View Full Version : Modly Advice: The Top 5 Ways to Get Banninated

nanananananananana-BANNINATED!
Do you want to be banned? Well! This thread is for you! Here are some handy-dandy ways to achieve your goals.
5. Constantly break the signature and avatar rules.
It'll get you a temporary ban for first time offenders, but repeat offenders get a permanent ban.
4. Constantly being warned for breaking any and/or all the board rules.
Self-explanatory. Simply following the rules will keep you safe from the jaws of the moderators and administrators.
3. Inapropriate posts/threads.
Inapropriate threads would be posting a thread with pornography or describing some kind of sexual act while bringing people into the thread with false pretences like "Spoilers for Season Two" or "New Secret About Jack Uncovered!" Promoting inapropriate ships (http://lost-forum.com/showthread.php?t=8869) is another example. You're not cute or funny or original when you do this. You're annoying and it's boarderline TROLL behavior.
2. Being disrespectful to anyone on the forums, especially a moderator or administrator that warned you about breaking a rule.
Nothing says "Ban me" better than telling someone to "get :censored: " or anything related that involves some sort of insulting explative.
1. Trolling.
'Nuff said: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_troll
Word of Advice: FOLLOW THE BOARD RULES AND BE POLITE!
Being polite will get your point of view and your case MUCH FARTHER than being rude and insulting. Telling a moderater to "go :censored: yourself" is NOT the brightest way to get your point across, in fact, it's the BEST way to get yourself banned without another word from us.

It is simply becoming increasingly evident that some people simply have no common sense when it comes to the forum. People continuously use excuses such as "I didn't know I could get banned for...." when they very well ought to. Now they can't claim such a thing. :p

LMAO! You guys crack me up.
And to satisfy curiosity, I did indeed ban someone and enjoyed it emmensely. Honestly, you don't curse out a mod when all you got was a warning.
I'm willing to give some people breaks, but if you're going to sass me and cuss me out, then guess what - you done.
[rant] I don't care about "freedom of speech" when it harasses or insults other people. I don't care if you think your post is funny - your opinion does not matter if it breaks the rules. I don't care if there are hundreds of other forums with inappropriate threads on it, making you unoriginal - it's not allowed here, so guess what, you don't get to make them without getting a warning. I don't care if anyone thinks I or the rest of us "powers that be" are oppressive Nazis. Rules are rules. This place is a privelage not a right. [/end rant]
You are not a beautiful and unique snowflake. You are the all dancing, all singing crap of the world.

Sandy: Quint means 5.
Raven: You go, girl! I'm a Mod on two boards, and an Admin on four, and I never had ban anybody. But you are so right. At my boards, everyone is equal. Cussing out a Newbie is as bad as cussing out a Mod. If that ever happens at any of my boards, the person is done!
Quiet Tempest

*feels much like a doof* Oh, right.. 5. ;)
Raven, ;) I don't keep an unlimited supply of witty movie quotes on the tip of my tongue for easy use.. but if you do, maybe you'll get some use out of these.
"Turn it off, man! Turn it off! It's sucking my will to live!" - Garth Algar (Wayne's World)
"I don't want to talk to you, no more, you empty-headed animal, food trough wiper. I fart in your general direction. You mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries." - French Soldier (Monty Python's and the Holy Grail)
"This is a tempest in a teacup, much ado about nothing, for crying out loud man, this isn't brain surgery." - Gen. Taylor (Good Morning Vietnam)
"You ain't leading but two things right now: Jack and Shit. And Jack just left town." - Ash (Army of Darkness)
"[talking to very old prostitute] So, is there any tread on the tires, or is it like throwing a hot dog down a hallway?" - Stewie (Family Guy)
"Ha ha. Oh, this is so good it just HAS to be fattening." - Stewie (Family Guy)
"What? You pooped in the refrigerator? And you ate the whole... wheel of cheese? How'd you do that? Heck, I'm not even mad; that's amazing! How 'bout we get you in your p.j.'s and we hit the hay." - Ron Burgundy (Anchorman)

here's one: "The fridge broke, so I had to eat everything" -Joey from Friends (it was more the way he said it that made it funny...)
"Do you love him?"
"Yes, but-
"Don't play fiddler with me! Do you love him????" -Will and Grace

Raven O' Reilly, what's the policy on suggesting nonconsensual rape of a female character? I read a post by someone that suggested that Desmond should get Kate drunk so that he could rape her, i.e. nonconsensual sex.
Raven O'Reilly
09-29-2005, 12:07 PM
Same policy on what nonconsensual rape is considered by U.S. Law: NOT ALLOWED.
Ugh. I'm so sorry I didn't catch that thread sooner. I was online at about 3am this morning just trying to do some clean-up. It really makes me mad that the thread even existed. I should have locked it as soon as I saw it, but I thought MAYBE some of the people on this board could talk about their "affection" for Kate in a more responsible way than what happened in that thread. The only reason why I thought that was because us girls on the board lust over the Lost Boys enough that I thought it would be fair to let the guys get some lusting in also.
Thanks for proving me ever so wrong, people.

