As far as software is concerned, I'm a strong advocate of Adobe Premiere for editing, Adobe After Effects for any special effects or text graphics. Also, Sorenson Squeeze is a great program for converting your final project into various types of file formats and sizes. However, none of these programs come cheap, and unless you already know what you're doing, it may take some time to figure out how to use them.

As far as hosting, I've heard there are places like Angelfire that do it for free, but they're free service only allows for about 20mgs of space, which amounts to about one or two videos, maybe less if you have other content up. Beyond that, I think you have to pay. You can do that through any number of sources such as Angelfire or Yahoo or throw a rock and hit six or seven places that are willing to take your money.

I know that Lost-media.com has some clips that you could probably use. I don't know how many and of what type.

The process I use is a bit complicated. I can only imagine there must be an easier way to do it. I have the episodes on my computer, but have to use an S-Video out cable to put the clips I want to use onto my digital camcorder, then reroute those clips from my camera back to the computer. Otherwise, I'd have to convert the files and that takes just as long. But yeah, I'm rambling.

I think this thread is a great idea though and I look forward to hearing what input others have to add. I know there's the "tutorial" thread, but hopefully we can find some really halepful resources on this new thread.

Currently, I'm downloading episodes using Kazaa... but it's sooooooo sloooooowwwww. It's now day number two waiting for some of the episodes. As for actually making the videos, I just have Windows Movie Maker.

I have some info about hosting sites that charge money. I currently put my videos on my friend's site, he got one through Lunarpages.com and he pays like 8 bucks a month and he gets 40GB of bandwith a month (people can download that much material a month without it costing you more) (and that's quite a bit). I started researching some places because I want my own eventually. I'm thinking of going with startlogic.com. They give you a little more room, but don't have as many sub-domains. They're about the same price. Many places now are offering free set-up and free domain name. Both startlogic (called Pro Logic on the list) and lunarpages are on the list as well as Yahoo.

that's happened to me on occasion, but it usually has something to do with whether you use a download programme such as GetRight to download your files... the surefire way to get them is just to click on the link, it'll pop up asking you where you'd like to save it :D

I have some info about hosting sites that charge money.

That's right, I've now resorted to quoting myself. That's how pompous I've become. But no seriously, I have a somewhat followup to my hosting post a few posts up.

I decided to go with StartLogic.com and so far things seem to be okay. I paid for one year of hosting and my domains and the total was something like 120 or something, it was a few weeks ago and my memory is piss poor (like Kirk!).

I get 20GB of storage of any kinda files I want. I have lots up now and am only at like 6%. I also get 60GB of bandwidth, which are kind of like your cell phone minutes. Everytime someone downloads a video from my site it uses up say 7megs. It's A LOT of bandwith. I highly doubt I will ever run the danger of exceeding that limit.

They have web templates you can use, but I didn't find any of them very appealing. They do, however, allow Microsoft Frontpage files. For those who don't know, and I didn't, it basically means you design and manage your site in Frontpage, and then it sends the files to the server. So far I've found Frontpage to be suitable for my lack of HTML coding skills. If you know how to work graphs well in Word and do those types of layouts it's kind of the same thing.

I haven't quite figured everything out just yet, and my site still feels very amateur-ish in look and feel, but I finally have my own place to not only host my Lost videos, but really anything you want at all. I have all kinds of stuff up there so far and plan to add more when I figure out how to do it.

Overall 120 for one year of hosting, not bad to me at all. I'd spend that on silliness anyhow. I highly recommend it.

dreamcatcher I like to use www.rapidshare.de for sharing video files. They remain there as long as there are people downloading. And the files can be up to 30MB ! It's free :)

As for the software I suggest using Sony Vegas 5, very user friendly and tons of cool FX. I used to use Adobe Premier Pro, and I'm telling you guys, Vegas beats the crap out of Premier anytime of the day.

I'm downloading an epi to work with...but if it's realplayer, am I going to be able to edit it? I don't want to waste my time downloading it if it's not.

