Well I love this couple together I believe that tom was kate only true love and nothing would change that. They were so cute in born to run even though we know what happened :(

I would love to find out what happened between the 2 before that event :(

I'm glad I'm not the only one who really loved Kate and Tom together. For some reason, "Born to Run" really got to me. Something about them just seemed right. Tom was such an amazing guy--he truly loved Kate. Even though he had responsibilities and knew it would lead him into danger, he got in that car with Kate...he loved her and wanted to be there for her, no matter what.

When he died, I was just so destroyed. I felt horrible for Kate--hence my favorite Kate moment, when the marshal throws the plane on the ground and she reaches for it in her handcuffs.

Oh, Tate....

As a Jater, I think that Tate will kind of be resurrected through Jate. Not in a creepy, I'm-trying-to-get-my-old-bf-back kind of way, but in the sense that they have a lot of similarities. Not just being a doctor, but Jack and Tom are both stand-up guys w/ good hearts.

Just thinking about Tom's poor kid...and the wistful look Kate had in her eyes when she saw his picture on the fridge. ALmost like the life she and Tom should have had. I wonder if we'll see more flashbacks of them.

OH OH OH this is probably glaringly obvious to everyone else, but I bet we will see Tate a LOT in this next episode--think about it....
-Tom wasn't wary of Kate at all when she showed up and didn't hesitate to help her, even tho she was obviously on the run
-he knew about her rift w/ her mother
-he said "if you cooperate" which implies he knows her story

I really think Kate and the Marshal had something. Their rapport definitely seemed more than fugitive-hunter. And remember how he told Jack "so she got to you, too..."

that we KNOW of. Not like that's a lot of men to date when you're in your late 20s, but it just seems odd that a woman with so many trust issues has had so many entanglements. We've only seen Sawyer with two or three women, Jack with one, and Sayid with one unless I'm mistaken.

My theory on the marshal is now that he was in love with Kate...he kind of fell for her as he was chasing her, and maybe she kind of used that to her advantage a few times. It would certainly explain his "she got to you, too" comment to Jack, and his intense feelings toward her (strangling her?!) You don't just strangle someone that you think is dangerous when a few hours ago you were sitting calmly next to them on an airplane and they're not harming you. I know he was delirious but still. There has to be something there.

I'm jsut so bummed that Tom isn't in this epi. I really loved him. Well we all do, obviously, or this thread wouldn't exist. I just want to see some more--I loved Kate when she's with Tom. So vulnerable and yet so strong. Such an amazing actress--I can't believe she has no experience. Ok I'm rambling, must sleep. ":)

Maybe they weren't married but something had to have happen between her childhood with Tom and Born to Run. Maybe they were engaged or something but whatever she did forced her to run. She was, what, 13 on that tape recorder? Something was there for those two, otherwise they wouldn't have stayed friends at all.

I know this is Jatephemy, but I'm a bigger shipper of Tate right now than anything! I love how they knew everything about each other, there wasn't all this angst. It was intense and sad (he was already taken) but they had this history that no one could take away, and he knew her.

It seems like with Jack, she's always striving to be different. Tom knew her, from when she was a little kid, there was nothing to explain. "You know why." He did, he knew everything about her and there was no need to explain or defend herself.

Yeah, I think she was definitely married before we saw her tonight. She was 24, that's plenty of time to have gotten married. She wasn't living at home (Wayne asked "what are you doing here?") so it's safe to say she was out on her own, and probably had been married.

I was thinking about the car crash in parking deck scene yesterday for some reason, and it made me really depressed. Does it bother anyone else that Kate ran away after she saw Tom was dead? I know she panicked and was used to running, but it seems like that--if nothing else--would have woke her up from running and made her not care about getting caught. It just seems like if the love of your life has just died in front of you, you wouldn't have the strength to get up and keep running, you know? It would have been so romantic/heartbreaking if they had made her stay with him and get caught, and the police would have to pull her away from him and she'd be calling out "Tom, no, Tom!"

PS--I highly doubt it, but wouldn't it be interesting if we saw a flashback in which Kate disguised herself, came back to her hometown, and somehow helped out Tom's widow/son? Or maybe send them money in an anonymous name or something? It seems like something Kate would do.

It seems like an in-character thing to do, but they were probably getting tired of making her get caught and having her escape. I'm sure we would've been like "oh look she got away again :rolleyes:" if we saw that...

Hmm good point. I just don't see Kate running away from her dead childhood sweetheart. I get the adrenaline thing, but I just think something that shocking would have woken her up from her must-run mentality.

I sure hope so. I mean, I rewatched a lot of "Born to Run" for my vid, and I think they left a ton open. First off, I think it'd be interesting if they showed a teen/college age Kate in a relationship with Tom. We saw the aftereffects of their love, but never the actual relationship. I think they might show that to deepen her character and show the "innocent" Kate before the realization that Wayne was her father destroyed her life.

Also, I have to wonder if BTR was Kate's first time seeing Tom since being on the run. I mean, I'm assuming she was gone for years--what did the marshal say? I'm too lazy to look it up. And he seemed shocked to see her, but not like "I haven't seen you in 3 years," just "wtf are you doing in my car?" I'd like to know if Kate saw him at all before she left, like she made a trip to see her father.

And were Tom and kate together when she killed Wayne? I doubt it, but I'd like to know what their status was. Did he get married before or after she was on the run? And like I said before, I'd like for them to show Kate sending money or somethin to Tom's wife and child. I know it still weighs on her to this day (haha like she's real) that she left them without a husband/father. I would be shocked if she hadn't tried to take care of them, or maybe explain the situation? I can see her sending what little money she had and Tom's widow sending it back because she knew that Tom never got over "Katie." Oohh sounds like a good fic idea! Tate fic!

That line Tom says in BTR; "it's not fair... you coming back like this" <- One of my favorites. It packed so much emotion. And it made me all the more curious about what happened between him and Kate before she went on the run.

And I also want more on the Wayne deal. That "you're always running" "and you know why" exchange hinted at greater things.

I couldn't not join in with this thread. They are like...my favourite non-canon ship. Although I love Jate, I think Tate is really cute. And there are a lot of similarities which I think is why I like both ships so much.

I love the way she had Tom throughout the times when she was growing up.

I cant watch born to run on my dvd anymore cause my mates taken my season 1 DVD :shock: :( but I'm going to download Tate clips. When ever I watch born to run I always cry when Tom gets killed. I hope he's in the next set of flashbacks (Some of my friends have said he is) cause its ment to be around Kates marriage and I can see it being before Tom was killed and Tom would have to be at her wedding wouldnt he?

I love(d) Tate in its episode- it's so sad and sweet... I would have signed this sooner, but I didn't even realize there was a name for Tom and Kate :o

I have a tate banner I made a while ago, and the one I have now is implied tate, but I'm still working on that whole fancy picture-attachment thing :rolleyes:
