there has been talk that 108 is about the Japanese belief in the 108 sins of man or something along those lines.

That wall with the odd painting has 42 on it, too. It's pretty easy to see.

In one of Jack's flashbacks (where he races Desmond):

15: In one close shot we see number 15 on one of the seats.
23: I'm not quite sure because the shot is very very short, but i think it was the 23rd row where Jack falls and damages his ankle.

Everyone is saying that the bike speed was 16. But it was going from 15 to 16, so there are two numbers. ;)

When Desmond is making his shake, the level is at 16 ounces. When Kate is being lowered into the hatch she is counting and stops at 4.

There were four tape machines and eight reels of tape in total (shown as Jack looks around).

There are four metric and eight American numbers shown on on the bike's speedometer.

When Desmond first opens the gun cabinet it looks like there are spaces for four silver handguns (but two seem to be empty).

There also appear to be four rifles (and Desmond takes one).

It looks like Desmond's telescope has eight switches.

That's what I found right now. Maybe I'll see more later.

108 relates to buddhist theories that there are 108 sins. it's also the number of beads on a buddhist Mala and, I think on Sikh prayer beads.

108 also has some relelvance regarding measurement from the sun to the earth, it's 108 sun-circumferences away (or something like that) and it's 108 times larger than the earth.

I would guess that 108 has some spiritual meaning in many ancient cultures, these things are rarely confined to one religion or belief structure.

The numbers on Jack's id badge at the hospital were:

75476-67

As best as I can make out.

On second thoughts it might also be 75626-67

I don't think thats a four though. I wish screen captures worked for me.

You know the Lost production staff is probably reading these forums as we speak, thinking, "Where else can we put these numbers?". The numbers have a meaning and they are significant, but the fact that they appear everywhere in every episode is probably pretty meaningless. But if you do need to put numbers on a vial or on a hospital badge to make them look "official" it sure beats using random numbers! I mean look at all the fuss it causes.

The numbers do seem to mean something, but I firmly believe that the creators have only intended us to find the actual numbers, as written, not to count everything we see. For example. The 42 and 108 on the mural were intended for us to find. The fact that the blender has 4 prongs is merely a coincidence. (In fact, I think most blenders have either 2 or 4 prongs, so on that particular one, there was a 50% chance off the bat)

Of course, I could be wrong as nobody knows for sure. This is my opinion, I just feel that there would be no need to put further effort into getting numbers in the show, other than the numbers we have seen. We have ample hints that these numbers are all over without leaving these hidden hints. In fact, though it's interesting to find the numbers in the episodes, they do not add any value to our theories for now. We already know the numbers are everywhere, but we don't know why. I think until we get to a possible why, I'm going to ignore them and concentrate on other possible hints.

Holy COW!! This is so funny! I hope the writers aren't laughing their arses off at us! I was just telling my hubby we all need to get a life. But I'm glad you guys are doing this because it's so entertaining.

I didn't catch all those instances. I even missed the more obvious ones! I'd make a lousy investigator - but the rest of you guys should really look into that career. I'm not being a wise ass. I mean it. :hug2:

Keep up the good work!

I obviously think that the numbers are linked to some stuff but some things are just coincidence i'm sure they didn't think everything had to be linked to the numbers
