Here's a new thought. Cindy is a Ringer for the Others, kind of like Ethan was with the other camp. She may have been part of the orchestrating of this plane coming there. Since there was no fuss or fight going on, it seems like she just left. Also, she wanted to just keep going when Ana Lucia did, possibly to get closer to a trap, etc.. Here's another thought.... They aren't just after the kids, which is something we found out tonight. The tallies said that they took 3 and then 9 more two weeks later. If they started out with 23 total, then the Others took 12 - I doubt there were 12 kids in the back of the plane out of 23

Since there are only 5 (now minus Cindy = 4) tail enders left that means we still have 6 not accounted for. Ana spoke of 12 + the 5 = 17.

Interestingly enough, however, Kimberly Joseph (who plays Cindy) is listed as appearing in both episodes 8 and 9. Of course, episode 9 might be an imdb mistake. And she may in fact appear in episode 8 in Ana-Lucia's flashback. Ep 8 is apparently Ana-Lucia-centric.

anyone else find it odd that mr eko was so willing to help michael after he ran off yelling into the woods, and show jin around, and risk everyone for sawyer, but when cindy was right next to them and then dissappeared he was against going back for her?? i don't disagree with him, i think thier situation was differnet becuase he realized then that the others were THERE, while there was still a chance that his great tracking skills could get them out of trouble in the front ender's situations...
OR maybe he just didn't really care for poor ol' cindy. i suppose we'll find out more about her next week...:confused:

who's to say that a ringer from the island couldn't have been ON THE PLANE? That's what you guys were dismissing from my comment... It would have been a perfect way to make the plane come to the island(say if the magnetic force was not the reason or that it did not work) It's not a great idea, but it's an idea and it would explain why there was no fuss from cindy when she went missing, hence her just sneaking away.We were all SURE that Ethan was a survivor when we met him. We didn't even question it at first. Think about the kids thing too, when they took Claire, they took Charlie too, and left him for dead(he was just lucky Jack came when he did). They want the kids, kill the adults... I bet we'll find out that they didn't kill any of the kids next episode, be it 1 or 10....

Just because Cindy is taken by the others (or at least that's what it looks like) doesn't mean she's dead. Ana never said that the others killed the tail survivors (those 3 and 11 she talked about), she just said the others took them. I know Goodwin was killed by the others, but maybe that's because he decided to take action against the others and they punished him for this.

I didn't find Cindy being gone funny. I mean it does seem kind of funny being that she was traveling along with them and all of sudden she wasn't there type of thing. Like she just disappeared into thin air because you heard no noise and they apparently seen not a thing. I mean that was extremely weird and the weirdness of it to me is a bit on the amusing side. She's there and then she isn't there.

I think the "others" took her but I don't think they kill everyone they kidnap. I mean yeah they killed Goodwin but I bet Goodwin put up a fight. He looked like he might be the type to put up a fight.

I kind of find it strange that goodwin had a spear in his chest. If the others that were on the boat are the same others the tallies are afraid of then why would they have such archaic weapons. We know they have boats, guns and apparently enough gas to make Molotov Cocktails as well. I also agree that not everyone taken by the others is a goner. I also do not believe the child others are the same as the boat others. The ones on the boat didn't come off to me as the ones that don't leave any tracks. I think Cindy was just taken, and the others use their kidnapped people for something that has yet to be revealed.

It could be nothing, it could be something. Like most everything we post about here. But anyway, here is the link of the image. Oh, I just opened the image in Photoshop, selected that region, and used the brightness and contrast sliders until I reached what I thought was the perfect place that gave enough detail without going too far into washing it out. I would have done the whole image, but I discovered when I did that, the “Ewok’s” eyes disappeared and just looked like random foliage.

the goal here is fear. either kill them all or take as many of them as they can and turn them bad, these guy's ain't stopping until they're the only ones left.

as for cindy being the waitress on the plane.... i don't think she could have gotten to the back of the plane that quickly, because she was up front doing the announcement thing, and then she was with the attendant getting charlie out of the bathroom. (yes, i am observant).

and the ringer thing is blown because ethan kept himself to himself mostly (or hung with locke, either way).

here is two things bothering me, just after Cindy dissapears, when Ana is calling her name, it seems to me that Bernad is saying "your sister?" ive listened to this over and over again, and im almost certain that "your sister" is beeing said by someone if it isnt Bernard.

and, when Eko and Anas group hear the whisperers Ana raises her gun and yells RUN!, now here is whats odd, its Sunny and the weather is dry but when Sayid and Shannon hear the wisperers and see Walt its raining like the skies have opened up, and its dark, so it has to be some time after Ana`s group heard the whisperers, now what happened to Ana`s group between then? maby there was a good reason for her beeing jumpy.

one last thing i thought while writing, the guys that took Walt had guns, we know that, they shot sawyer, maby Walt was really there in the woods this time, and so were the ones that took him, they shot sawyer to get him so if shannon got in their way, maby they shot her too, cuz when Ana`s group hears the wisperers maby its the ones that took Walt are the ones that were after them, and when they meet Sayid and Shannon the ones chasing Anas group stumbles upon Shannonand shoots her, maby this is a long shot, but i like to think :)

Since each "hatch" seems to have a hidden door, in a hillside, one could be there someplace even if we don't see it.
And Sayid tripped over some "hardware" so if they haven't gone far, he may have found the hatch, and Cindy went in/was pulled in the door.
Perhaps this is "the dark territory" due to the nature of the experiments taking place in this particular hatch.