I can't seem to get the video to play at all...I downloaded the windows codec (like I have any idea what that means or how to "use" it ;)!) and also tried the real alternative player thing, but that did no good. What to do??? I feel like the most computer illiturate person in the world! *sigh* Better go get my Mom to try and do something, so I don't feel so stupid :)!

Hi Tru_Angel!

If you're using Movie Maker, no Real Media files can not be imported/edited in there :( - As to other video making programs, I'm not sure.

If you can download WMVs, AVIs or MPEGS of the episodes, those will work in Movie Maker if that's what you're using.

I know there's a way, I had to do it once (just can't remember which converter I used) - you need to download a converter that converts rm files into wmv files. You can download converters from Tucows or downloads.com, or search in google for rm to wmv converter

Problem is, a lot of them only do half the file in trial versions or have other problems like only converting a certain number of files before the trial runs out or leaving watermarks on the finished clip, it takes a lot of trying out before you find one you can do what you want with for free...it took me ages with converting rm files but it's possible. Hope that helps.


Also, Ulead video editors are fantastic and you get a 30 day free download (you just have to get through the often broken registration process first) - can get them from Tucows. I've tried most of the video editors but Ulead media Pro is complex but I'm certain is the best video editing program around. I LOVE this software!!! It's so complex to learn it takes up half of the 30 day trial getting used to it, and then when it runs out you can't buy it because it costs hundreds, so you can then download Ulead video studio which is they're other program and get a 30 day trial on that. Even so, the videos you can make with these programs are worth the hassle IMO.

I am having this problem too. Seeing as you're a Skater though I recommend www.josh-holloway.com. They've got all the important Skate scenes in wmv format, but only as far as '...And Found'.

But if you're making something that doesn't revolve around Sawyer then I don't know where to look.

Hey all,

I need two clips because i have a new idea for a video:D I need the following:

1) The clip from Confidence Man where Sawyer is getting free from the tree he is tied but then he & Shyid tackle, Sawyer gets the knife in his arm, Jack is trying to save him but Sawyer is taunting him to let him die.

2) The clips from Outlaws Where Sawyer is about to kill the boar but changes his mind and he spots Kate and says that they should head back to camp.

Ok, Heres what I want

1) Piolt - Jack wakes up in the jungle, relises where he is, run to the beach, arives @ the beach see the wreckage, and then runs over to help (You don't have to Show Jack helping the surivors, I just want it to the piont wehre he runs over to help

2)Piolt - Kate is in the ocean, washing her arms and then is disturbed by Sun

3) Random SHOTS/CLIPS of the beach and the island - can be from any episodes, I don't mind

4) Sawyers promo - He is sitting on a log, on the beach & is Saying "No one here knows the real me etc....They say everything happens for a reason PLEASE!" - I have a RM copy of this but I really need a WMV Copy, so if you have it can you please send it my way??

Check out the "How to Make a Music Video" stickied thread for specific tips and overall instructions. Personally, I don't download the episodes--I just download individual clips. I get most of mine from

They all work in Windows Movie Maker, and are named and organized according to Season, Episode, and Scene so it's easy to figure out. Only problem is, they only have clips showing their respective characters--so Evie's site only has Kate scenes, etc. I haven't been able to find Shannon/Boone clips.

If you downloaded the clips from those sites, then they should go right into WMM. Ahhhhhh I bet you're not unzipping them. When you hit "download" make sure to save the file, not just open it. Then, after the download has completed, "unzip files." It takes a few seconds and makes the clip work in WMM. If you use IE or Firefox, just hit "save to a disk" and put the clip somewhere safe, and when it downloads, go there and open it--you'll see the "unzip" option somewhere in the window.

Try www.josh-holloway.com and www.evangeline-lilly.net. They have clips in WMV format which you will be able to use to make videos. Lost-media, whilst excellent for art, isn't so good for videos because it uses Real Media video format, which won't work in any of the movie making programmes as far as I know.

For season two stuff try www.watchlost.com the quality on some of the episodes isn't very good, but mostly it's okay.

For Jack clips try www.jackandkate.org

For Charlie and Claire there's a site called 'The Moth and the Butterfly', but I'm not sure of the URL I'm afraid.

