Am I the only one who was creeped out when Vincent appeared? He was so still and just plain weird.
That whole thing with Shannon and Vincent and Walt was just kind of shocking, so I actually can't remember the sequence of events, I remember being touched that Shannon was so concerned about Vincent, and her comment that this was the first time anyone had ever asked her to take care of anything, and she wasn't going to have to tell Walt she'd lost his dog (if I remember correctly), and she was running, then she fell, and then, and then, and then
-- and then along came Jones ... sorry, couldn't help myself, line from a long-ago song
but there's Vincent being weird before he became a normal dog again & barked etc. and then Walt, all wet & standing there & we know he can't really be there, but then he said something .... and I couldn't understand one word of it!

PS my vcr/dvd AND my dvr are all on the blink (the LOST curse I think) so I couldn't record last night's eppie to watch again over the weekend.
weigh in please. vincent weirded me out more than Walt. he was like demon-dog or something

I think that Walt "used" Vincent somehow to be able to speak to Shannon ..

I heard they were planning on having an episode from Vincent's point of view. It would be really interesting because dogs can see ghost and more things than any human eye can.

LOL... I know right, but i've actually heard about this before, you know the dogs seeing ghost thing. I also heard that if you take, and this is going to sound gross, take the eye cruds from a dog and put it on the corner of your eye, during the night you'll be able to see what dogs see. I know it sounds crazy, but that's just what I heard.

Oh, I've got to try that out sometime. ;)
Anyway, I was also creeped out by Vincent. He looked like an evil demon devil dog and I was actually scared.

No, Vincent was just a normal looking dog the whole time.

I didn't think he looked too wierd expect he was a little too still.

actually I didn't really mean demon dog, as in evil, he was just spooky. Yes, too still, and very un-Vincent-like (un-yellow lab-like to be sure). He just didn't look right & he gave me a cold chill, one of many I had last night.
Re animals seeing ghosts, bunnies do too. I sent my bunny Madonna home to spend the night with a friend of mine to keep her company. Staycey reported the next day that she was awakened by Madonna thumping, and saw that she was staring and thumping at a corner of the room. When Staycey looked where Madonna was looking, she saw a dark cloud, and had the feeling that it was her grandfather -- because of the feeling of warmth and love that came over her

I think Walt used Vincent to get Shannon to come out into the forest. He "communicated" with Vincent, Vincent runs off into the woods, Shannon has to find him. Once Vincent has got Shannon to the right location, he stops. I'm guessing Vincent is a little freaked out at this point too. He knows his master has called him and probably sees Walt. That might explain why he was motionless for a while. Then Walt frees him and Vincent runs off. Then the scene with Shannon and Walt.
So Vincent isn't some demon dog, he's just as scared by the series of events as Shannon or anybody would be.

I am just going to throw this out there. Perhaps Walt was using his "powers" if he has them, to call Vincent across the island to be near where the raftees raft exploded (or maybe he heard the explosion using his doggy powers) and he is going to find the crew (Mike, Jin and Sawyer) and help them find their way across the island and back to camp. Assuming of course that they don't all die out in the water. But I don't think that's real likely.
just a thought

Vincent weirded me out... you're not the only one.
When I saw him sitting there, I immediately thought of a scene in the movie "Phantoms". There's a golden lab whose back starts to roll, almost in an alien-like manner. Talk about freaking out! I have a golden lab! LOL

I think that somehow Walt used Vincent to communicate with Shannon, as other people have said. Vincent seemed to be on a mission actually. He was just sitting there when Sayid and Shannon came across him and then when they tried to approach him he took off through the jungle, leading Shannon right to where Walt would appear.

I just heard we'll get a second chance at all this (for those of us who couldn't record it like me), they are re-running episode 1 on Wednesday (haven't seen it for myself but one of my coworkers who doesn't watch it said she saw that announcement)

My dog has almost the same expression when me or someone he knows well is under the influence of alcohol. I guess he would do the same thing if i came home staring, talking backwards and water was dripping from my face.

The reason Vincent was sitting still was because Walt was right next to him. He was trying to communicate with Shannon but couldn't or didn't want to reveal himself to Shannon. Invisible Walt took off through the woods and Vincent followed him as any dog would do their master. That allowed seperation from Sayid so he could communicate with her....and yes, the whole thing creeped me out.

Yeah, the same thing happened to me! I was so angry because I missed the first 5 minutes dashing upstairs trying to find blank tapes and none of them worked!
If you wanna know what Walt said I think there's another thread which has the answer!

My dog sees dead people...
Guess I should stop bringing them home.
Vincent did look a little creepy in the shadows. I thought that when I first saw him there.
Now, let me REALLY make some people angry!
My dog better not see ghosts, though if he did I don't know that he would know the difference. He barks at virtually everything, runs off when I specifically tell him to stay, and then doesn't come back. Sound like anyone? Yah, Vincent. That's why I don't much care for Vincent. He is the most problematic survivor. He makes Sawyer seem cooperative. If the boars continue to stay away, and assuming Jin makes it back to the island, we need to see a Korean-style luau (for the welfare of all survivors, of course).
I've always sad Vincent and Walt share a connection of some sort.
