Anyone have an idea how long everybody has been on the island?

at the end of season one it is 40 days. season two, 4 days have passed.

the thing about desmond, how long he's been on the island...he's got some pretty up-to-date objects. just look at the washing machines he had

Or the lava lamp....I think he has been in the island for a couple of years, more or less and also, he still has contact with the civilization but he wouldn't have all moder things in "his house"

This is confusing, isn't it? He has no idea the world is out there, yet he has all this stuff recently produced in that world. Since he seemed to be waiting for someone ("him") he apparently thinks there is at least one person left on earth rather than him. Do you think he's been supplied with these things in some mysterious way--they just appear when he's asleep or something--and he thinks some "him" is sneaking in to supply them? I have no idea. This one is really mysterious.

how long ago was it that jake meet desmond, 3-4 yrs? so it couldn't have been longer then that.

The 48th day could be when the rafties and the tail end people arrive back. Then a ana lucia flashback episode droves in.

tie in shannons known age, when her father died and where this fitted in with jack meeting desmond.

I can tell you how long. They were on the Island for 40 days when they blew up the hatch. Desmon has been on the island 5-4 years. 3 years since his partnar died and about a year before that after he crashe on the island. they've been on the island now after lasnights show about 45 or 46 days.

Your right i beleive it's been 6 years if desmon left the same year he meet jack cuz you have to take in acount the time spent between the meeting and the crash: meets desmon, saves girl, marrys girl, dad loses lic to pratise med, loses girl, dad leave's, die's jack takes about a month to find hin , departs to bring him home crashes,40 days later meets desmon again. this is all a rough guess mind you.

He's been on the island 4 years: 1 year after the he's boat crashe's, 3 years alone. also the stuff he has isn't all that modern.
