View Full Version : Was Jack's Wife Lying

I may be mistaken, but when Jack's wife was making the speech at the party during one of the Jack oriented episodes last season, I'm not sure which one, didn't she say that her car flipped over and then was hit head on by an SUV. But in Man of Science, Man of Faith, we learn that SHE was the one that hit the other car, the one with the older man in it. Was she lying. And agian, I might be wrong, so please correct me.
I did a search and didnt find anything about this.
Edit: I think the episode was "Do No Harm".

I'm wondering why the writers would make her deliberatly lie. Maybe they messed up (hard to imagine), or maybe Jack's wife (like most people driving), never believed the accident was really her fault.

I don't get what you mean - if two cars are involved in a head-on collision, surely they both get hit "head on"?

But if Sarah flipped into the path of the on-coming vehicle, then she caused the accident

It all depends on who is moving and who isnt. If she was moving and the other car was stationary, then she was the one that hit the other car. If she was telling the truth, she was the one that was stationary and the other car hit her. But we hear differently in Man of Science, Man of faith.
Either way, didn't her tire blow? so the accident wasn't her fault even if her car did flip (over the median, IIRC) and hit another vehicle head on.

Well, if she had overinflated her tires or been too lazy/negligent to check them for 5 years and they had worn thin, then sure it was her fault.
Either way, what she said in season 1 was spoken from her perspective where she suffered from the accident in the context of Jack saving her.
Even so, what is the point of saying she lied? Does it any way affect the story as we know it?

Agreed. Her car tire blew, car flipped in the median and then hit head on with the SUV.

Maybe she just thought that for the sake of the speech, it would be more dramatic to make it seem like she survived an accident that wasn't at all her fault. Not saying that it was, but maybe by saying a car hit her, rather than she hit a car just sounds better in a pre-wedding speech.
Okay...well I clearly can 't be making any more posts when I haven't had my coffee yet.

I think in the hospital when she was talking to jack about the crash, she was in shock, she did just almost die, so she felt really guilty about crashing and in shock i think people get really down and blame themselves for things, I think that's the only reason theres a difference. I mean when she was saying she crashed into the car in season 2, she was broken up about it big time right, she wasn't exaclty level-headed

Umm she blew a tire, flipped over the median...could be possible her car was still moving but I'm betting anything the other car was moving as well so technically they hit each other. It wasn't her fault and really it doesn't matter what she said it was an accident. And yeah like UConnBigO said, she was probably in shock and wasn't thinking straight.

Maybe they lied in the first place so she wouldnt go to jail.

The episode was indeed "Do No Harm" (http://www.lost-tv.com/transcripts/Do_No_Harm_Lost.htm). Here's the dialogue :
Flashback. [Wedding rehearsal scene. Marc is handing the mic off to Sarah.]
Marc
And here she is, the future Mrs. Jack Shepard.
Sarah
Thank you. Wow, can I get another microphone? I think this one's been drinking. A little over two years ago, I blew a tire out - flipped over the center divider into oncoming traffic, and was hit head-on by an SUV. My back was broken. They all said it was irreparable. And then there was Jack. And he promised he would fix me, because that's the kind of guy he is. Because you are the most committed man I have ever known - because you fixed me, I will dance at our wedding. To Jack, my hero, Jack.
[Shot of Jack examining Boone's leg. Sun enters holding a small stick.]

Also, notice she says "a little over two years ago".

THIS TIME I LOST IT! WHAT'S THE FREAKING DIFERENCE???? TIRE BLOW, CAR FLIPPED, CARS CRASHED! THERE IS NOTHING ELSE TO IT!!!!
these are not the freaking numbers! we can find one million meanings for the numbers, but for that too????????
sorry, but I had to do it... :)

i'm 100% with you, I originally posted to say that this isnt a difference and its a waste of time to talk about it. People read waaay too much into stuff, and think whenever anything is on screen or said, they have to spend like an hour googling every word to find extra meaning

Now wait a minute......I thought this was half the reason this show is great. Everything is connected and points to something else. Like my friend said, this show is based on coincidences....think back to last season. Sure you don't have to go google everything, but everything has a meaning on this show....that's been shown.

so minor differences in a woman's story from when shes in shock in the hospital, to when shes speaking at her wedding should be questioned as her 'lying' as if she has some motive for lying about the story???? come on
we all agree that there are many things that should be questioned, and its fun to speculate, but its pretty useless to waste your time going on about this specific instance

I just googled the word "THE" because they use that word a lot in the show. The first thing that came up was THE WHITE HOUSE maybe that has something to do with the accident.

Not if another vehicle crashed - or threatened to crash - into her head-first and caused the car to flip - you don't just spontaneously flip a car over.

WOW! You mean Jack's hair was that way just over TWO years ago???!!!! Wait, I guess it was only two years between the time he met Sarah and the wedding. At least she got him to cut it. LOL!
It could be relevent whether she was lying if they got divorced and she has trouble with the truth, even if it's just twisting the truth. We all know Jack violently hates lying.

If I was making a speech at my own wedding, I don't think I'd want to tell 300 friends and familiy members that I was the one responsible for almost paralyzing myself and killing another driver.
