Apparently there were six explosions, one on a double decker bus and the rest on the Undergroud nextwork. Two casualties have been reported so far. bbc.co.uk (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/4659093.stm) is a pretty good resource right now.

I wonder what Blair's going to have to say.

They are saying that it could possibly be a terrorist bomber that planned the whole thing. At the moment they have no real answers, but they say there are still people trapped underground..

Omg. Omg. Omg. My girlfriend, Shenay (Ian's Grace), lives in London and does go on the buses and occasionally the Underground. I sure hope she is okay. And I can't believe this. Another terrorist attack.

OMG! The subway... in the middle of the day... I really hope people are okay. Was it an accident... or do they think it was some kind of terrorist attack? Anyone know...? Those of you who live in London... please check in and let us know you're alright!

ETA. Oops, I was late in posting... thanks for the info, guys! I don't know what to say really... it's just terrible. All I can think is "Oh, God, not again".

tetaelzbieta
07-07-2005, 07:03 AM
People have been saying the Tube explosions might have been a power surge, but the people who saw the buses are convinced it was a bomb. Come on, what are the chances of a power surge happening at the same time the buses explode?

I'm just really hoping this isn't another Madrid.

J-Abrams

i live closer to those areas and i am verry sad about it, its not clear who did it and why they did it... Tony Blair said whoever did it, it's either to stop G-8 meeting or terrorist attacks!!! 90 people injurd and 20 died so far...

It's very possible that this was done to stop the summit. I'm very glad Blair has already said he won't be leaving.

ETA: Actually, I just saw that he is going to be leaving the summit. Interesting.

That's terrible! :(

Don't think this was just an accident, since there were 5 (6?) explosions almost at the same time.
Hope everyone's ok and all injured people get over this shock as soon as possible. :(
And hopefully there'll be no more dead persons!

Now they're saying it's four explosions - 3 on the Tube, one on a bus, and that reports that there were 6+ were just some of them getting reported more than once. So far still only two confirmed deathes, according to CNN.

I also don't see why this would be a problem for the Olympics, or how it's somehow related to that. It's too big a coincidence that the G8 summit just started in Britain, and now this.

I've been up since 6:50 trying to get info... so far 300 are being treated for injuries and at least 2 are dead.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/07/07/AR2005070700221_pf.html

They also don't know how many bombs went off. Metro Police say 4, but Scotland Yard says 6 to 7 bombs... :( This is horrible. I don't know what else to say. :( My Aunt and Uncle are over in England right now. I hope they're okay.

They also said that a terror cell in the Middle-East has claimed responsibility for the attack -- that's the last new info I heard.

I said the same thing in another forum. But I ended up being knocked on the head and some guy (or girl) said "It's called updates" then someone else gave me a news site that was offically the correct one. It is all just news stories, and news stories are sometimes wrong, some of them have to be wrong since they all have different numbers, there isnt really a way to tell which stories are right until the numbers start evening out and being the same everywhere.

I had the same reaction, too. I mean, I'm not happy about ANYBODY died, but 2 is a low number. But now it's going to 40. This is just like September 11, nobody has a clue what's going on, and nobody has a diffinitive number. I remember the news casters had orginally said 46 people had died during Septmber 11

My Grandfather, Step-Grandma and my aunt and uncle (Their younger than me, long story) are in London, and my mom can't get ahold of them, I'm really freaked out right now.

I think they confirmed it was NOT a suicide bomber, but bags left unattended on the train, which contained bombs with NAILS in them, to do the most damage.

They were talking about how Tony Blair had to leave the G8 summit where they were trying to stop poverty and hunger in Africa, to go deal with bombs going off.

Our world is so screwed up

My heart goes out to those in London. *sighs* FierceDesea, I hope your girlfriend will be okay  I'm really angry because all of this was preventable. We had Osama Bin Laden in the Tora Tora mountains in Afghanistan and we let him go!

Today I am a Londoner. Today I stand with you all to grieve for the loss of your countrymen. Today I will pray for those that have survived the blasts. No matter how hard the terrorists try, they will not terrorize an entire nation that has survived so much in its history. You stood tall in the midst of the bombings in World War II, and today you are still standing tall. No man, no bomb, no evil can stop the wonderful spirit of England. Today I am a Londoner.

Here you go:

Statement claiming London attacks
The BBC has located an Islamist website that has published a 200-word statement issued by an organisation saying it carried out the London bombings.

The organisation calls itself the Secret Organisation Group of al-Qaeda of Jihad Organisation in Europe.

"In the name of God, the merciful, the compassionate, may peace be upon the cheerful one and undaunted fighter, Prophet Muhammad, God's peace be upon him.

Nation of Islam and Arab nation: Rejoice for it is time to take revenge against the British Zionist Crusader government in retaliation for the massacres Britain is committing in Iraq and Afghanistan. The heroic mujahideen have carried out a blessed raid in London. Britain is now burning with fear, terror and panic in its northern, southern, eastern, and western quarters.

A group called the "Secret Organization group of al Qaeda Organization in Europe" is taking responsiblity. But no one's ever heard of them before, and the claim hasn't been verified yet. Apparently they're threatening to do the same thing in Denmark and Italy, because they have troops in Iraq, though.

Unfortunately, if this is about the Coalition and not the G8, London was the logical choice. Tony Blair is Bush's puppet. Actually, I shouldn't say "logical," because there is nothing logical or justified or right about such a horrible action.

It's unbelievable to me that people believe innocent civilians must die to get the attention of the world's leaders.

eta: whoops, slackerwink got to it first.

purplepenguin91

ok, but according to other news stations a different group claimed responsibility. Obviously one source is wrong, I don't know which one. But people need to be aware that the news isn't always correct, and that you shouldn't necessarily believe what you hear until it has been confirmed. The other goup may be like a sub organization or whatever of Al Qaeda, I don't know...

That is one life too many for me. One life too many in Iraq. One life too many in London, Madrid, and New York City. We've got to change our strategy on fighting terrorism because the flypaper theory of "we'll fight them over there so we won't have to fight them here" obviously hasn't worked in this case. :(

OMG I'm watching the report on CNN as we speak. This is terrible, though it does make a very, very twisted kind of sense. England has been one of our strongest allies in this war. Ugh. This is just horrific.

Has anyone noticed that the terrorists are attacking all forms of transportation? Planes, busses, subways...it's all things that we use every day or every week. This is just terrible. I remember what it was like after 9-11, and it must be just as terrible for you guys. I hope everyone's friends and family are okay! what do you mean by double-triple-or quadruple posting?

If you were the last one to post on a thread and no one's posted afterward, and you have something else to say, don't post a new message, just edit your original post.

ooh yes whoops :o lol. i guess i meant war against terrorism...it's pretty much the same thing as war on iraq...whatever

No they aren't. The war on terrorism is something global, something that's being done to stop the campaign of fear being waged by these horrible people. The war on Iraq is Bush's attempt to finish the job his daddy started. But let's not get political, because we're all distressed over this tragedy.

CNN still has the dead at (at least) 37 and the wounded at 700. I'm really dreading seeing these numbers go up as they inevitably will.

I live in Madrid, so I certainly know how people in London must feel right now. It sucks big time (duh), best regards to all of them.

Unfortuantely... I'm sad to say that living in Israel has made me psychologically and emotionally immune to these sort of terrorist attacks, and while it is horrible, life goes on.

I hope London recovers soon.

i'm sorry about that for you. :( sorry if someone said this, but what makes this so hard for me to accept is that for london, you guys are going through what america went through with 9/11. I wish there was something i could say to make this all okay, but there isn't. there never will be, and for that, i'm soooooo sorry. :(

I heard it this morning and I was so worried, a friend of mine lives there, but I heard from him, that was a relief.
Hope everyone on these boards are ok.
This really makes me sad, what is this world coming to??

My thoughts are with them there and their families!!

OMG I'm watching the report on CNN as we speak. This is terrible, though it does make a very, very twisted kind of sense. England has been one of our strongest allies in this war.

This is so terrible :worry: I hope that everyone's friends and family are okay!! I'm kinda scared because the Netherlands have been one of America's strongest allies in this war too and it's very likely that Amsterdam will be the next city :(

I truly hope this tragedy isn't the cornerstone for another war against another country.

this whole thing: not just the bombing, thought that too, but the whole war- makes me want to cry! why is it that we slaughter our fellow humans? what is it that makes that nation different from ours? why do people feel the need to take the lives of not only their victoms, but of the family members who suffer through the lost? can someone name any other creature of God who does this to each other? sorry to rant like this, but this is just how i feel :(

Hm.. well, animals do slaughter one another.. I can't think of any murder-suicides, though.

Lions kill or drive off rival males, and if a new lion takes over an older lion's pride, he (or they, if there are multiple males) will kill all of the young that were sired by the fallen male.

:( It's ugly, but it's animal instinct.

I agree, it's an awful thing that happened and I don't condone violence. Violence begets violence. There has to be a better way to settle differences than by killing one another.

Definitely. As Simon Wheeler said on Into the West last week "War and hate only bring more war and hate"(well, except for the Revolutionary War. That spawned a counrty). It's terrible that people think they have to do this kind of thing to their enemies. I believe al Qaida declared a Jihad, holy war, on us Americans, and they're attacking everyone who helps us...

these guys really suck, what the hell do they get out of killing innocent citizens? they are a bunch of f***ing cowboys and need to be eradicated.

what suprises me even more is how these guys slipped under the radar.

And they give a completely wrong idea of Muslims. Muslims are about peace. These guys are telling their people that if they kill themselves while killing Americans - or whoever they happen to be targetting - then they'll find favor with Allah.

Islam is a religion of peace, but the same can be said of Christianity and you can't say that Christianity's past was all bubbles and daisies. They're extremists and they feel that they're doing what God/Allah wants. I'm not condoning it at all, just trying to shed some light on why they feel the way they do.

