Does anybody else think it's curious that Jack wouldn't take Sayid with him as backup to confront Locke? Isn't that out of character?

I thought that Sayid knew about the hatch.

Did Sayid even come out of the jungle? I can't remeber. But, if he did he was probably preoccupied with Shannon's 'crazy' rantings. And I think Jack went just to be with Kate when she went into the hatch, not to confront Locke.

Sayid is all dopey about Shannon. That's gonna get him in trouble soon.

Sayid did know about the hatch, as a matter o fact he tried to talk Jack out of helping Locke open it.

Well Jack wasn't going to confront Sayid, he was going to see about Kate. That was pretty obvious because he didn't make the decision to go confront anything going on at the hatch until Kate said she was going. And why would Jack need Sayid to back him up as Jack is his own man and doesn't appear to "need" help in any other situation. The situation with Jack confronting Sawyer, Sayid wanted to be in on that, he put himself into it. So Jack has never "asks" for anyone to back him up. Aside from seeing if Kate would be on his side when the "Locke problem" arose. You know what I mean?

I guess I was thinking that Jack is primarily a reasonable, cautious man, and he wouldn't know what Locke was capable of doing.

You're probably right. I read too much into it.

Sayid probably knew not to expect much from the 'let's hide people in the hatch' plan.

Mmm, I kinda agree with this. With everything that's happening, she's gonna cause him some worry and heartache. Especially after her seeing Walt in the jungle and believing that he's back (wait, what does she believe? I think i'd better re-watch that scene) but yeah, I agree that she's more trouble than she's worth, even thoguh i actually like her as a character, lol!

Don't you think that it was a little odd that after promising everyone they would be safe until sunrise from the "others" Jack takes abdicates the "shepard of the flock" persona to check out what Locke and kate actually find after he puts down Locke big time in front of Hurley and Kate in opening the hatch dismissing the attempt of safe refuge inside? Kudos to Kate for telling Jack, "Jack you are a hero" and then immediately leaves to assist Locke in trying to do something for the good of the group.
I see Saiyd as having to be the warrier left in camp to DEAL with what ever happens with no warning. Jack did not even tell Saiyd he was leaving. The group assumed their "Shepard leader would be there with them through thick and thin". It will be interesting in the next episode if Saiyd assumes the leadership in Jack's absence and how the group responds. It was really unfair to leave Saiyd with Shannon to deal with, the threat of the others, and depart taking a weapon with him especially seeing how panicy the group was to defend themselves.

About Jack rusing off to the hatch: There was a deleted scene between Charlie and Jack where Charlie mentions about Kate telling Jack that she was going to the hatch. Charlie then goes on to say something along the lines of "maybe she wanted you to tell her not to go". This would then fit in with why Jack went off to the hatch. Also, i'm a Jater so I like the whole 'jack going to save Kate' thing :P

You're probably right. I can't wait to see the look on Sayid's face if Shannon ever tells him the story about how she got the airline security officials to hassle an innocent Arab man in the Sydney airport... :)

It's a promotional picture from the "Homecoming" episode. You can find pictures and screencaps at lost-media.com :)

Just to add, the scene doesn't exist. Never happened. So don't worry about being spoiled. lol
