View Full Version : Did anyone think Charlie....

Did anyone else think Charlie was being just a little to positive when he told everyone at the caves that no one was coming. He said there are no others, she started the fire herself. However, he doesn't really know this to be true. He just assumed because there was no one there that she had started the fire. She never said she started it, all she said is: "I thought they'd be here. I just wanted my alex back" (something close to that, I would have to rewatch the epi to be exact) I think that was an assumption that is going to come back and haunt Charlie in the future. We know there are "others", they took Walt.
I also got the impression that Sayid wanted Charlie to stop talking. I think Sayid knows what Charlie is saying is based on an assumption and not fact.
Any other thoughts on this. Just wondered if anyone else felt the same way. When Charlie was talking at the caves, I actually said to the tv, "Charlie shut up, you don't know that!"
I think Charlies diatribe was a little 'strong'. maybe he was just tring to convince himself - maybe he was on the drugs again ( we know he has them). I also think that Shannon and Sayid were acting very starnge in last nights episode. Shannon looked almost posessed at times.

WE know there are
charlie thinks there aren't and he has the right to believe it, she was a nutjob
sayid knows better though, i dont think anyone knows for sure, so he'll let them talk, it will calm them down a bit too

I thoughts everyone was acting really strange in this episode. Charlie, I think he was either on the drugs again or he was trying to convince himself and everyone else that Danielle started the fire and that there were no others coming for them. You know a denile of what could really be happening. Trying to convince himself and everyone else that they are actually safe.
Sayid and Shannon, along with all the others were acting very strange, or so it looked to me. Hurley was acting like he'd fell off his rocker when he was standing beside the hatch saying the numbers over and over. Did ya'll notice that he was acting just like Leonard in the nuthouse?
Strange happenings!

I realize that they don't know about the others. That is sort of my point. He is making all these comments based on an assumption that because there was no one there, then Danielle started the fire. It's not something he knows for a fact, but he is telling everyone that there are no others, that she made it up. I just think that will come back to haunt him in the future. He may have other survivors turning on him saying, "you said there were no others! That it was all made up!"
I realize that in his mind he is positive about what he is saying, I'm just asking, basically, does anyone else think this is going to come back on him eventually?

Do we actually know that it uas the "others" that took Walt? Or a part of Danielle's crew, or ?

Its true Charlie doesn't know what we 'know'. He thinks he killed Ethan and that Danielle is a nutjob who lit the fire herself.
But I thought Sayid was the one acting strange. When Charlie dismissed the 'whispers' he said nothing even though he KNEW they are real. He could have spoken up or taken Charlie aside and told him to keep quiet for now because he doesn't know everything...but someone on LOST actually SHARING something they know without an explosion or a woman in labor to practically force it out of people? Then we wouldn't have a show... :D

I am assuming that the "others" that Danielle spoke of are the crew on the small boat. As for the fire: It was likely started by the crew on the boat, so they could find their way back to the island.
Perhaps they do not have the proper electronics to navigate, or the ones they do have are altered by the strange magnetic field on the island.

Yeah I think it'll come back to haunt Charlie perhaps. And I've been frustrated by the fact that no one on the island seems to want to share what they know or have seen or anything with the other survivors, even though now they've known each other for over 40 days. I'm like damn if I know someone for that long, i'm going to be finding someone I trust to tell them what I know. You know what I mean? Everyone seems to keep things to themselves.
And the only thing I find strange about the fire started on the beach, by anyone (not just the others or danielle) is about the footprints, there were NO footprints? I still wonder why this was! How could you start a fire halfway between the ocean and the jungle and not leave footprints?

I wasn't as surprised about Charlie as I was that Sayid didn't take Shannon seriously when she said she heard whispering in the jungle.

The tide could wash away any footprints.

maybe he was on the drugs again ( we know he has them)
Ooh, good idea. That'd make perfect sense.
And about Charlie acting that way, he was just trying to be positive, right? That ties in with the meaning of Jack's flashbacks.

Sayid said himself (to Sawyer, in "Outlaws" I think) that when he thought he heard the whispers he was exhausted and wounded, that he wasn't sure what he had really heard, if anything. He may have convinced himself by now that it was all in his mind, and anyway, when you're trying to calm someone down, telling them that there are indeed creepy voices in the jungle and that you've heard them too probably isn't going to be much help. People would think he was going crazy.

yeah, but even if sayid had thought that he was hearing things from exhaustion and being wounded, you would think he would start to believe that he really did hear whispering once he found out that Sawyer and Shannon had heard it too.
Or maybe he was just trying not to freak her out.

Maybe the Others started the fire from the boat. They could have set that thing up a long time ago, let the tide wash footprints away, and shoot at that thing with an arrow of fire or something.
I taught Charlie acted a little immature. He had no facts to prove that there are no Others, but he was trying to convince himself too that there are no Others.

Charlie is immature but I'm sure he means well.
Sayid didn't need to tell all the others...just Charlie. He could have told Charlie on the way back to the caves that he thought he heard whispers and he thinks Sawyer may have as well so perhaps Danielle is not completely off her rocker.
But nothing....just like Locke didn't tell HIM when they were at the little plane that there was a recovering addicton on the island.
But then...Charlie should have told Sayid he's a heroin addict...

Or maybe he was just trying not to freak her out. That's what I think. :) He'll probably start reconsidering what happened now, but he still doesn't know for sure - no need to upset anyone unnecessarily - that kind of thing.

Charlie was attacked by Ethan, who was clearly not from the plane. It was kinda disturbing to see him talking about there not being anyone else on the isle.

He may have thought Ethan was alone...if Ethan was dead there was no more threat.
