Hello, I think this would be a cool idea to meet everyone...see the faces behind the posts!

With great trepidation I post one of myself. Its pretty crappy and the only one I have of me. I have this one because I was playing around with a Digital Camera at work a few weeks ago. OH and I found one of me and my sister and best friend. In in the middle.

Ok so other people post a pic so I dont feel so funny lol.

While I was walking to the game, I think some drunk guy tried to make a vulgar gesture at me after getting my attention by yelling "Hey Badgers4Bush," but he was too drunk to actually move fast enough, lol. Oh, drunks. You amuse me.

Totally....crazy liberal is a must! My best friend is a conservatic democrat (yes those exist) and Im a liberal republican (and those exist too) so we meet in the middle somewhere. But on election day we are going to go crazy....my store sells these dancing and singing Bush and Kerry dolls that are just too cute. Im thinking of buying one and seeing what the people at the booths have to say. :)

What is City Year?
An Action Tank for national service, City Year seeks to demonstrate, improve and promote the concept of national service as a means for building a stronger democracy. An 'action tank' is both a program and a 'think tank' - constantly combining theory and practice to advance new policy ideas, make programmatic breakthroughs, and bring about major changes in society.

My Response:

Interesting: You got the "Textbook Anwser", as Charlie Rose (Vice President and Dean of City Year, Inc.) puts it. Not let me give you the extended version:

City Year was started in the summer of 1988 by Alan Khazei and Michael Brown as a Summer Program for youth in Boston. 50 young people between 18 and 24 answered the call to serivce.

In 1992, President Clinton announced the creation of Americorps (see website for info on it), a Domestic Version of the peace corps. Americorps provides funding and resources for programs like Citizen Schools, Junior Achievement, Habitat for Humantity and of course, City Year.

From 1992 to 2003 City Year has grown and expanded across the US. It opened up a site in Chicago, Cleveland, Colmbia (South Carolina), Columbus (Ohio, and YES it is the only state with TWO City Year sites), Detroit, Little Rock (as of 2004-05), New Hampshire, New York (as of 2003-04), Philadelphia, Rhode Island, San Antonio, San Jose/Silicon Valley, Seattle/King County, and Washington DC.

City Year Boston reached a huge milestone in its 1995-96 corps year when it lauched 300 young idealists into a year of service. During this year, there were more Corps Members doing service than there where Boston Police Officers patrolling the streets at any given time.

Its 2nd milestone will take place Feb '05 when City Year Opens its first International City Year site in Johannesburg, South Africa. Cyzygy, City Year's Annual Convention of Idealism (pronounced sis-i-gee) was held in June '04 in Boston.

The 15th Anniversary Boston Corps successfully defended its National PT Championship title by winning the PT competition for the 2nd year in a row--something never done before it is 10-year history (Cyzygy, that is). The 2003-04 Corps year started with news of devistaing and frustrating budget cuts. Fortunately, Americorps was able to get funding reinstated.

President Bush also announced the creation of the US Freedom Corps in January 2004. It would be another branch of Americorps to help make sure everyone who wanted to would get the chance to serve.

And how do I know all this? I am an Alumni of the 2003-2004 15th Anniversary Boston Corps. When it comes to PT, "Boston is Always ready!". I am currently a member of the 2004-2005 Boston Corps as well. Cyzygy will be held in the city of our newest US site, Little Rock.

The Red Sox and Patriots aren't the only Boston franchises looking for a another title...


As I said, if you wanna know more, feel free to ask. I'll make a tread if enough people (at least 5) wanna know. That was the history to now. Let me tell you a little about my first corps year experience. It's rather short:

We came, we served, and we conquered. I taught Environmental Education in 2 Boston Elementary Schools. I volunteered at an afterschool program in Boston's South End. I led a team of kids at the City Year For Kids Program run during Feb. and Apr. Vacation. I participated in workshops, discussions and open forums concerning local, state, federal and interational issues.

I've met Local leaders such as Mayor Menino and Mitt Romney and Corporate Giants such as Jeff Schwartz (CEO of Timberland, one of City Year's National Sponsors) and FMR Governor Jessie Ventura. All this and more during one year of service in the city I live in and love.

It is Alan and Michael's dream that soon, one of the most commonly asked question of a young person is "Where are you going to do your year of service?" It is open to Corps ages 17-24 (though applicants must agree to work towards earning their GED if they haven't already done so) of all walks of life. No one/group/etc. is descriminated against for ANY reason.

Hey thanks so much!! :) It truly was one of my most embarrasing moments though. If you can see, the whole cast is LAUGHING at me because i started freaking out when i met Dominic!!! And Dom looks really uncomfortable because i had just tackled him... Ah!! So embarrasing!!!

If you can see, the whole cast is LAUGHING at me because i started freaking out when i met Dominic!!! And Dom looks really uncomfortable because i had just tackled him... Ah!! So embarrasing!!!

Well, being a HUGE Dom fan before the show LOST, i was always notified of everything he had been doing. I was walking around Disneyland one day, and they had advertisements for their Primetime Preview Weekend. Now, i never watch ABC, but i had seen a comercial for this little-bitty show called LOST, and at the end of the teaser, Dom goes "Where are we?" So, i figured Dom is on TV now, maybe he will be at Disneyland. So i am watching this thing at Disneyland announcing who's gonna be there. The voice says "DOMINIC MONAGHAN WILL BE THERE!!" and i freaked out and called my friends and told them "WE HAVE TO GO!" So we went, my friends and I with our "MERRY ME" shirt!! :D Foxy, Evie, and Harold were in the parade (no Dom) and i was like to Harold "DUDE I CAN'T WAIT TO WATCH YOUR SHOW!!!" and he's like "Hey Thanks!!" They were all really cool in person, including Dom, who must've been overwhelmed from all of his fans tHere! Me and my friends thought we were gonna be the only Dom fans there! We were so wrong!!

Oh yeah i totally TACKLED him!! I was totally fangirlish!! I had my hands over my face, squeeing like no other!! After we took the pic, i was like "Thanks Dom" and he's like "Thank you" in that cute lil accent!!
