. Wonder if he's using again?

#1 - I'm thinking Jorge Garcia was kidding about the restraunt thing. He was on 98 Rock in the Morning about a month ago and he said they never get any storylines until about 3-4 days before they shoot the episode.

The was a rumour that was another raft, this time meant to sail to the other part of the island to get the Others.

Finally, somebody else recognizes this! Thank you. Everybody hates on Charlie, but you should be hating on the writers for coming up with an absolutely ridiculous episode for him this season. They also pushed him into the role of annoying outcast, which just seemed forced.

Taking all of this time to build a church - he must have totally given up any hope of rescue! Instead of taking all this time and resources to build a church, maybe he should be working on something to get everyone OFF the island. Maybe they should all start trying to figure out how to get the computer to send a message.

It is definetly a church. First, Eko does the cross as many mentioned. This is seen mostly in churches. Second, he is having Charlie help him. Religion is one of the things that can help people out when they are have a rough time in life like Charlie is having.

its just an eko like thing to do, and then when he is finished he will probably explain that it is a church, a place to cast away your sins, express your fears, talk to God, repent on past things in life, be born again, in case they never get off the island, etc..
doesnt that seem like something eko would have in mind?

Okay Eko is building something and Sayid is building something and Charlie has helped both of them. I don't know but after Fire and Water Charlie has been more active with the group than before. Plus he knew about Henry.

I think its a church. He's a priest. He's given his life over to the service of God at this point, he's stared the island in the face. He's going to build a church for the people of the island because what they need is hope. They are just stuck in this everyday island existence and they've forgotten about rescue and are in survival mode.

And churches don't have to take that long to build.

Remember the jewish tabernacle with Moses--they moved it around with them. I'm hoping for something similiar to that (though I'm not sure why. I just think some of the symbolism associated with a tabernacle would be fun).

Also, with everyone reproducing we need a place to baptize the babies...

I think a church would be the best thing to build at this point. We know building a raft to get off the island hasn't worked before. Let everyone else worry about how they're going to get off. Religion is a great way to provide people with support in times of need. Eko is looking out for everyone else and providing them with a place of support.

It's not that he's giving up hope, but he's providing an institution that will allow him to give every other survivor some hope.

They have the Others taking people - who also took their guns and threatened them, a black smoke monster floating through the jungle, and Eko spends time and resources building a church?

I am going to have faith and believe he is building something more practical to their situation.

I also think that Eko is building a chruch. I've noticed that the writers keep referencing God a lot and I think it's because everyone one of the characters need forgivness or find God. I personally think that's why Eko is there. To help the rest come back to God. But that's just my opinion.

Another thing from the ABC website (http://abc.go.com/primetime/lost/index.html) in their "Recaps" section:

"Meanwhile, Eko continues building in the jungle and reveals to Charlie that he's constructing a church, enlisting his help."

That is part of the recap of "Dave." Of course, its wrong when it says that he reveals it to Charlie since he doesnt, but still. I think we can be pretty sure that with that, and Eko's personality, that it is a church. I think it'll be a neat addition, I just don't know what all they'd do with it =/

People said it's a church, looks kind of like another raft to me. Church would make more sense. Though I don't think I'm going to like the upcoming episodes that feature all the characters visiting church once a week and just listening to Eko blabber on about stuff. They don't even have any bibles on the island, how is Church going to work? And will anyone care enough to go?

Also, that couldn't make it any easier for the others to come and capture them all. They are all in this little wooden building that could easily be surrounded or burnt to the ground with everyone inside.

But the most interesting thing to me was the paralell between Eko/Charlie and Claire/Locke from first season.

A religious character takes a young character that nobody seems to want to talk to at the moment and takes them to build something, and then doesnt reveal what it is until its finished...

I believe that Mr Eko is building a Church or a House of God, as a way of saying this is the beginning of the faith revolution.

The entire island is based on scientific theories and facts etc. so buiding a Church will emphasis the beginning of a retaliation or war against all the science that's on the island.

The Church with Mr Eko as the leader will create the beginning of the war between "Faith and Science"
i.e. "Him" is the leader of the others (Science) and
"Mr Eko" will become the leader of the believers (Faith)

I believe that in season 3 of Lost we will see the battle between faith and science, and the losties will have to decide if they are with Mr Eko or not.

I can see the losties breaking up into 2 groups those who follow Mr Eko and those who don't.

Michael comes back in episode 22, the episode before the season finale, its also his flashback episode which means its probably going to be like Claires, showing them actually on the island

It does annoy me that the western world has no view or compassion for other religious ideals...Lost typifies this and it does annoy me.

Oh and I am not religious in the slightest myself, grew up in America but why would he be so presumptious to presume everyone on the island is Christian and god fairing?

Dont you think that as an example Sayid might become resentful and rejected by such and idea as a church? Of course that would presume he isnt Christian just because he is an Iraqi which would make me a hypocrite but surely there are a mix of religions and background on that island that would make a church an oddity and a slightly aloof building.

Just my two cents...

Is it just me, or was something wierd about when charlie and ecko were talking to each other when ecko appeared to be cutting something. If you look around 14:20 of the episode, charlie offers his pallete to ecko and ecko was cutting a branch over what appears to be a tree stump. then neither of them move and the focus goes to both of their faces and when it returns about 15 seconds later ecko is cutting the branch over a "Y" shaped branch instead of the tree stump.... WTF? am i taking crazy pills?

I thought upon seeing the pallet, that it proved that there was cargo in the plane because cargo is palletized for loading onto a plane. It could also explain where all the tarps are coming from.

I`ve had this thought about the tarps for sometime. Seeing the pallet and the food drop and connecting the 2, I`m still not convinced as the food was covered with a net!

Hhhmmm!! goes away to ponder some more :D
