The key to the gun cabnet gets magnatized while Jack is staring at a black object. The background looked like the side of a boat to me, could be way off, but definetly wood. I couldn't make out the object but it looked to be on display or something.

its definitely wood. but the magnet thing is pretty powerful if it can draw the key from so far away.... and why is the magnet in the wall...?

So, Jack's key was drawn to the magnet or what ever it was. I was confuesed on that cuz I thought he found it down there.

Why wasn't the metal of Jack's gun drawn towards the magnet???

I would say it wasnt noticeable because it was in his hand.

Plus a small briefcase key is going to be alot easier to move then a handgun.

Also, key's are usually made of brass or aluminum - no rusting and no magnetic pull.

ooo yeah... why wasnt it?... maybe cuz its so heavy? but maybe the key has a bigger meaning?

The key was attracted to the wall because that's where the electricity generator was.

It seems the magnetism coming from that place is very strong.

Is it possible it affected Sayid's/Locke's compass?

And so strong that it affected the navigational system of the flight? But why this flight and not others? Maybe because Desmond has a reason that he wants these people here?

but if it was that strong to attract the plane... then howcome it doesnt attract other metal pieces like the gun or the fuselage?

how do you know the generator was there? plus does electricity attract metal? just wondering... im not genius in physics...

Great observation.

I havent given the magenetism that much thought until now, that is a great point.

What I want to know is why was the wall that protected the magnetic field all cemented up? Remember the buckets of cement? Why did Desmond cement up the wall? hmmmmmmmm

I thought that as well. We know compasses dont work on the island so maybe we now know why. There is a magnictic pull.

If the compass doesn't work due to magnetism, I wonder if the islanders would have ever found the source of the magnetic pull if they hadn't discovered and opened the hatch? Could they have followed the compass needle to the point where the magnetic disturbance was strongest?

ok soo do yall remeber when Boone and Locke tried to bust the window open well could it have not busted because of magnetic pull?? (Sorry if this is a stupid question)

Maybe Des can adjust the strength of the magnetism to his liking when he knows there is something he wants to control...

thats what I thought at first too, but I think the field is actually a side effect of something larger, a power source maybe?
