View Full Version : Do you think the island has individual turfs?

Going on my gut reaction to the way that "Zeke" reacted to Jack's mention of Ethan - ie: there's no WAY he knew anything about it, I think it's reasonably obvious that there are different groups of Others on the island.

What I'm wondering is: do they each have their own 'turf' (call it what you like, turf, area, fief, region, whatever) which is out of bounds from the other Others - almost like gang divisions and territories?

I'm wondering this because of Zeke's "Cross this line" speech. He seemed to be saying to Jack "You can go anywhere you like, just don't come into this zone of the island."

So I wonder if Ethan and Goodwin were from their own little area too, and how many more there are - for example, there may be an entire area that's out of bounds to them all because of monsters/security system/bloody big polar bears, etc.

Anyone agree?

:)

its a very possible theory that has been discussed before.

The only question is, why are BOTH groups kidnapping children?

I've got a few wild ideas on that:

* One group doesn't want them, but uses them as leverage for trade, etc, with the group who DO want them.

* Children are a shield against, say, the security system, because of their innocence, and therefore are valued as a way to keep the black smoke out of the Others' respective camps.

* They're both splinters of one original group, and are carrying on the same research as each other but in different ways.

* There is something powerful on the island that can only be operated by children.

Just a few ideas thrown out there...

I *totally* agree with this. I was just reading another thread asking why the Others were letting our Losties stay on the island when the attacked the tailies. *this* theory could work for that. Maybe our losties have, thus far, stayed in an area that was nutrual teratory. The others more-or-less think of them as just another faction...only one without a clue. The taking children thing is a bit weird...unless it's like a thing of...ohhhh!

Did you notice that with the tailies they didn't just take children, but they took the best? Maybe, the factions have been playing the kings-and-pawns game. Whoever's teratory is the most populated has the most power. *so* one faction of Others kidnapped some of the tailies 'cause they were in the other faction of Others teratory, but the other faction of others didn't know/hadn't done anything about them yet. Maybe Ethan was just told to take two people, developed a fixation on Clare and decided to go for and stick with the two-for-one idea. LOL.

Also...who says Ethan and Goodwin are from the same faction?

gah...too many others.

Children are easier to accept their captors than adults are (like Stockhom Syndrome). Children would take on their beliefs and be on their side later in life, therefore adding to their numbers against the other others, lol....I'm confused now.

You mean like the sword in the stone?
You never know.

One of my earlier thoughts was that perhaps the black smoke is OPERATED by children, but I've discarded that one.

I love the way this show can drag out really insanely random ideas :)

well, zeke was on LAND and on WATER, so there goes that theory.

Why? Maybe on the water is neutral, or certain sides of the island's coastline belong to certain factions.

Nice avatar though - I used to make custom blinking bears for my friends :) I'm disappointed that the new album is going to sound like another Kid A though :(

I like this idea, when we saw Eko's confrontation with the Security System it was like it was making a judgement about his character (with all the smoke images) maybe the others could be protected by children who are still untainted, after all I dont think we have seen the monster in the same scene as any of the children, exept the first episode.

I like the theory of different groups of others having their own territory. This would explain the "not crossing the line" thing quite plausible.
