View Full Version : Were those Kate's shoes?

When Jack came into the hatch and he was panning the flashlight around at one point we see a pair of shoes that are lined up against the wall. They reminded me of the shoes Kate took off of the dead person in the Pilot episode.
Do you think they were her shoes? Why would Desmond have her take them off and then line them up so neatly? or do you think the shoes belong to Desmond or someone else?
Also showing those shoes in the scene with Jack reminded me of the Pilot episode when we first see Jack and there's a white tennis shoe hanging in the tree.

I think they are her shoe's in the first episodes she had to find a pair of boots to go hiking to the front of the plane. They look like the boots she used. They did look like womens boots, however given Desmonds choice in music he could be wearing womens hiking boots too :)

i think someone actually went back to season 1 and compared them to kate and locke's shoes. they are locke's.. which makes sense because locke isn't wearing any shoes when he is being held at gunpoint.

the only explanation I had in my head was that they are locke's shoes. Kate got pulled down off of the rope, we didn't see locke go in, i dont prescribe to the notion that he went in another entrance, come on. I think they didnt show him go in so there was some mystery as to his wellbeing, and then having him surprise Jack is a surprise because we dont exactly know hes down there yet, but we all thought he was.
anyways..... i think they are locke's shoes, and he took them off so that he could sneak around quietly because he knew someone/thing was down there

I'll have to rewatch the end. I didn't notice that Locke wasn't wearing any shoes at the end. I just remember those boots Kate took off the dead guy to go hiking. I think it was that scene with Locke and the orange.

Wait I didn't notice Locke not wearing shoes when he is being held at gunpoint. I don't remember them panning down to his feet, where is this at?
My mom (which usually isn't very observant of every little thing in the show) says that those aren't Kate's shoes. I don't think they are either now that i've watched it several times. I'm not sure though because you know with shows they tend to switch things around and it's possible they gave her another pair of shoes that look alot like the first pair at some point. Who knows!

Well it could be Kate's shoes but i doubt it because Locke wasnt wearing any shoes, it was his shoes i think, the question is not whos shoes it is, the question is why would he take it off!

maybe he left them as a sign to anyone going in that he was there....but then im sure he hasnt got his name in them so nobody would guess they were his anyway...ok, i'll shut up...im not made from this type of thinking!

Kate's the first woman that shows up in your hatch for 4 , 8 or 16 years (however long he's been down there)...what's the first thing you're gonna try. Baby steps, "I'm sorry, but you'll have to remove your shoes". Later he challenges her to a game of strip poker. She's already down 1 article.

i found this look: from the bible.
God called to him out of the bush, "Moses, Moses!" And he said, "Here am I." Then he said, "Do not come near; put off your shoes from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground."
From the book of EXODUS, note-- an episode title from S1.
(this is when Moses sees the burning bush that wont burn up)
"
in addition to that, at the end when desmond has the gun to locke's head, locke shifts his feet in a manner that barefooted people usually shift (due to the feeling of a cold floor)

this shot shows locke in his sockes (ha) and compares the shoes using the pic from "deus ex machina" that GaryOBX posted. i dont think they are kates shoes:

He probably took them off so he could sneak in.

yes indeed. and as long as we're talking about strange shoe issues, am i crazy or is jack's dad in White Rabbit wearing those same white tennis shoes with his suit?

Good observation!
Okay, I'm convinced they are Locke's shoes although I wonder why he took them off. Maybe to sneak around quietly but they don't seem like particularly loud shoes. Plus, if you do not know what you are getting yourself into wouldn't you want to leave your shoes on to protect your feet. I like the idea that he left them as a sign to anyone that he went in there although he could have done something else.

I don't think he left them there as a sign. They were in a dark spot against a wall. surely he would have put them where he was sure Jack would see them, perhaps right at the bottom of the hatch?