Western culture is much more secular than that of the Middle East. They feel like their faith and way of life is being stripped away by us, "the infidels", and take it to the extreme.

al-Qa'ida targets other Muslims, too, if they feel that they are being untrue to Islamic values

These nutters are just a bunch of radicals who have no aim in life. Muslims are actually quite nice people, i have some mates who are, and they were sickened. Thing is they didnt care who they attacked. They aim to shake and scare us but this will only unite us

Actually, they have an aim in life, it is just not what most people consider a valid reason for violence. They do it because they believe that it will help them become closer to Allah. I agree with yall about not all Muslims being this way. It is like saying the KKK represents Christianity.

Human beings have an remarkable way to heal again. With people in this world who can do things like this, that sure is the most important thing for our existance.
This is not the first terror deed and it wont be the last. In the seventees it was Westgermany and IRA who stood for the terror in Europe. It didnt lead anywhere. It didnt stopped us from continue to live our lives again. With no fear. Even how horrible each deed was.
Now it is people who gives themselves the right to try and ruin our daily life. They try to win over us by making us afraid.
Again-and I´m so happy for this- they will fail. They always do. At least noone have succeeded yet.

It is like saying the KKK represents Christianity.

That is a really brilliant analogy. I'll definitely be using it when my grandfather gives me his racist spew about the attacks, as he no doubt will.

The loss of life is horrific, but I think an equally awful byproduct of this terrorism is the fact that so much hatred is being produced against Muslims, from people too ignorant to learn something about the religion and its people.

It's a shame that right now people in London (or wherever there might be terrorist attack) can't even take the bus without being worried something might happen, what is even worse is that it certainly wasn't a surprise, it was something that you know it might happen, what you don't know is when.

but actually.... these are extremists...they are not following the "true" religion.

the koran actually forbids suicide, so all of those that have done these attacks (9/11, madrid...) are actually going against their religion, and are being told to do these by higher people

it's a shame

innocent people, working to make their living, should never have to expierience

but we do

Good things from the Quran:

5: The Table Spread 32 "For that cause We decreed for the Children of Israel that whosoever killeth a human being for other than manslaughter or corruption in the earth, it shall be as if he had killed all mankind, and whoso saveth the life of one, it shall be as if he had saved the life of all mankind. Our messengers came unto them of old with clear proofs (of Allah's Sovereignty), but afterwards lo! many of them became prodigals in the earth."
Whoever saves the life of one, it is as if he had saved the life of all.

41: Fusilate 34 "The good deed and the evil deed are not alike. Repel the evil deed with one which is better, then lo! he, between whom and thee there was enmity (will become) as though he was a bosom friend."
Good and evil are not the same. Repel evil with goodness. That way your enemies will become your friends.

109: The Disbelievers
"1 Say: O disbelievers! Let each person be free to believe (or disbelieve) whatever he or she wishes.
2 I worship not that which ye worship;
3 Nor worship ye that which I worship.
4 And I shall not worship that which ye worship.
5 Nor will ye worship that which I worship.
6 Unto you your religion, and unto me my religion."
Let each person be free to believe (or disbelieve) whatever he or she wishes.

But there are also some not so good things:

3: The Family of 'Imran 151 "151 We shall cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve because they ascribe unto Allah partners, for which no warrant hath been revealed. Their habitation is the Fire, and hapless the abode of the wrong-doers."
We shall cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Their habitation is the Fire.

4: Women 74 "74 Let those fight in the way of Allah who sell the life of this world for the other. Whoso fighteth in the way of Allah, be he slain or be he victorious, on him We shall bestow a vast reward."
Allah will bestow a vast reward on those who fight in religious wars. Possibly this (among other similar passages) condones murder-suicide in war?

There seem to be many contradictions in the Koran as well as in the bible, which leads to people interrupting it the way the want to.

Actually, the impression I'm getting (which may be completely incorrect, since I'm not there) is that the Londoners aren't afraid to keep using public transport. I mean, the Brits have grown up with terrorism. They've had the Nazis and the Blitz, the IRA... it's not like it was on 9/11 for Americans.

I found a few quotes from LiveJournal users who live in London and thought they were interesting:

"I'd like to congratulate today's terrorists for achieving nothing but instilling a fierce patriotism back into the British Isles, creating a rather wide-spread rash of Blitz Spirit, and giving me a day off work.

I'm a bit pissed off that you nearly blew up some of my friends, but at the end of the day - you failed. We're still here, we're not scared of you."
"These terrorists are rubbish. They'll be caught next week, having successfully demonstrated that the British react to terrorism with indifference. We grew up with it, you see. What with this being a civilised country, they will not receive the death penalty, but be locked up for the rest of their lives, to be regularly sodomised by other inmates while they slowly realise that their interpretation of their religion is a pile of old hokum. Whoops. Meanwhile, I'll be out in London, partying."

The words of two don't necessarily reflect the ideas of the entire country, but it seems pretty accurate right now.