Hehe. Brand new banner at the moment. It's a filler banner until I can get a few things I need for the idea I have.
Yes, it's me in the banner - I used the "cutout" filler in adobe photoshop on purpose. Can anyone guess the movie reference I made in the banner?
Also, it's pretty much flat out obvious that if you curse out a mod, you get banned. Lately, that's all I've done because if you're gonna curse me out, then there's no need for you here. The same guy who said the "BITE ME!!" also said in another PM "You need me more than I need you." Ha! If that were the case, the guy wouldn't be here. Seriously, as mean as it sounds, if you're going to cuss a mod out, you're proving your not worth being here cause it probably means you'll curse one of the members out. So, automatic ban, no matter what.

edit this is what gerties said. (http://lost-forum.com/showthread.php?t=12)
Language: Please keep it at the PG-13 level. If you have to wonder about a word, chances are it's probably not appropriate. Remember, the Thesaurus is your friend and it will help you look a little smarter to boot.

10-16-2005, 01:40 AM
Well... if you want to get technical, if it was at PG-13 movie standards, we could say f*ck. But only once. (I totally stole that from Be Cool)
I guess I'll just... wait until a mod comes. Better safe than sorry. :)
pftsobfreak
10-16-2005, 01:42 AM
I've seen Mods say 'ass' and 'damn' and 'hell,' but that's it. Kind of OT, but in PG-13 movies, they can only say 'f***' 3 times before it's R-rated.

I was wondering when you were going to notice. :rotflol: I agree with Sandy, ass is not overstepping PG-13. Infact, I have seen PG movies where they said 'ass' NOT referring to a donkey. ;) But we should wait until a Mod confirms.
Wagsy
10-16-2005, 12:45 PM
I have had an avatar that says "Bite my shiny metal A**" in the past, and I did consult a mod when I made it. According to Gertie, if you have to think about it, chances are it's not approriate.
Stace, if the "bad ass" in your avi makes you think twice...you can always change it to "bad a**". I have no objection to people exercising a little self-censorship :)
Stace
10-16-2005, 06:36 PM

Well, we've talked about it, and unless we get further notice {which we'll pass along to you guys if it changes}, ass is ok- so long as it's not used in a derogatory manner towards another member, of course.
So go ahead and ass it up. :p

you know what i think about swearing? we should be allowed to say on the boards everything they say on lost. it's common language that we all hear from the show and accept (because if we didnt accept it we wouldnt be here), so that could be used as a guideline. no f bombs or anything!
*gasp* Sounds kinky, Gabs. :p

I think the Lost guideline is pretty much what we're going for... it's pretty much along PG-13 lines, right?

Raven O'Reilly
10-19-2005, 01:43 PM
I've been letting "ass" and "damn" go. It depends on the situation, I guess. If you're going to curse up a storm in your post, then I'm editing all swear words to something silly.
I guess go by what is said in Lost as a general term, though I'd refrain from using "bitch" just because it's more vulgar than other little swears like "ass" and "damn."
nsmith12916
10-19-2005, 03:29 PM
What about saying something like: Jet lag is a bitch... I don't think that's all that vulgar... I think calling someone that is wrong, cause that would be trolling or flaming... I can understand the need for a PG-13 Rating here... UInfortunately many of us don't keep that standerd.
Raven O'Reilly
10-19-2005, 03:41 PM

I am starting to get fearful here. So many people have gotten banned or "removed" It makes me afarid that at any moment I could get banned for only a slight infraction, even...
This forum is starting to, for lack of a better word, self-destruct.

Is it really that difficult for people to express themselves without resorting to swearing? Why not just pretend you're in a "real world" situation - such as a place of work, and act (speak)accordingly.

"So many"? "Afraid"? I hope you are joking or are being somewhat disingenuous, otherwise this is coming across as slightly paranoid. How many have been removed (not including those who asked to be) compared to the 4,456 active participants? If you are afraid of being removed for only a "slight infraction", why not avoid infractions of any kind? Is it that difficult or does it somehow diminish your enjoyment?
If you honestly believe you should be able to write anything you want without repercussion - perhaps this is not the site for you. That's not a black mark against you, or the site, perhaps it's just not a good match.
The forum is starting to "self-destruct"? You've got to be &%^$ing kidding! (*that's a joke by the way!*). How so? By enforcing a bare minimum of common sense and civility? These rules, IMHO, are the only way to keep the forum from self-destructing. You want to see self-destructing firums ... try visiting one without rules/MODS.

I really don't want to sound harsh, I really don't.. but the people who are feeling so oppressed are the teens who seem to be basing their entire social life around this forum. Maybe I'm wrong, but you guys are taking things waaaay too personally. Changes made to the forum aren't to spite you or make your lives miserable. People haven't been banned simply because the mods are picking apart your friend network here and the mods weren't making an example of them to stifle the expression of opinions. It might feel that way, but honestly, it isn't. If they got out of line, they gave the mods no choice but to do what they did. If they didn't uphold the regulations, what kind of example would that be for others who consider going head-to-head offensively with an authoritive figure here?
The mods are not your enemies. They're are just doing their jobs. If you're truly that unhappy here, try out other forums. I'm certain you won't find a place that allows as much freedom of expression and so much user-friendliness as can be found here at L-F.