In one of the shots posted earlier in this thread, you can see something that looks like a body bound in a blanket (I don't think that's Sawyer?). Ironically, it's the same shot where Libby is grabbing Cindy's bag. Could it be that Cindy was caught in one of DR's traps? Then perhaps it was DR somehow involved in Shannon's death?

Just watched it back, and the bit you mean looks like Ana-Lucia's gone round the back of Eko.

Although, what is odd is that around that scene you can see a leg with blue jeans and a brown shoe (can't capture it, but it is a brown shoe). Probably Ana Lucia... but she was bearing the weight of Sawyer.

That should be Ana Lucia's brown jacket, nipping around Eko and Jin to get Sawyer. Just my above screenshots weren't in keeping with it as Ana Lucia was trying her best not to be crushed by Sawyer's weight at the time.

It wasn't meant to be taken that way - she was giving Sawyer hope and encouragement to go on by telling him he'd be ok - y'know, bedside manner (the type that Jack doesn't have:p )
So, the "look" was because really she knows that his wound isn't ok at all. If you watch it again she also directs this look at Michael as if to say "It is bad though!" and his concerned face confirms he knows it too.

Back to Cindy - Who is the flight attendant. I think shes in with the Dharma Initiative, infact I think all the flight crew work for Dharma (except the pilot) and that Dharma specifically hired/bought the plane to bring the Losties (who have been specially selected) to the island.
I think she was instructed to hide under the tree roots so the tailies would assume she'd been taken, I think they predicted that they'd be so freaked out they wouldn't start a proper search for her.

As to who shot/stabbed Shannon, I don't know and I'm not going to try and find out. I'm tired of being a spoiler addict - I'm going to sit back and enjoy the surprises from now on:D

No, the last time you see her everyones pretty preoccupied with heaving Sawyer up the hill. Eko was right at the top with Ana, Libby would've been the most likely to spot her.
But y'see, if Cindy hid - as opposed to being taken - she could've done it quickly and quietly.

I agree that the flight staff are part of the Dharma program. This is why the Others took her. They want revenge for what happened to them. This is just speculation. I read no spoilers to come up with this.

I'm also speculating without spoilers:p (they're bad for your health!!)
I think that there are about 3 or 4 groups of others:
*Dharma others
*Escaped kid others
*Random others - Ethan/Danielle
*Maybe Black Rock others, but I think that the Black Rock is just a set up created by Dharma too.

I think Cindy wasn't "taken" rather that Dharma have been giving her instructions on what to do and that they told her to hide (to make it look like she was taken) and return to base.

I'm not sure Cindy was taken by the others. Does anyone else wonder if she came up somewhere else? Provided Ana-Lucia didn't shoot Shannon (and I don't know one way or the other), she may have shot Cindy if she came up on them while they were panicking. Just something I've been mulling over. Make of it what you will.

the brown thing above eko's head was Jin's leg. Someone else posted the shot of Jin above Eko, and then a continuity error with Ana bearing the weight of Sawyer. Look at the first pic in that post (On page 2 somewhere). It is Jin.

I think Cindy was just taken, they don't leave tracks, and if they don't leave tracks I would doubt that they make noise. As scared as they all seemed, then the others must be pretty sneaky and take people by surprise.

There is a part when Ana-Lucia says, "Cindy, Cindy, where is Cindy"? You can hear this scream but you have to pay close attention. It's somewhat far out but you can still hear it. I don't know if it's Cindy or a bird but it sounded human.

Cindy went missing while they were trying to get Sawyer up that cliff. It would've been damn hard to take someone while doing that. Of course everyone else would have been very distracted with Saeyer so it would have been easy for her to go missing. But even though the Others don't leave tracks, it was soaking wet mud! That is unbelieveable!

I saw this episode last week, and I felt it was so strange how they could take her without making a sound.

I just have a feeling that she maybe saw one of the children whom were taken by the others in the distance, similar to Shannon seeing Walt and simply headed back after them. Not thats its true, just a thought.

Just watched a recording of Abandoned again. In the last close up given of Cindy before they notice she's gone, there is definitely a dirty leg and barefoot seen taking one step behind her. I freeze framed it and it looks the same as the knee-down view earlier seen by Mr Eko and Jin.

Now that we know what we do about the others, is it really true that they do not leave tracks? They probably do, right? Possibly they just were more clever about covering them, or walking so that they didn't leave many tracks to follow? It's not like they "hover" or anything crazy like that! I'm just surprised that never came up again.
