I just joined today and thought I'd tell people to check out the new flash header on ABC's main Lost page. I was rolling my mouse across all the cast, and low and behold Michelle Rodrigeuz popped up! Took me by surprise, but I guess everyone else was well aware that she's returning this season. So my first post here is moot  :)

In addition, it was announced earlier this week that Quentin Tarantino will be honored with the Action Director of the Year Award for his "Kill Bill" series. Mini biography

Known for tough-chick roles, Michelle Rodriguez is proof that there is a cross between beauty and brawn. Born in Bexar County, Texas on July 12, 1978, Michelle always knew she was destined to become a star, she just didn't know how to get there. Michelle lived in Texas until the age of 8 when her family moved to the Dominican Republic where she lived for two years before moving to Puerto Rico. At 11, Michelle's family relocated for the last time to Jersey City, New Jersey. Although she has been working since 1999 as an extra in such films as Summer of Sam (1999) and Cradle Will Rock (1999), it only took a magazine ad announcing an open casting call in New York for Michelle to decide to finally step into the spotlight. The role was the female lead, the movie was Girlfight (2000). Despite the lack of experience in film and boxing, Michelle auditioned, along with another 350 girls. After various trials inside an actual boxing ring and five arduous months of training in Brooklyn's Gleason's Gym, she was finally chosen to portray the role of Diana Guzman. As soon as the independent film began making the rounds at various film festivals, Michelle began gaining critical acclaim for her performance earning her awards like the Deaxville Festival of American Cinema award for Best Actress and the Las Vegas Film Critics Society for Female Breakthrough Performance. As Girlfight (2000) continued to gain notoriety with its September 2000 release, Michelle was already hard at work with films like 3 A.M. (2001), the blockbuster hit The Fast and the Furious (2001), and Resident Evil (2002). With Hollywood calling her name, the future for this feisty Jersey girl is as strong as the punches she throws.

Trivia:

Was raised in Texas, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and in Jersey City.

Girlfight (2000) was her first acting audition, and she got the role. The Fast and the Furious (2001) was her second audition, and she also got that role.

Is an avid in-line skater.

Didn't have a driver's license before filming The Fast and the Furious (2001) and had to obtain one during her training for the car chase sequences.

Plays the piano.

Has two half-sisters on her father's side.

Has two older twin brothers named Raul and Oscar

Dropped out of high school at 17, but she went back and graduated via an equivalency diploma.

Ranked #77 in Stuff magazine's "102 Sexiest Women In The World" (2002)

Ranked #34 in Maxim's "100 Sexiest Women"(2002)

It was announced in 2005 that she would be joining the second season cast of the hit ABC drama "Lost" (2004).

Personal quotes:

"I think empathy is a beautiful thing. I think that's the power of film though. We have one of the most powerful, one of the greatest communicative tools known to man. It's a form of communication and it's gonna reach you in a way of growth- most of the time."

"I don't want people thinking of me sexually. I don't want people to be like, 'She's hot-looking,' you know? I want them to listen to me for what I am saying. And I think the best way to do that is to sniff my armpits, and like, sit and burp every now and then. It just completely throws people off. I had a couple of offers to do some hot scenes in the shower with some guy and to make it real hot and sexy. The next thing you know, I'd be the next J.Lo or something. But that's easy. I want [success] the hard way."

"My favorite part of my body is my brain. I think no matter what my body looks like I wont be satisfied unless I know how to use it."

"I don't think it's narcissistic at all to love yourself and believe in yourself. I think some people are really scared to do that. I have to. If I don't, I would not succeed in what I do."

"No matter what, people are so narrow minded that it won't ever be Michelle Rodriguez the actress, it will always be Michelle Rodriguez the Latin actress. And it's just something that I have to live with, because of the fact that people need labels to understand things. I can't even get into this ignorance that I'm dealing with. So I just ignore it, you know? Ignore the ignorance."

_______________________________________________

I just joined this website and was wondering what you had posted about Michelle. I have enjoyed Michelle as her acting career has developed. She is both a great actress and IMO perfect for her role in Lost. I have read several articles about her character in Lost but will not go into it now since it would spoil your surprise. Suffice it say she will fit right in with the rest of the survivors and their situation.

My site is home grown....I use a 8 year old crappy photo editor that came with a cheap printer, I use an old version of dreamweaver, and I do everything else by hand and slowly....lol. Unfortunately I don't have the money or resources to do a super duper site....but my visitors are loyal, it was the first major Michelle site on the net, the longest lasting, and the most visited, so at least I have that....even if I am missing a few pics MRM has....grr....I'm not angry, really. ;)

Rodriguez Puts Films on Hold for 'Lost'
(Saturday, October 08 12:03 AM)
By John Crook

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Less than six years after exploding into the independent film world as the star of "Girlfight," sultry actress Michelle Rodriguez found herself wading through a dispiriting pile of scripts that cast her as either "the girlfriend" or "the girl who gets captured."
She decided to get "Lost" instead.

Rodriguez, who joined ABC's Emmy-winning Wednesday drama last week, says it wasn't hard for producers to convince her this was a high-quality TV series but she did have misgivings about whether joining a high-profile TV series might send the wrong message to Hollywood.

"TV makes you so easily accessible," says Rodriguez, 27. "You don't want to overexpose yourself in the wrong way, and that's what I was scared about. I didn't want people seeing me every week and not getting the right idea about my career and where it's going -- directors especially. I worried about that, because for an independent film career especially, they don't want someone who is as well-known as a TV star. But I just really trust these guys, and I'm like, 'OK, I'm holding on. Take me for a ride.' "
So far, she's still acting largely on faith. Her character, Ana-Lucia Cortez, was introduced last May in a three-minute flashback scene in the airport lounge, where she chatted with Jack (Matthew Fox), and we learned, among other things, that she held a seat in the rear of the doomed flight.

Ana-Lucia seemed very feminine and flirtatious in that flashback scene, but "Lost" fans are seeing a whole different side of the character this season.

"She's a cornered animal, a total warrior: a fighter, take it down, matter-of-fact, all about survival," Rodriguez says of her character, who is living with another group of people on the island. "These people don't have a lot of the amenities that the people [in Jack's group] do, so they are constantly fighting for their survival."

The actress insists she has very little idea what lies in store for her character, but she looks forward to what may be an inevitable reunion with Fox's character.

"I think that connection [between the 'old' and the 'new' Ana-Lucia] is going to come whenever my character finally meets Jack, because that's the only person she will recognize from the plane," Rodriguez says "That will call into question the whole issue of what kind of person she is really, because this whole barbarian side of her is definitely a self-defense mechanism. How will she feel when she sees Jack, who is someone she trusts? I have no idea what that will be like -- and having said all that, at this point, I don't even know if they are going to meet at all."

In fact, the actress claims to be unsure of whether she even qualifies as a new "series regular" on "Lost."

"It's still kind of up in the air, if only because the show itself is very unpredictable as far as how long anyone is going to last," she says, laughing. "I'm not comfortable suggesting that my character is more important than another one, because 'Lost' isn't that kind of show. Every week you focus on a different character, so it's like there is no 'lead.' Different characters take charge in different situations, but it's everybody's story."

While she waits to see how things play out for Ana-Lucia, Rodriguez is more than content to recharge her personal batteries on the North Shore of Hawaii, where she had spent four happy months while filming her 2002 movie "Blue Crush."

"Living on an island as beautiful as Oahu, I wouldn't want to live anywhere there is clutter or city life," Rodriguez says. "It's so beautiful out here. It's just peace. Even if I have to drive two hours to the studio, when it comes time to film flashback stuff, it's just paradise out here the rest of the time. Strip it all away and this is what you get.

"I love looking at an ocean that's alive, not stagnant. The waves in the winter are just amazing, and they give me energy. This is a place where you can just stop: stop partying, stop living crazy, stop answering your phone, focus on your work and just, like, regenerate. Some people can't stand it for more than two weeks, but they're also paranoid about social interaction."

That sounds a whole lot more laid-back than how she describes herself when she made her explosive big-screen starring debut in "Girlfight," playing driven female boxer Diana Guzman.

"At that time in my life, I actually was way more aggressive than that character," she says. "I had to downtone myself. I was in a very angry stage, didn't like anyone telling me what to do. I hated that I had been spat out into a system where I had to follow rules and guidelines. My teenage years, my misery of existence, lasted a lot longer than it does for most teens. Growing up, I was, 'Why am I here, and why are all these people trying to tell me what to do?' It was anger all the time, like one of those punk-rock kids you see on TV."

She pauses, then laughs.

"Oh, honey, that's gone now. It was all part of growing up."

In her downtime, Rodriguez continues working on what she calls her passion project, a film for kids called "Dreamfighter."

"I have been working on it for about two years," she explains. "Think of it as 'Goonies' meets 'The Neverending Story' meets 'Constantine.' In this industry, most adult stuff just bores me. It always comes down to sex, jealousy, power, and it's just so boring. That's why I've been focusing on kids and wondering why so many kids have gotten so absorbed into this reality of today.

"It seems as if every kid I talk to has forgotten how to use his imagination. That's sad, and it's scary to me that there's only one movie out there for the kids to really lose themselves in a fantasia-land, and that's 'Harry Potter.' That's kind of pathetic. Where is our future going? I'd like to go around the world and talk to kids everywhere."

I understand her. She's a film actress. An award winning film actress. She would be stupid if she didn't think of her career beyond Lost. I don't think she has nothing to worry about. She's an intelligent woman, she has a production company, a deal with Stan Lee and Lost is going to help her in her career. In Lost she can show a different side of her acting. She can't play the tough girl forever in the series. She has to play different emotions. That's why I'm happy she's on Lost. Maybe the show will help her out of the typecasting rut she's in.

My thoughts exactly....yes, she's really kick ass/tough on Lost right now, but I'm hoping once thinsg calm down and once we get her flashbacks and her initial arrivale on the island stuff we'll get some good gut-wrenching stuff from her. I KNOW she is capable of so much more emotion onscreen....it's just a matter of someone giving her the material. But yeah, loved that interview so much I had to do a second update for it lol. Thanks for posting it here for more Lost people to read!

I have a question about Michelle's casting. How did it happen? Did she auditioned for the part? Did one of the producers called her?

Good question, one to which I wish I knew the answer...*sigh*...BUT, I would honestly venture a guess that they approached her...I mean, since she was "cautious", you don't go on an audition if you don't want/are concerned about the part....and she had to catch up on Lost stuff once she got it....makes me think they approached her, she watched, liked what she saw, talked it over with them/her people then decided to go for it. That's my thoery....besides, JJ said he was a fan of hers....so makes me think he sought her out, not the other way around....the idea also that maybe she did't flat audition but heard about it and went in for it also seems unlikely b/c of the catching up...it's not like when she heard about Resident Evil being made and told her agen "I have to be a part of that."...she obviously wasn't a regular viewer or anything....

P.S...here's the People pic ya'll are talkin bout (ouch, that's a nasty bruise on her leg, they must be puttin her through the ringer right off the bat...well, obviously....besides she almost always does her own stunts so I'm not suprised...the only thing I know she didn't do was the surfing for Blue Crush, she was brought into the film like 3 weeks before filming so they didn't have time to teach her....the jetski stuff is all her though, scary....that wave was massively frightening...I know I wouldn't have had the guts to do that...I know that anything her double does is also usually b/c the studio or network now won't allow lol):

Leigh, thanks for answering my question. You probably right, they'd probably aproached her. I can't actually see her going to an audition for a tv show.

That pic of her is amazing. She should smile more often. How can people say she looks fat and butch? pfffttt! Do you have the article?

Leigh, I have some pics of her from People en Español but I'm horrible at scanning stuff and maybe you have them.

Michelle Rodriguez

The newest Lost star tells us what she's learned from lions, the business and Hasselhoff

Wednesday Oct 12, 2005 6:00am EST

She's played a boxer, a drag racer and a S.W.A.T. team member, so it should have come as no surprise when Michelle Rodriguez's Lost character turned out to be one tough castaway. In real life, the single actress, 27, is just as fearless and outspoken as the women she has played since her big-screen debut in 2000's Girlfight. She talked to PEOPLE about bratty Hollywood types, dropping out of business school and her childhood Knight Rider fantasies.

Were you a Lost fan before you joined the cast?
I loved the show. Lost is like watching a movie that keeps going and going. The only thing that I hate is that it has that soap opera "To Be Continued ..." thing. I always want a show to be over when the screen says "The End."

How did you feel about moving to Hawaii?
It was scary, but at the same time, I'm a gypsy. I can't spend more than three months anywhere. That's the scary part to me: I'm actually going to have a 9-to-5 – well, 6-to-5 – real job. It's a serious responsibility: getting to work on your own, getting your own house. The reason people in Hollywood seem so bratty is because they're spoiled – usually the studios pay for your house and living expenses while you're working.

How did you get into the business?
I was living in Jersey City, N.J. I had been doing extra work for about two years and I never had the cojones to get up and go on an audition. Girlfight was the first audition I ever went on, and I got it. It was a noon cattle call and I got there about four hours late. I didn't think I had a chance. I was so scared of everything involved with it.

Who inspired you to start acting?
I looked up to Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis – those were my guys. And, I must admit, even David Hasselhoff when he was doing Knight Rider. I used to sit in my cardboard box with my fake steering wheel and I used to pretend I had KIT and I'd use my little calculator watch to talk. That was my world. I like to go into fantasy lands where you get to explore different realms.

You dropped out of business school, right?
Yeah. The thing is, you stand there on 42nd Street in New York City and people are bumping into you like, "Get out of my way." At the end of the day it was like, I don't want to be that girl who's sun-deprived until five o'clock in the afternoon. I was like, "Screw you, Drake Business School!"

You live in Los Angeles now?
Yeah. It's my office. That's how I look at it. I have a house in Jersey, right near the Delaware Water Gap. My godson lives there with my best friend and her husband. They take care of it. I call it my little ranch. It's 28 acres of pine. It's really nice and I never get to enjoy it. I've had it for three years and I've only been there for three months.

It can be difficult to meet solid people in L.A.
Duh. That's a given. The first question anybody asks you in L.A. is "What do you do?" It's like, "I work to chill, man. That's what I do." Once you stop caring about what people think and you're sure of where you want to go, it all comes together. It took me a long time to come to that place, but I'm here.

You shot the upcoming horror movie The Breed in South Africa. What was that like?
It changed my life. I did a safari for five days in Pinda. Do you know how amazing it is to sit 10 feet from a lion and it completely respects your space because you're respecting his space? It makes you realize these guys only eat when they have to. I will never go to a zoo as long as I live.

I love MR, I've seen most of her movies. Girlfight, Blue Crush, The Fast and the Furious, Resident Evil, and S.W.A.T.

I don't really like the character of Ana, cause she's beating on my Sawyer. Lol. But it takes a good actress to get you to love to hate their character. :D We really don't know too much about her yet, so I'll reserve my judgement on her (Ana). I still like MR, just thought I clearify. :)

Indie film star takes 'Lost' route

BY JOHN CROOK
Zap2it.com

October 19, 2005

Less than six years after exploding into the independent film world as the star of "Girlfight," sultry actress Michelle Rodriguez found herself wading through a dispiriting pile of scripts that cast her as either "the girlfriend" or "the girl who gets captured."

She decided to get "Lost" instead.

Rodriguez, who joined ABC's Emmy-winning Wednesday night drama full time this season, says it wasn't hard for producers to convince her this was a high-quality TV series - "They just showed me the first season on DVD," she says - but she did have misgivings about whether joining a high-profile TV series might send the wrong message to Hollywood.

"TV makes you so easily accessible," says Rodriguez, 27. "You don't want to overexpose yourself in the wrong way, and that's what I was scared about. I didn't want people seeing me every week and not getting the right idea about my career and where it's going - directors especially. I worried about that, because, for an independent film career especially, they don't want someone who is as well-known as a TV star. But I just really trust these guys [on 'Lost'], and I'm like, 'OK, I'm holding on. Take me for a ride.'"

Rodriquez as Ana Lucia

So far, she's still acting largely on faith. Her character, Ana Lucia Cortez, was introduced last May in a three-minute flashback scene in the airport lounge, where she chatted with Jack (Matthew Fox), and we learned, among other things, that she held a seat in the rear of the doomed flight.

Ana Lucia seemed very feminine and flirtatious in that flashback scene, but "Lost" fans are seeing a whole different side of the character this season.

An unpredictable character

The actress insists she has very little idea what lies in store for her character, but she looks forward to what may be an inevitable reunion with Fox's character.

"I think that connection [between the 'old' and the 'new' Ana Lucia] is going to come whenever my character finally meets Jack, because that's the only person she will recognize from the plane," Rodriguez says. "That will call into question the whole issue of what kind of person she is really, because this whole barbarian side of her is definitely a self-defense mechanism. How will she feel when she sees Jack, who is someone she trusts? I have no idea what that will be like - and having said all that, at this point, I don't even know if they are going to meet at all!"

Enjoying the scenery

While she waits to see how things play out for Ana Lucia, Rodriguez is more than content to recharge her personal batteries on the North Shore of Hawaii, where she had spent four happy months while filming her 2002 movie "Blue Crush."

"Living on an island as beautiful as Oahu, I wouldn't want to live anywhere ... there is clutter or city life," Rodriguez says. "It's so beautiful out here. It's just peace. Even if I have to drive two hours to the studio, when it comes time to film flashback stuff, it's just paradise out here the rest of the time. Strip it all away and this is what you get."

A bad girl no more

That sounds a whole lot more laid-back than how she describes herself when she made her explosive big-screen debut in "Girlfight," playing driven female boxer Diana Guzman.

"At that time in my life, I actually was way more aggressive than that character," she says. "I had to down-tone myself.

Spotlight on:

Michelle Rodriguez plays combative newcomer Ana Lucia on Lost

- Won the 2001 Independent Spirit Award for Best Debut Performance and the 2000 National Board of Review Award for Breakthrough Performance of the Year for her first lead role in Girlfight.

- Other films include S.W.A.T., Resident Evil, Blue Crush and The Fast and the Furious.

Leigh, you should star a picture thread for Michelle Rodriguez.

I think I will....I PM'd a mod about creating both a Ana Lucia and Michelle Rodriguez subforum in their appropriate sections, due to the fact that she is now a regular and one that has been and will be more prominantly freatured on the show than half of the actors/characters that have their own threads right now....on top of that, the Ana Lucia and Michelle Rodriguez threads in the "Others" sections are the most busy of any other...so, it would only seem reasonable....it's been a couple weeks now and I've gotten no response....maybe you guys should also drop them a note....but anyway, Yariene....I'm running off to do one now!

Anywho, that's funny what Lindsay said about one of the 50 new faces....I hate it that she's been doing her thing for like almost six years and has been in a hugely praises independent film, and 2 major blockbuster films (TFATF & SWAT) and a handful of other mildy successful films, but no....she's a "new face" just b/c she's on a hit tv show now. lol. (It's kind of like when Gwen Setafni won "best new artist"...it's like, the chick has been brill and successful for a dozen years.) Ah well, heck any more publicity she can get that'll get her more roles is fine by me....it just feels silly is all.

I agree 100%, but I also understand that LOST may be considered her first venture into the US's more mainstream viewership. No fault of her own, but most of those movies catered to a more limited/specific audience (*read: my mother had never heard of her*). Not to be lost in the discussion is that Inside TV still needs to come up with "50 new faces"! I imagine quite a few liberties were taken when compiling that list.;)

Leigh
10-25-2005, 07:39 PM
Yes yes....I asked....well, I actually asked a couple stupid questions that I would have loved to gotten answered, but I knew I had to ask something noteworthy or intelligent in order to have it read, so I asked something along the lines of which actresses she looks up to/admires or something, and her response was (after saying my name and thus making my year) that she really admired ones like Drew Barrymore and Angelina Jolie who are strong and who do their own thing and don't care what people think....something along those lines.

Like I said, I hated to ask such a generic question....but I knew that's the only way I'd get one on...lol. To this day I'm PISSED that I don't have the video...*sigh*

Leigh
10-26-2005, 07:13 PM
No.

Don't EVEN get me started.

Ok, I'm getting started...I don't really get that either...I mean, my site was the first major site out there about her. When I started it 3 years ago there was one other site that had like 1 page to it and little to nothing on it. Mine was the first full fansite and has been every since the largest and most visited...I just don't get why I've heard nothing. To be completey honest, I'm not suprised if she's affraid to, thinking I just another numnut crazed fan like some I've encountered. She has some very intelligent and good-hearted fans, but she has alot of....well the opposite we'll just saw as well. She might be worried about contacting me by email for fear I'd give it out. Wish there was some way I could contact her...but alas....no.

Maybe someday....*sigh*

The closest I've come is a like 2 people who I truly believe genuinely knew/know her (unlike the many I've heard from that claim to), as well as recently the casting director for a new project she's working on. Still unsure of the legitimacy on that one, but she did provide me with some info about the project that was till now unknown anywhere...so....who knows....*shrugs* She could have visited it a few times and be very into it and cool with in and appreciative and such and just not want to contact me b/c she is affraid how I'd act or else she's seen it and thinks I'm just another dorky fan who she might roll her eyes at, or she's never seen it at all. I wish I knew which it was.

I for one never started the site from crazy-fan point of view...I've been all about the industry forever now and I saw her in Girlfight and wanted to somehow promote her through some means to get her name out there b/c the director in me knew she could be such a huge star...so I started the site....plain as that, yeah I'm a fan but I'm a creative person first and foremost....I think that people who create fansites get a certain stereotype that if they met the celeb the celeb thinks they'd scream and cry and be all out of touch with reality/stalker type lol. The truth is I would love the opportunity to sit down and meet with the actress and discuss some creative ideas I have and hear the ones she has....

....ah well, I suppose I'll just have to get my ass into the biz as quickly as possible for THAT to happen.

hinemoa
10-26-2005, 09:18 PM
Well, I hope that you get some acknowledgement one day. The site is wonderful. I'm sure if she's seen it she's nothing but flattered! And ya, get your butt in gear and give this girl the roles she deserves!:)

Leigh
10-26-2005, 11:04 PM
Workin on it....I have like....2 films ideas out of my 5 or 6 that would have her...one could get her an Oscar....the other would be a blockbuster and similar to the kind of stuff she does....and the Oscar one...well, trust me....I would SO push this girl...I know she can blow us away...which is why it pisses me off she seems to hold herself back (on top of getting crappy roles)....there's like an occasional and rare moment in a couple of her silly films that I pause it and go, "THAT'S IT!" and know that if she did THAT more....she'd be a great actress/award worthy....

....now if only I could stop having to work at my mundanely horrid job so I could actually have time to write the damn scripts.

Un Chin Magazine Celebrates 400 Years of Quixote

PR Newswire

NEW YORK, Oct. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Un Chin Magazine continues a 400-year celebration of Cervantes' immortal interpretation of the artist, the dreamer, the entrepreneur -- brought to life through the work of top photographers designers and writers in their end-of-year issue: Quixote. Quixote serves as the umbrella novel for the literacy issue. As Editor in Chief Ramon Veras explains, "It was the first novel printed in Cuba after the Cuban revolution for distribution to the masses; and for the 400-year-anniversary, the Venezuelan government printed a million copies to be distributed for free. So this is very much a book for the people. While Cervantes is compared to Homer and Shakespeare, his work ranks with the Iliad and Hamlet as far as international acclaim and relevance also making it the ideal book for the New Culture."

The Quixote issue features actress Michelle Rodriguez on the cover, photographed by renowned shutterbug Cesar Vera. Rodriguez is currently starring in the hit Emmy Award-winning TV series LOST...

Exclusive Trailer: BloodRayne
Preview the game-to-film adaptation starring Kristanna Loken.
by IGN FilmForce (ff_mail@ign.com)

November 11, 2005 - There's a new trailer for BloodRayne (http://filmforce.ign.com/moremovies/objects/574467.html), from perennial games-to-film helmer Uwe Boll (House of the Dead (http://filmforce.ign.com/moremovies/objects/40185.html), Alone in the Dark (http://filmforce.ign.com/moremovies/objects/376287.html)), and we've got an exclusive first look for ya here on IGN. Check it out below...

BloodRayne is the origin story of the title character in Majesco's popular videogame. And it goes a little somethin' like this: It's eighteenth century Romania and Rayne, a young dhampir (a half-human, half-vampire), is prone to fits of blind blood rage but saddled with a compunction for humans. Rayne is out to avenge her mother's rape and murder by her father, Kagan, King of the Vampires.

Orphaned and forced to find refuge in a circus freak show, Rayne doesn't discover her true abilities until the night she tastes human blood for the first time defending herself from the circus strong man. Consumed by bloodlust and tormented by her new identity, she transforms into BloodRayne and feeds on the blood of vampires, refusing to take the lives of innocents.

Two vampire hunters, Sebastian and Vladimir, persuade her to join their cause to destroy the most evil and powerful of all the vampires in the land, her father. She races to find the three Talisman organs: a heart, an eye and a rib wrought from her ancestor vampire, Beliar, which Kagan also covets. The Talismans give the beholder the power to throw the earth into darkness allowing vampires to rule forever.

Kristanna Loken (Terminator 3) stars as BloodRayne and Ben Kingsley plays Kagan. Michael Madsen, Michelle Rodriguez and Matt Davis also star. Also watch out for appearances by Meat Loaf (http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/665/665166p1.html#) and Billy Zane. Dig it...

New MR interview: :D

She loves acting tough on 'Lost'
We really weren't that surprised when Ana Lucia put a bullet in Shannon's heart on last week's "Lost."
"You know it was inevitable," laughed Michelle Rodriguez, who plays Ana Lucia.

Since her breakout role in 2000's film "Girlfight," Rodriguez has built a career playing tough chicks, each one more relentless than the last.

On "Lost," she has emerged as the island badass.

"It's either that or be some vulnerable chick in a relationship," she said, "or rip your clothes off."

Ripping someone's face off is more like it.

Sawyer - with whom Ana Lucia has an immediate if slightly spiteful sexual chemistry - called her "Rambina" (one of the kinder names he used for her).

Then he threatened to kill her. But that was after she socked him in the jaw and tossed him in a ditch.

But it's all foreplay.

"You never know with two people who are complete opposites - one responsible, one a complete joker," said Rodriguez. "It's hot when two polar opposites get together. I think it's more interesting that way."

Producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof are indeed cooking up a love "quadrangle" between Ana Lucia, Sawyer, Kate and Jack.

In a future episode, we'll see Kate hovering tenderly over a still ailing Sawyer.

"Our goal was to have more romance in the show this season," said Cuse. "We're very much going to explore the relationship between the four of them."

On tomorrow's episode, "The Other 48 Days" (9 p.m. ABC), the harrowing days endured by the other castaways is revealed. We'll also see more of Ana Lucia's airport meeting with Jack (Matthew Fox). And Ana Lucia's steely exterior will show signs of strain.

"You see some of that" in tomorrow's episode, she said. "I'm an open book. It's hard for me to keep things inside. And there are times when I'm like, [Ana Lucia] is too intense, she's too tough and every time I start to bitch, I get another script, and boom, the switcheroo."

The puppet masters confirm they're not done pulling Ana Lucia's strings.

"Exactly what is going on with her character will be one of the big surprises this season," said Cuse.

They won't answer any specific questions about the mysterious "others" on the island or the bizarre whispering presence, but Rodriguez has her own theory grounded not in black magic but in technology.

Because they're kidnapping children, she said, "I can only assume that the others are a genetically enhanced race who can't procreate and that's why they're stealing kids. And I'm thinking that the reason why all these crazy whispers are going on is they have some sort of machine, kind of like the Wizard of Oz's, where it's this guy behind this gadget."

Her hypothesis is pure conjecture. But the tenacity she brings to her characters is very real.

Rodriguez, 27, had little acting experience when she attended an open casting call for "Girlfight." She beat out more than 300 actresses also vying to play a female boxer. She spent hours perfecting her right cross at Gleason's in Brooklyn. But she learned tenaciousness long before that.

"At 15, I really felt being a chick," she said. "I felt the pains of it and it really sucked. But chicks are getting harder. And I think it's filled with a little Amazon warrior energy, kind of like a strange little hint of anger, just for being suppressed for so many years. It's that whole woman-hear-me-roar factor."

Among survivors on ‘Lost,’ actress relishes playing tough

Wednesday, November 16, 2005

NEW YORK DAILY NEWS

http://www.dispatch.com/2005/11/16/20051116-Pc-B5-0400.jpg ABC Ana Lucia (Michelle Rodriguez)

We really weren’t that surprised when Ana Lucia put a bullet in Shannon’s heart on last week’s Lost.

"You know it was inevitable," said Michelle Rodriguez, who plays Ana Lucia.

Since her breakout role in the 2000 film Girlfight, Rodriguez has built a career playing tough chicks, each one more relentless than the last.

"It’s either that or be some vulnerable chick in a relationship," she said, "or rip your clothes off."

Ripping someone’s face off is more like it.
Sawyer (Josh Holloway) — with whom Ana Lucia has an immediate if slightly spiteful sexual chemistry — called her "Rambina" (one of the kinder names he used for her).

Then he threatened to kill her. But that was after she socked him in the jaw and pushed him into a ditch.

"You never know with two people who are complete opposites — one responsible, one a complete joker," said Rodriguez, 27. "It’s hot when two polar opposites get together."

Producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof are indeed cooking up a love "quadrangle" among Ana Lucia, Sawyer, Kate and Jack.

In a future episode, we’ll see Kate (Evangelina Lilly) hovering tenderly over a still-ailing Sawyer.

"Our goal was to have more romance in the show this season," Cuse said. "We’re very much going to explore the relationship between the four of them."

On tonight’s episode, "The Other 48 Days," the harrowing period endured by the other castaways is revealed. We’ll also see more of Ana Lucia’s airport meeting with Jack (Matthew Fox). And Ana Lucia’s steely exterior will show signs of strain.

"You see some of that" in tonight’s episode, she said. "I’m an open book. It’s hard for me to keep things inside. And there are times when I’m like ‘(Ana Lucia) is too intense, she’s too tough,’ and every time I start to bitch, I get another script, and boom, the switcheroo."

"Exactly what is going on with her character will be one of the big surprises this season," Cuse said.

The producers won’t answer questions about the mysterious "others" on the island or the bizarre whispering presence, but Rodriguez has a theory.

Because they’re kidnapping children, she said, "I can only assume that the others are a genetically enhanced race who can’t procreate, and that’s why they’re stealing kids. And I’m thinking that the reason why all these crazy whispers are going on is they have some sort of machine, kind of like the Wizard of Oz’s, where it’s this guy behind this gadget."

Rodriguez had little acting experience when she attended an open casting call for Girlfight. She bested more than 300 actresses also vying to play a female boxer. She spent hours perfecting her right cross at Gleason’s in Brooklyn. But she learned tenaciousness long before that.
"At 15, I really felt being a chick," she said. "I felt the pains of it, and it really sucked. But chicks are getting harder. And I think it’s filled with a little Amazon warrior energy, kind of like a strange little hint of anger, just for being suppressed for so many years. It’s that whole womanhear-me-roar factor.

Feisty Lost (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0411008/) actress Michelle Rodriguez (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0735442/) is apparently set to headline another movie, despite her complaints about the roles she’s offered. After finishing up the dubious upcoming movies BloodRayne (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0383222/) and The Breed (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0455362/), USA Today reports that Rodriguez has “signed a deal with Marvel (http://www.marvel.com/) Comics' Stan Lee (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0498278/) to develop a film version of Conan the Barbarian comic book villainess Tigress.” There is some confusion in fandom over exactly what this means; Superhero Hype (http://www.superherohype.com/news.php?id=3636) notes that the character of Tigress belongs to DC, but Comic Book Movie (http://www.comicbookmovie.com/news/articles/2424.asp) challenges that it may mean Marvel’s character ‘Tigra.’

I’m not particularly clear on the current state of Tigra – as far as I know she is still kicking around out there in relatively obscure occasional-guest-spot Marvel land since the collapse of the Avengers West. DC’s Tigress had nothing to do with Conan, either, that I’m aware; she was just a man hunter who eventually renamed herself The Huntress.

Yeah, I'd posted about that rumor on my site, but now it's great to see it's atcually true, though I wish I knew which Tigress it was as well...though apparently it's the Conan one....which is kind of....weird. But cool.

Rodriguez has a fighting spirit

I'm not sure I'll ever forgive Michelle Rodriguez for shooting Shannon in Lost! But I'd like to know more about her anyway.

Until seven years ago, Rodriguez was a Jersey City high school dropout who lived with her mother and older brothers. She says it was her brothers who made her tough. "They were constantly dropping me on my head," she told People. "You have to fight back." While working at Toys R Us, she made additional cash moonlighting as an extra in Manhattan-based films. In 1998, she heard about an open casting call for Girlfight, a movie about a motherless Latin girl who finds fame and romance in the boxing ring. Despite her lack of experience either as an actress or a boxer, Rodriguez auditioned and won the part over 350 other wannabes. To everyone's amazement, including her own, the little film went on to win the Grand Jury Prize at the 2000 Sundance Film Festival.

Ever since, the actress, whose parents came from the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, has specialized in tough-chick roles, including a car thief in The Fast and The Furious and a female cop in S.W.A.T. Though she's 27 and beautiful, she says she has no regular boyfriends. "I really don't think a man could handle me right now," she told Cosmopolitan. Any guy up for the challenge?

Movie News: LOST STAR MICHELLE RODRIGUEZ BECOMES TIGRESS
Star of the upcoming BLODDRAYNE will soon star as famed CONAN THE BARBARIAN villainess TIGRESS
By: SEAN ELLIOTT
Contributing Writer Published: 11/29/2005
LOCATION: The Bowels of Crom

THE SKINNY: In a USA Today article talking about her character on LOST, Michelle Rodriguez states that one of her new projects is the upcoming movie TIGRESS based on a character from Marvel Comics Conan the Barbarian:

Gripe as she might about the roles she's offered, Hollywood continues calling. She has two horror movies in the can (BLOODRAYNE, due Jan. 6, and THE BREED, due later in 2006) and has signed a deal with Marvel Comic’s Stan Lee to develop a film version of Conan the Barbarian comic book villainess Tigress.

The character of TIGRESS, whose real name is Zephra was very long-lived, or, mostly probable, was immortal like her father. Her magic powers were probably derived from her father.

She could transform into a tiger, quite strong and fast, and invulnerable to steel weapons. She also had the "second sight", the power to see the future. When she was imbued with the divine power of the Lords of Order, she was extremely powerful. Her body emitted eldritch energy and she could launch, and resist, tremendous blows of enchanted energy. She could float in the air and she was virtually invulnerable to any weapon, normal or enchanted.

Today in that Toronto Star they printed this Michelle quote...

No wonder his hair is so flat

"I feel like pinning him down and farting in his face. We have that kind of sibling energy."

- MICHELLE RODRIGUEZ explaining that she considers her Lost co-star Josh Holloway, right, as a brother.

LMAO! Poor Josh. I hope she never did that to her real brothers! :rotflol:

Swanni Names Eva Longoria 'The Sexiest Woman in HDTV'

The High-Definition TV Guru Also Names Mischa Barton, Jennifer Garner and Michelle Rodriguez to the High-Def Hot List

WASHINGTON, DC -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 12/05/2005 -- Thinking of buying a High-Definition TV for the holidays? If you're a guy, here are 10 great reasons.

Phillip Swann, a.k.a. 'Swanni,' president of TVPredictions.com, has just named his 10 'Sexiest Women in HDTV.'

Swanni's commentaries on how celebrities look different in crystal-clear HDTV have been featured in hundreds of publications including The New York Times, The Chicago Tribune and on CNN, Fox News, MSNBC and Inside Edition.

"The high-def picture is so clear that you can see acne scars and aging signs," Swanni says. "Not everyone looks good in HDTV -- so to look sexy, you have to really be hot."

So, who's Swanni's sexiest actress in HDTV?

"Desperate Housewives'" Eva Longoria!

Swanni says: "Longoria is so hot in the HDTV broadcast of 'Desperate Housewives' that she must make her co-stars desperately jealous. Her skin simply glows on the HD screen."

Swanni names Mischa Barton, star of "The O.C.," as the second sexiest woman in HDTV.

In fact, he says Barton recently revealed something that only HDTV viewers could clearly see.

"Mischa reportedly flashed her breast in a recent episode of 'The O.C.' The coming-out party was covered by dark shadows in regular analog TV, but it looked magnificent in high-def," Swanni says.

Completing Swanni's 10 'Sexiest Women in HDTV' list are: 3. Nikki Cox (NBC's "Vegas"); 4. Jennifer Garner (ABC's "Alias"); 5. Alexis Dziena (ABC's "Invasion"); 6. Jennifer Love Hewitt (CBS' "Ghost Whisperer"); 7. Camille Anderson (HDNet's "Get Out!"); 8. Gabrielle Union (ABC's "The Night Stalker"); 9. Vanessa Marcil (NBC's "Vegas"); 10. Michelle Rodriguez (ABC's "Lost").

"In 'Ghost Whisperer,' Jennifer Love Hewitt's character can speak to the dead. But in high-def, I think she might bring a few males back to life," Swanni says.

Question: WHEN was Michelle on Punk'd?!

THis makes me mad because we used to have MTV , well it was MTV Canada but it had most of the same show as MTV, and then out of no where they changed it to this stupid new channel called "Razer"! So the only other channel that had the new episodes of Punk'd was CTV... BUT it was on the same time as Arrested Development. So one day they showed all the upcoming people they were going to Punk and there was no one I liked so I stoped watching it. And today I find out Michelle was on it! :(

Anyone know where I can find a video of that episode?

Cool.

Yeah I'd always only had the second part, but this time I finally got to see what ACTUALLY happened....LMAO. I thought it was funny how she ran....I probably woulda freaked too....and I've even heard people criticize her for doing it....BUT she thought it was funny till and took off laughing like "Oh crap!" but, then she realized someone was "hurt" and she was the first one to run over and try to help him and lift the thing of him, and that was cool.

He, btw....did you see the look on her face when that chick finally yelled at her that it was her fault at the "....and that something obviously was you!" moment....I so thought Michelle was gonna go off on her, but she kept her cool. *thumbs up*

The only thing that sucks is they don't have the tird part....hmm....I guess I'll have to get my last section up that I have or something. I just never wanted to post half a file on my site....but know I don't know. *shrugs*

Anyway, coolness. That is awesome. :D

American Film Market: A November to Dismember

Part Four

By ANTHONY TIMPONE

• THE BREED: A killer-dog opus, helmed by former Romero/Wes Craven assistant director Nick Mastandrea. The footage I watched at the First Look suite seemed exciting enough, buoyed by the presence of Michelle (LOST) Rodriguez. Craven executive-produced this South Africa-lensed film. The same country played host to PREY, where lions hunt humans Peter (ROBOCOP) Weller and Bridget (I, ROBOT) Moynahan. Local boy Darrel (DRACULA 3000) Roodt directs.

^^^you gotta blame the media on that one... i really don't get the point why some of those reporters find it really important to make a big deal out of a speeding ticket and a dui arrest of an actor when they should focus more on some important things like helping the family of the murdered kid... it's truly pathetic in my opinion...

I was one of those who at first was like " I hate Ana, cause she is the one who is going to get between Jack and Kate." But then there she was and I just couldnt hate her. I love the character and the storyline and the actress. Amazing.

Of course, I feel so ashamed that I didnt even give Ana a chance. BUT luckily I snapped out of it right away. And now she is definitely one of my favorite characters on the show. :D

As far as ONLY the speeding ticket....if you do not pay it by a certain time, they issue a warrant or bench warrant....which means you have to appear before the court to take care of it/pay them off....apparently her lawyer appeared before a judge on her behalf, plead no contest and she didn't have to show up, instead she just finally paid the tickets through her lawyer. All the DUI stuff is a whole other mess of crap, but I hope this helps ya get the speeding ticket part at least....you don't always have to go to court when you get a ticket, usually you just go to the city offices and pay or mail in your payment (though when my older brother mailed his in they never got it and therefore when he went to renew his liscense a couple months later he had no idea it was never received....we had been waiting for him out in the waiting room and we were like, "Where is he? It shouldn't t ake that long to get your pic taken?" Finally this female cop chick comes out and gets us and we walk into a room and my bro is sitting there handcuffed to a chair and we had to run to his bank and get some cash to pay his ticket so he could be released from the DPS Office....we all thought it was pretty funny. Poor guy, he thought he'd taken care of it. :D) ....anyway, if you pay your tickets there's no problem, but she didn't, so a warrant for her arrest/for her to appear in court was issued but she finally got that part taken care of on Tuesday....

....btw, don't feel bad, it's confusing to me and I live here. :D

thank you so much for explaining! :D but now i have another question: will she might have to go to jail because of i dont know what? and what is about the 29th of december?

btw: i watched girlfight yesterday (i ordered it before) OMG i LOVE that movie! :D its SO great!!!!!!!

mge's right, we don't know if she will or not. IF the LA courts decide that this newest DUI violates her probabtion (which all evidence points that it does seem to), then they could give her the maximum sentence of 6 months per coviction....she has three so that's a year and a half she's facing if they "throw the book at her". This decision will be made at an unknown time, they could decide this now or a month from now, who knows.

Dec. 29th is her court day where she'll appear in Hawaii for this specific recent arrest (the one from the other night where they nabbed Cynthia as well), and a judge will make a decions if she's guilty or not and/or how she'll be punished.

And yes, Girlfight RULES. :D

Isn't it that MR got arrested 15 minutes later than Cynthia not the other way around...

Since i can't say the F word on this forum aloud... I got a little something for the media people who are having a grand time with MR: SMURF you, creeps! You(the media) disgust me! There are a whole lot of important things to talk about than an alleged transcript of an actor's arrest...

I would hate it if the cops release a transcript of my arrest to the media....

Im slowly becoming an MR fan. And im starting to dig where Ana is going to take the show. Her character would be at least described as the one who shakes everything up.

Gotta admit i dreaded the idea of MR being on Lost, wasnt a fan of her previous work. But on Lost shes starting to show dimensions to her acting. And Ana may be a 'love to hate' type character, but she still entertains, and her arc will happen.

Well, good for you, Kools...

I think that the problem with Michelle's role is that she's constantly being type-casted... it's a good thing that she joined Lost. at least some people finally realize what this girl's capable of, not just your typical tough chick...

*thumbs up* that's exactly what I ranted about in the Ana Re-Write thread over in character analysis.....to which someone so intelligently and maturely called me a "Homer." Nice huh?

Yeah, I know exactly what you're saying mge.

I read that, too, Leigh, and boy did it also piss the crap out of me... i tried so hard to ignore all those ana haters and bashers, but no matter how hard you avoid them they almost always find a way to come and suck the crap out of you like mosquitoes... I actually told him how insensitive he was when he posted that little statement... it's like he's trying to pick a fight with you, taunting you... but i'm so very glad you didn't stoop down to his level...
Now that's definitely classy... :)

it also frustrates me how some of these "people" condemn Michelle for doing a stupid mistake like they have never screwed up in their entire lifetime. i hate it. it's just so darn hypocritical of them...

^ Yeah its insane how typecasted she is. I dont think shes even played someone who isnt supposed to be tough. But that also might be because she is a tough kind of chick in real life.

Thats why im liking her in Lost, they are peeling back the layers on the typical tough chick. MR's scene with Goodwyn and Ana's telling Michael what happened to them was some of MR's best work i think.

i actually think its the writers fault for her odd hatred. I mean hating a character is one thing, but shes got a friggin army of angry people after her. I found it a little disturbing, because its so much animosity, its fiction people (no offense to anyone).

But the writers are making her character too bitchy and not remorseful enough. Im pretty sure its given that shes not like normal girls and that shes ballbusting, but they are going past the breaking point. MR herself emodies that toughness, they dont need to overhaul it. I like Ana, but i feel they are treading on dangerous territory with everyone else. I can already tell that they are making her 'Arc' just like Sawyers, the slow introduction of her soft side. But the problem is, with Sawyer they showed him being extremely self loathing and very remorseful of his past deeds. But with Ana, they arent showing us her emotions, besides anger and confusion.

I think that either her flashback of her being shot is extremely brutal and the person she was before that was very different OR they start making her character more compassionate and remorseful.

But im definately an Ana fan, shes got so much potential, and clearly since they've built her up so much, shes gonna be important down the road. im just hoping they wont totally screw her character over.

If you haven't noticed... i think that Ana's being remorseful in episode 9... you know where she and jack were having that little conversation thingy where she tells jacko his way of convincing her that nobody hates her...

that little dialogue cracks me up big time... it's a double-edged sword if you're going to analyze it... perhaps a shout out to all the AL haters... lol

but i think she was darn good in that scene... you can almost feel her pain. her acting was quite convincing...

Yeah im betting that Danny was probably the love of her life, and the baby dying probably tore down everything. They will do somthing extremely traumatic, just like when they showed Sawyer as a little boy and listening to his parents being killed, and watching his father walk in.

Ten Sexiest Women of Television
By: Mark Runyon | Category: PM Television Commentary | 12/18/05 | 12:00 AM

10. Michelle Rodriguez (Lost) - She's been a boxer (Girlfight) and a surfer chick (Blue Crush). Now she's the police officer with more issues than National Geographic, serving as one of the newest discovered castaways on Lost. Rodriguez is the Vin Diesel of women actors. Her muscles are popping out, tattered shirts with grease stains, and she'll tie you to the bed so she can have her way with you. She always has that sneer plastered on her face as if to say, "I'd lose a lung before I'd date you, but I'll happily kick your lily livered ass." Ironically, Anna-Lucia arm-wrestled this spot away from everyone's favorite college co-ed, Shannon (Maggie Grace), when she capped her in the jungle last month. Ah, now we have motive. Do you still think it was an accident?

You seem very quick to feel insulted yourself, but you insult other people left, right and center, apparently without a second thought. You called M.A.D.D. "pitch-fork carrying psychopaths". Oh the irony of insulting REAL women who've lost REAL children, while passionately berating a bunch of Lost fans for not feeling any sympathy for a FICTIONAL character who lost a FICTIONAL pregnancy on a fricking FICTIONAL T.V. show!

To me, M.A.D.D. is made up of women I admire, women who've spearheaded a public education campaign, and lobbied for legislation to impose penalties for drunk driving that have helped reduce the number of drinking-related deaths of REAL people from more than 26,000 in 1982 to 17,000 in 2004. Those women are real-life heroines to me. A young actress with big ideas and (seemingly) not very good control of her personal demons, not so much. A FICTIONAL cop who works her anger out by browbeating people, who thinks nothing of leaving a wounded person to die in the jungle, and whose reaction to killing an innocent person is to wave a gun around and hold everybody hostage while she tries to figure out how to get herself out of the mess she made, even less.

Nookoo....I'm fastly becoming a fan of....YOU. Everything you've said is so spot on.

*hugs*

Anyway, YES....ACTUALLY she has ONCE played a non-tough role. A movie called Control with Ray Liotta and Willem Dafoe. The movie...well, sucked. It started out fantastically and the concept was spectacular....but the diretor just....he just lost his mind and the film went so down the pooper. The pacing and everything felt so...amateur-ish. But anway, she was great in it....she played Liotta's love interest....she didin't once get a bad or tough attitude or anything, not once...she was soft spoken and sweet and flirty and cool and completely normal....no punching or scowling or threats....just a normal chick. It was a great change of pace to see her like that (which is why I was so tickled to see her do that during her first appearance on Lost).

And, Dezdemona I stick to what I said. M.A.D.D. started out as a bunch of REAL women with loss who wanted to accomplish something good yes, but over the years it HAS become a propaganda machine hell bent on seeing even the slightest offender locked up and the key thrown away. What started as a good-intentioned and personal run organization has become a, I'll say it again, pitchfork-carrying, money-hoarding mob that has taken a good idea too far, twisted it, and run it into the mud, therefore defeating and embarassing it's orginal intention (or perhaps it's original intention WAS to do this...who knows?). That is my true belief on that issue and it is my right to say so. And it has nothing to do with Michelle....I've believed this for a long time. Thanks. :)

It's worth remembering that this is a particularly American cultural viewpoint. What's described as a twisted idea above is widely accepted law in Europe. I'm not saying that because its European that it's right, just that there are different norms in different places.

I don't really know a lot about MADD... but one thing i know for sure (i credit my boss for being a former activist and pointing this one out), there are certain "organizations" out there who seem to fit your description...

What's the point of MADD signling out MR for her drunk driving arrest when we all know that there are a lot of people out there who had done worse? Duh, Dubya got arrested for DUI when he was younger right? Why won't they ridicule him?

Trial by publicity isn't nice nor is it the right thing to do...

I agree. A celebrity incident/screw up like this is just the kind of thing some organizations lick their lips and wait for....I just don't like M.A.D.D....I think iti's power has gone too far....they are a group with ties and control over government and politics and that is scary. But ANYWAY, that's just my view on M.A.D.D....and I think they need to shut up and stay out of this and so does the media. Just let the damn courts do their job.

Btw, to lighten the mood, does anyone else remember/know:

Snyder: Fight it if you want. Just remember, lift a finger against me, and you'll have to answer to MOO.

Buffy: Answer to MOO? Did that sentence just make some
sense that I'm not in on?

Snyder: 'Mothers Opposed to the Occult.' A powerful new group.

Buffy: And who came up with that lame name?

Snyder: That would be the founder. I believe you call her 'Mom'.

I'm sorry, but could you provide a reference that indicates that MADD has released any comment on MR? All that I could find is this small piece in the web site of a local tv station.

This seems pretty level-headed and not at all about ridiculing MR. I appreciate people's attachments to MR, but I'm not clear why a defense of MR has to be an attack on MADD. What's the connection?

It was just the fact that they spoke out at all that irritated me....they used it as yet another way to get their agenda out there....a gift? Please....maybe for them. *rolls eyes* Like I said, I don't like the organization's agenda....never have, it has nothing to do with MR....except in this statement they made...which, why DID they make it? Seriously? *shrugs*

My point was that I just don't like the way the media and all of the indivduals involved have handled this....it's become this three ring circus where every day or two later a new bit of "information" comes out that's worse and more descriptive, etc. My rant on M.A.D.D. was just a rant on M.A.D.D. in general. :D

Just like the cops and the LA DA they too had to open their flap and make a public statement about this....why? It's like the only one that hasn't said a word about any of this is Michelle herself/her people....I just want the media, court reps, cops, etc. to shut up and let the judge do his/her job and rule without media spin or organizations making statements about any of it. B/c for some it's none of their business and for others they need to stop leaking this embarassing crap out. I mean Jesus, not even 24 hours after the incident, Michelle and Cynthia's mugshots were plastered all over the internet....what the hell!? These cops must like their "bonuses" they're receiving from the media for casually releasing this inside information.

LIbby42

Ok, I get the general rant part. I find it odd, but it's your right to your opinion. But, respectfully, you don't seem to know as much about how the news industry works as you do about the moving images one. MADD didn't "use" this. Here's how it breaks down. A story comes in over the wire. The local media know that they've got a possible lead and then scramble for someone to comment. They think, who can we get to make our deadline? So they call the organization that has a mission statement solely dedicated to drunk driving. They get a local rep, who probably doesn't know anything more about the story then what she's been told by the reporter and who gives a pretty standard reply, one that they don't need to get an ok from the head office.

What would you do in the same situation? Your job involves focusing on a single issue and out of the blue a journalist asks for you to speak to that issue because it affects a star. So you'd say, no thank you, I don't want to comment? Unlikely.

I'm all for respecting fetishes and have a certain admiration for the tremendous libidinal energy that's gone into consecrating MR, but it does become a bit peculiar when tied to attacks on lobby groups. What's next: an anti-fluoridation in the drinking water campaign?

Why don't you just walk away. Move on, leave it alone. That's all wanted to say. Before any of you get mad, I'm not talking about anybody in specific. Just a general statement. Leigh, I know nothing about BloodRayne. What have you heard about it? Does it looks like a good movie?

Leigh
12-19-2005, 12:07 AM
No. LOL....it REALLY doesn't look good....I just know it's gonna suck. Pun definitely intended. I want SO bad to know that it won't....but it will....it reaks over overblown grostesque violence and graphic sexuality....all to accomplish what it lacks in writing and directing. I think that Kristanna Loken was a piss poor choice, I don't think Matt Davis looks the part of someone from that time period, and the director (Uwe Boll) from what I hear is horrid. BUT, you think all of this is gonna stop me from seeing it? Hell no. I'll pay my 6 bucks and hide in the back hoping no one saw me come in to actually see it. *wink* Seriously though, this movie could have had so much potential...with the right director and lead it would have ruled....Madsen, Rodriguez, and Kingsley will be the only saving graces of this film....but the era it's set in, the other casting, gore, sexuality, and the director will all result in this film being number 4 tops at the box office (if it's even that lucky) and quickly forgotten.

Btw....she said she'd reconsider her sequel stance after this one, which makes me think maybe the film is better than what it's marketed as....maybe I'm totally wrong. Michelle has great taste and I usually agree 100% with her views on filmmaking, so that gives me pause to try to give it more of a chance.....and it also gives me hope that maybe they would do a more modern game like Nazi vamp version like the game....and perhaps since *BEWARE OF SPOILERS* she obviously dies in this film, it would be cool if she came back in the second and she played the uber evil antagonist in the second.

P.S. A smarter choice for such a gorey sick film would have been mid October or even a Halloween release date....but Jan. 6??? Right after the joy of Christmas....I don't know, that was poor marketing IMO.

But still, with all my Michelle fan-ness, I gotta say....as annoying and contradictory as I sound, I can't wait!!! :D

Btw, she talks with an accent (old timey british or something) in this film....that'll be weird/new to see! Wish I could see that darn clip...someone's supposed to be working on getting it downloadable for me....I'll just wait and see though....*anxious*

Ditto, I'll concede....back ON TOPIC....

....is anyone else so SICK of Michelle riding sidecar all the time? Especially to the likes of lesser known/potentialed (is that even a word?) actresses like Kristanna Loken....don't get me wrong the chick seems aiight, I just....don't get it.

Heck, even Ebert agrees....I remember back when he reviewed Blue Crush, he said that he was hoping that Michelle would take the lead part halfway through the movie and that her character Eden would just say screw it about Ann-Marie and go and win the contest herself....he also said that it seems kind of a shame that she has to be the sidekick/isn't given the starring role like she deserves....

....who cares what you think of Michelle....like or hate her, think she's great or horrid an actress....there's one thing that's undeniable....her presence....said it before, I'll say it again....she can be onscreen with ten other actors and all can be more "famous" than she and yet SHE stands out above all of them....doesn't matter what she does, she steals the scene.....THAT is a star....she need s damn starring role. Which is why I'm so glad she's got Tigress coming up (if all goes and STAYS well)....it's be her first starring role since Girlfight....and it'd be helmed by the likes of Stan frickin Lee and Marvel frickin comics baby!

P.S...I also can't wait for Concrete Angels....Michelle worte this one herelf, she got so sick of waiting for good roles so she just wrote her own role....it sounds like a cool concept and I can't wait to see how Michelle will be as a writer/director/producer! The premise is as she describes it a film project that she describes as "Scarface meets Thelma & Louise." "The film is very....nitty-gritty," she explains in a recent interview. "It really shows that female camaraderie that you so rarely see in moves. It's about a rich Jewish girl from the Upper East Side - but she's a rebel, and she leaves her family to go out on her own. Then she meets my character, a Latina from Washington Heights, who quits med school to take care of her family, and now she's hustling. The next thing you know they get together, Thelma & Louise-style, and come upon these kilos of coke. It's just like this action-packed, fun adventure." Michelle is currently doing re-writes of the script. And, if you don't have a clue about any of these films of which I speak....you can view info on each of them and a couple more that she's working on on this page of my site:

Best of 2005: Anime — IGPX
Contributed by Chris Wyatt

Wednesday, 21 December 2005

The Cartoon Network original series IGPX came up with a voice cast right out of an anime fan’s dreams: Haley Joel Osment (The Sixth Sense), Michelle Rodriguez (Lost), Lance Henricksen (Aliens, Alien Vs. Predator), and Mark Hamill (Star Wars), as well as veteran anime voice performers like Wendee Lee, Crispin Freeman, and Kari Wahlgren. But awesome casting alone isn’t what drove IGPX (which stands for “Immortal Grand Prix”) to become such a splash hit in the popular “Toonami” block of programming this past year. It was also an incredibly original concept that integrated wonderfully choreographed racing/combat scenes with gripping character dynamics...

I pay money to see more pics of this shoot. Damn, now I'm not sure who is the womam on this pic...now that I look at it.

Amazing pic! Wow! The Sanateer in me is getting all giddy! ;)

It's definitely Michelle in the picture. Trust me, being an artist, and having tried my hand at drawing her, I can tell it's her. The shoulders are a dead give away, I spent three hours studying them and trying to draw them right! ;) ...the drawing still got scrapped in the end...I'm my worst critic.

As "Lost" star Naveen Andrews sees it, people simply need to wake up.

...Q. Given your experiences with the media, how do you respond to what Michelle Rodriguez is going through now with her DUI arrest?

A. I'm an alcoholic, although I don't drink anymore and I haven't in a long while. It's a very human mistake. It can happen to you or to anyone. Just because she's in the public eye, there's a different kind of scrutiny. I feel a lot of sympathy for her at the moment.

Thank goodness! Someone with common sense!

It seems that both the press and many of the fans have been extremely critical and holier-than-thou over the incident . . . as if MR's arrest is very important to them. Not only that, many have used the arrest to bash both her and the Ana-Lucia character, which makes me wonder about them.

MR is an actress that hardly any of us know about. Why are so many people making such a big deal over the arrest?

mge1979

^I agree. the main culprit in this whole DUI fiasco has got to be the press... they seem to be capitalizing on Michelle's arrest a lot...

I'm really bothered by the way this whole situation is turning out. She made a mistake. It wasn't a smart thing to do and she should've just taken a cab or something but honestly that's all it was. A mistake. Just because she's an actress she's being crucified for this. The police and everyone else says that she should be treated just like everyone else, but she's really not. All the average joe's out there who have been arrested for DUI's don't have articles written on it and aren't crucified for it.

I like Michelle Rodriguez because she's a good actress. I don't know her personally so i don't feel like I or anyone else has a right to judge her. But that's just my opinion. :)

I like her too! Se was drunk and it was wrong though! there's no hiding that but just because she is an actress and has some popularity they are making a fuss over it! I don't support what she did but that doesn't mean that she will keep doing it all the time! People change! I mean we grant grace to so mane criminals and we crucify her for that?

tailee

Yeah I know its like CRAP! I am in no way saying that this is right, but I just thought about it, My friends Bro just had a DUI like a couple weeks ago and the fool totalled his car into a median, glad it was a median not another car. But seems to me that his dumb mistake isnt like as big a deal as MRs amongst his associates. No one is saying fire him cuz he got a DUI and so on(BTW his record is worse than MRs and he isnt locked up)! ( I know thats because he is a normal person and only a mother could love him.) But the press can really blow stuff wayyyyyyy the heak up! Drinking and Driving is very bad and like I said earlier I hope that she is truley treated fairly, and that she really takes a step back and learns from it. But it really irks me how Martha Stewart goes to jail, and OJ and Robert Blake are freakin waking the streets!!!!!!!!!!!! Ya got a liar vs malicious murders.... and the liar gets sent to prison. The justice and media systems are seriously flawed. I think that if they had more strict laws regarding DUIs in the first place less people would get them. Legislative(Proactive) instead of waiting till someone accumulates like 5 DUIs or kills someone Judicial ( Reactive) is what is just messed up about the whole thing. If it were that important to the law they would have established better ones by now about it. Like how bout the second or even after the first you get a heavier sentence. But I could go on and on but anyway... gotta go to class.

Rodriguez Kicks Vamp Butt in 'BloodRayne'

January 5, 2006

"Lost" star MICHELLE RODRIGUEZ puts her kickboxing abilities to good use as a vampire slayer in 'BloodRayne,' a new supernatural action-adventure in theaters Jan. 6.

Based on the popular video game of the same name, 'BloodRayne' stars KRISTANNA LOKEN ('Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines') as the title character, a sexy, supernatural huntress who is an unholy breed of human and vampire fighting the forces of evil in Eastern Europe, circa 1723.

Trained by a secret agency called the Brimstone Society, which hunts down and eliminates supernatural threats around the globe, BloodRayne is confronted by the deadliest of all creatures, the powerful and evil Kagan, King of the Vampires (BEN KINGSLEY). If Kagan gets his hands on three secret treasures, their combined power will give him immortal powers of untold horror.

But at least BloodRayne's got help! MICHAEL MADSEN ('Kill Bill') plays Vladimir, one of the greatest vampire hunters; MATTHEW DAVIS ('Blue Crush') is Sebastian, a warrior of equal standing; and Rodriguez portrays Katarin, who runs the local Brimstone Society chapter.

Also starring MEATLOAF, MICHAEL PARÉ, GERALDINE CHAPLIN and BILLY ZANE, 'BloodRayne' is directed by UWE BOLL ('House of the Dead,' also based on a popular video game).

Watch ET for more with BloodRayne!

here is what Carlton Cuse says about the whole dui thing, which i think is a strong argument for MR getting her own forum.....

Asked if producers have a contingency plan should Rodriguez fail to prevail in court, Cuse says, "We're just going to see how things play out, and we'll deal with it accordingly. She's a really good part of the show. We really value her and her character and hope things work out in her favor."

Hey guys! I found this while just browsing. It's not much at all. It's from when Blue Crush was just coming out and Michelle interviewed Kate Bosworth, so it's kinda mostly about Kate Bosworth, but Michelle said some things I thought were interesting. People COME ON.

Seriously, tell me honestly that amongst friend and SOME coworkers (those you know you can do it around) you do not talk raunchilly or make sometimes HIGHLY inapprorpiate/suggestive comments/discussions.

Be honest, this is silly.

I'd say that someone in the biz has a SERIOUS vendetta against Michelle Rodriguez. There is just too much bad PR for the chick all at once. Somethings going on...this is what you'd call a smear campaign.

When she first started on the show Evie says, "She's fantastic." Cuse has recently said "We value her and her character." and Fox has said "I'm quite fond of Michelle." and "She is NOT getting written off of the show."

Yet now since the DUI you suddenly just HAPPEN to get this stuff which is mostly just hearsay? Please. Since I run the MR fansite, I have read like every article and almost all of her costars and directors have never had anything but fantastic things to say about her....how she's so much fun, hilarious, sweet, and down to earth....and also, a bit crazy/eccentric and wild.

Besides, here's my theory. If what she's saying is referring to girl/girl...I would bet good money that it's meant as sarcasm....there's been a lot of crap in the tabloid lately about her being a lesbian and such (which she isn't....even if she's bi or just "free-spirited", she's said herself she's dated men, and wants to settle down with a MAN, and what kind of MAN she'ss attracted to)...it would be such a Michelle thing to do to turn it into a joke and say "Well, apparently I'm off to go bleep some bleep." Why else would she say that....it's pretty obvious she's trying to be a smartass about all the tabloid falsities out there....and if you can't joke with the people you spend 18 hours a day with about it, then how who the hell can you joke with?

If the bleep/bleep is about a guy....then, well, it's kind of funny. :D

But in any effect....I am doubting the legitamacy of this altogether....especially b/c remember back when those behind the scenes Collision pics and clips were out? The crew seemed to laugh a lot at her and like her....this is just more crap by someone who wants to see Michelle go down. No pun intended. :D

Seriously though, as a serious fan.....all of this bs and attempt at destroying her reputation is actually quite disgusting.

Blarhity, blarg, BLARGH!

Ok, I am frustrated and I hope this is safe place to let it out. I posted up a comment in the thread about this 'Raunchy' article in General discussion. My point was that why do MR's comments even warrant mention? If she was a banker, fine, her comments would be terribly inappropriate. But she works on a TV set, where the lead male actor has skinny dipped repeatedly. Apparently Fox exposing his genitalia to everyone on set is cute and funny, but Michelle making a lewd comment is over the line. And just about every poster in that thread is echoing that false logic.

The blatent double standard inherent in that line of thinking just kills me. Yeah, her comments(if she even said them) are not classy, so what? Must a woman be classy at all times? And it is even worse to me that those that uphold this double standard are women. I thought that we as women had progressed beyond this type of sexist attitude, but apparently not.

Michelle could defeat the terrorists, feed all the hungry children in the world, end poverty, save the world from total destruction, and at the end of the day say "I did a DAMN fine job!" And people would jump all over her for saying "damn", because its a "bad" word.

Rodriguez of 'Lost' Calls for Respect Fri Jan 27, 8:05 PM ET

NEW YORK - "Lost" actress Michelle Rodriguez says she treats people with respect — unless provoked. "My family taught me about ethics and the importance of respecting everybody," Rodriguez tells People en Espanol magazine in its debut "New Hollywood" issue. "But, if someone is disrespectful to me, then we have a problem."

Rodriguez, 27, who plays Ana Lucia Cortez on the ABC castaway drama, is on one of four celebrity covers of the "New Hollywood" issue, on newsstands Feb. 6.

The other covers feature Wilmer Valderrama of "That '70s Show," actress Zoe Saldana ("Guess Who") and designer Eduardo Xol of ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition."

Rodriguez tells the magazine she's inspired by the peacefulness of Hawaii, where "Lost" is filmed.

"I always ask the universe for things if I feel I need to learn a lesson," she says. "The same applies when I am `partying' too much or am acting a little crazy. I ask for mental clarity, peace and I always receive it. There is so much I want to do and this is the moment."

Rodriguez pleaded not guilty last month in a Dec. 1 drunken driving arrest. She was also cited for speeding in Hawaii three times last year.

In 2004, she pleaded no contest in Los Angeles to three traffic violations, including drunken driving. She completed a three-month alcohol program and is serving a three-year probation term.

For all we know that gossip article could easily be a load of crap. And even if the article is true, who the hell cares if she swears? People are using it as an excuse to trash the character she's playing. I've read comments like, "oh Ana Lucia needs to be killed off because MR doesn't even fit in with the cast, so JJ you need to fire her." It's just ridiculous. I really doubt the rest of cast is creeped out by Michelle’s cussing. They're not saints, they're not perfect, despite what some fanatical fans will believe.

So what Michelle swears! I swear. Evi swears, and I know most of you do too. ;)
I think people hate Michelle, because they dont like Ana. And they dont like Ana because she is coming between their favorite ships.

I love Ana and I love Michelle. She is talented and is a GREAT addition to the show. I couldnt imagine the island without Ana now.....

The curiosity was killing me so I have to come here to find out what was happening with MR. So the problem is that she swears, that's it? So, what? I don't believe this at all. Maybe she swears but I doubt it creeps out the cast/crew. That cast/crew is very relaxed. I doubt they are so sensitive.

Um....well, judging by his "I don't tell everyone what I have for dinner everyday" comment combined with the gesture she supposedly made....it sounds like the bleep some bleep....is likely something along the lines of....oh hell, hold on I'll PM you.

I thought I'd let everyone know, tonight on Extra they're visiting the set of Lost. I saw a preview for it last night and it looks like they will be interviewing Michelle. They showed a short clip of her talking and also a shot of her talking and laughing with Terry and Josh.

February 9: Wes Craven talks THE BREED—and MASTERS?

Wes Craven was on the Fox lot last night; bottled water in hand and looking dapper as ever, the director was casually mingling with a large number of horror-hungry genre journalists who had converged on one of the studio’s screening rooms to catch Alexandre Aja’s THE HILLS HAVE EYES remake. And although Fango had already been given a chance to catch the redux in an NC-17 incarnation (see review here), we were there to see if anything had been lost in its transition to an R-rated cut (the good news: There are going to be many happy gorehounds) and to chat with the man who made the original HILLS and its remake possible.

For the redux, Craven put on his producing hat—along with long-time creative partner Marianne Maddalena and Peter Locke—but it’s not the only new project on which he has shared similar duties. During his time directing last year’s RED EYE, Craven was also overseeing the development of First Look’s THE BREED as executive producer. Now in the final stages of postproduction after lensing in South Africa, BREED stars Michelle (LOST) Rodriguez, Taryn (HUSTLE & FLOW) Manning, Oliver Hudson and Eric Lively as a group of 20somethings stuck on an island where a pack of dogs have suffered genetic testing. “The government did all of these things to the dogs—so the concept is very simple, but the end result is very effective,” Craven tells Fango. “There are a lot of terrific moments with the [canine cast]—they got, like, 15 dogs—and there are some scenes that are pretty intense.”

Making his directorial debut on THE BREED, but certainly no stranger to a film production, is Nick Mastandrea, who has served as Craven’s assistant director since THE PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS; he later tacked “associate producer” to his résumé with SCREAM. The years working by Craven‘s side, as well as George Romero’s on several projects, appear to have paid off for Mastandrea. “I was really impressed when I saw [Nick’s work],” says Craven. “I mean, I’ve known him for a long time, and he just did a fantastic job with this.” It may be some time before the fans see the film, however, as the master of the macabre confirms that First Look is currently seeking a distribution partner to take THE BREED wide.

And speaking of “masters,” is there any chance we’ll see Craven’s involvement in the second season of Showtime’s MASTERS OF HORROR? “You see Mick [Garris] here, don’t you?” Craven asks with a smile, and sure enough, the MASTERS creator is also spied at the Fox screening. “I’m currently going through a few scripts for the series right now.” —Ryan Rotten

Thanks.

There was a screening of The Breed in Winnipeg last Tuesday, anyone that finds any earlier comments or reviews from that will have my utter love and adoration, for a little while anyway. ;)

the court thing in january was suppposed to be the prosecutors in LA deciding if Michelle had violated her probation.

The trial in HI is March 30 and then after the outcome of that, we will see what the outcome of the possible probation violation.

Keep your fingers crossed!

Is this the only Michelle Rodriguez thread?

I wonder why she doesn't have her own section like Matt, Josh, Evie, Dom, etc...

Rostron2
02-22-2006, 06:36 PM
She might as well play her tough chick typcasting while her popularity lasts. She's basically herself. That's OK, but gets tedious. Not my favorite, but that's just me.

I know people are entitled to their opinion, but I am not going to go into the Evangeline thread and say she's a mediocre actress who just got lucky so she might as well look just look pretty for the camera and ride her success while she can, because that would be tacky. But that's just me. And I like Evie.

Cannot wait to see this....man I wish it wasn't so far away....Wednesday after next....ack! Can't wait! Can't wait! Can't wait! Can't wait! This is a rarity for Michelle....not sure why.

Can't wait to see if they pose DUI questions or something lol. Jay tends to "go there" with people....but she can handle it, so who cares....I just want to see her talking about Lost and such! That'll be great, and hell maybe she'll even address the "rumors" hersefl!

Best Supporting Actress Nominees:

Catherine Bell
The Triangle (The Sci Fi Channel)

Claudia Black
Stargate SG-1 (The Sci Fi Channel)

Erica Durance
Smallville (The WB Network)

Allison Mack
Smallville (The WB Network)

Michelle Rodriguez
Lost (ABC)

Katee Sackhoff
Battlestar Galactica (The Sci Fi Channel)

I know that most people are rooting full on for this Katee Sakhoff chick. I've never seen BG, so I can't comment. Allison Mack was fantastic two weeks ago in Smallville but certainly not better than MR in "Collision" (2x08). The rest of them....um....no. :D

Go Michelle! ;)

I'm a little nervous about MR on Leno. I think MR is one of those people that doesn't have an inner monologue so she says what's on her mind. I'm scared about what she's going to say.

Leigh
02-26-2006, 03:27 PM
LMAO. I was thinking the same thing, but that's what I love about her....she says what is on her mind at the exact moment, she doesn't hesitate or rethink or even feel bad after she does.

Case in point:

Michelle walks out onstage and sits down in between Jimmy Kimmel and Simon Cowel. The crowd cheers, the noise dies down. Jimmy looks at her and his first question is:

JK: "Where are you from?"

*pause*

MR: "My mother's vagina."

The world falls out of their chair from shock. The crowd realizes what she says and laughs and cheers and such....it's a hit, yet a shame at the same time LMAO. Near same thing on Leno four years ago when she made mention of dressin up girly for him, though her armpits were a little unshaven or something....dear lord *shakes head*....

I can't wait to see what she says, that's part of what makes her so cool...rules, schmules....this chick has her own way about her and it's unapologetic and that is awesome, even though you sometimes might cringe lol. :D When someone else does/acts that way it's horrid, but for some reason when it's Michelle she pulls it off and you laugh and love her even more....she's weird like that.

Yariene
02-26-2006, 03:29 PM
Is it inner monologue or inner dialogue?

Isn't her mother really religious?

Leigh
02-26-2006, 03:30 PM
Dialogue.

I think lol....now you have me doubting what I would otherwisde know to be true. :D

Im really looking forward to that interview on Leno! Its about time she was on some talk shows. She has been waaaayy too overlooked since she joined LOST. She is what makes the show these days!