Personally I've had difficulty getting hold of Shannon, Boone and Sayid clips. I'm currently building up a collection of comeplete episodes, rather than clips, because I think it's the only way to really get everything you need.

I've made three videos in the past (two Queer as Folk, one Boone/Shannon) and then I heard a great song (well. Okay. Not great, but fitting and if I mention by who, I'm going to get laughed at because I like stuff by like Breaking Benjamin and Three Days Grace and now all of a sudden I want to do a video to a song by Paris freaking Hilton. -facedesk- If that doesn't work, I am going to do it to one by The All American Rejects though) but I realized something. Charlie and Sawyer are on the screen together less than some of the secondary characters are on the screen at all.

Now, I can't think of many scenes. I have access to all the episodes, thanks to Fraps and also episodes of season two that I haven't gotten around to burning yet still being on my computer.

So... right. Uh. I'm rambling. I should probably post the scenes I have in mind, right? Now, any that I can use, even if it's just a face shot of one that I can somehow put and match up with a face shot of the other, would work. So I got:

o Fight over Claire's diary
o Cigarette scene that was cut
o Entire scene leading up to him saying he isn't a good man
o Sawyer mocking Charlie at the start of the Long Con when he's setting up his tent (Thank you Shona)
o Charlie following Sawyer with Aaron after learning he's the only one who can quiet him (Thank you LG81387)

Ones I'm not sure about that me and Shona thought and that need verifying or more explaining:

o When Charlie goes to tell everyone about the cave-in.
o When the food falls from the sky in Dave, if they start arguing.
o If Charlie hands Sawyer the bottle of letters for the raft.

Yep. I haven't watched season one in forever, and season two in a bit. Any scenes would be good. They don't have to be nice, 'cause I may not use that song. The other song I have in mind, from The All American Rejects, isn't all... romantic so yeah.

Do what I did, if you have a lot of computer space. Either get Shareaza or Limewire and download the episodes (make sure they're about 350MB each; these are the good ones), or find the episodes on youtube and use this site to download them: http://video.qooqle.jp/dl/ And then you can clip them with your editing programs. I doubt you can get just random Locke clips, as he isn't a major, major character like Kate, Jack or Sawyer.

If you've got Windows Media Player, just put the CD into your computer, open WMP, and there should be a 'Rip' tab. Check the box for the song you want, hit rip, and it'll most likely go to your My Music folder.

To get it into WMM, open the program and there should be a 'Movie Tasks' list that shows up on the left side of the screen. Hit 'Import Audio or Music' and then browse until you find your song, click Import, and you should be good to go. Alternately, you can just press 'Ctrl+I' and it'll open the Import menu that way.

QUESTION Im trying to make my very first jate video using windows movie maker and i was wondering....... how when you get clips off jackandkate.org or any other site how do you take the zipped file and put it into WMM......anyone ??? please let me know thanks so much!

Can anyone direct me to a safe site for LOST .WMV clips? I would like to start creating videos, but I don't want to put my computar in harm of viruses. I am preferably looking for Charlie or Claire clips, but anything would be helpful.

You must excuse my ignorance, but I am not very good at this sort of thing.

I went to Lost Video Island for clips. When I clicked download, it started to say downloading..... on the screen. How do I have control over where it goes to save? Does my window pop up later that gives me the choice? I'm just curious, because usually the little window comes up to show downloading process.

Hey I have a question. I went to zshare for clips, and I pressed download and it downloaded the clip for me fine. The clip then played in windows media player. My question is how do I get that clip transferred over to use in windows movie maker? Much appreciated ;)

Right click the clip file and click "open with" and then choose Windows Video Maker.

Or, go to Windows Video Maker and click "import media" find your clip from the window that pops up showing your files and it will send it there (as long as it isn't zipped) This is easier.

Hey guys,

Im trying to make a video of PB&J, But for it im gonna need a few clips where Claire is like, Alone and not pregnant.

Here is a few clips I have thought of.

- The beach where Libby is helping Claire remember about Ethan
- The scene where Claire is walking along the beach and she finds the bottle

If anyone could possibly get these scenes for me, Or think of any more I could use. I would be sooo thankful :w00t:
